I took 3 pairs of my favorite work shoes to Joe Pacific on a Saturday. All 3 needed heel replacement; 2 needed insole replacement. The man at the front was friendly and agreed that I could pick them up the following Saturday. I paid $105 for all three. He gave me a pick up tag. I went to pick up the following Saturday. The same man greeted me and asked me to describe the pairs and what I wanted done. The pick up tag was no help. He couldn't find my shoes, so he asked me to come in the back to look for them. There was another man in the back as well, working on shoes. There were shoes strewn on shelves in different areas and there didn't seem to be a systematic way they were organized. We found one of my pairs tossed on a shelf. The other two looked to be tossed in a box with other black shoes needing work. None were started on. I wasn't angry; just a bit surprised at the disorganization and the way shoes appeared tossed around in the back. Both men said the 3 pairs would likely be done by Thursday. I said I would come back the following Saturday. I went back the following Saturday and the same thing happened; he asked me to describe the shoes, couldn't find them, asked me to go in the back to look. The other man was also in the back working again. My 3 shoes were in different areas. One was on what he called the "finished" shelf but wasn't finished because the heels weren't replaced; one had the insole done and heels replaced but heels needed to be grinded down to the proper shape (which he did in a few minutes and gave to me finished); the last one wasn't started yet. Again, I wasn't angry because these 2 older men were very nice. The man who was working in back asked if I wanted to come back or wait 15 minutes for the one that was half done and needed heels. I said I'd come back. It was 11:45. The sign on the door says they close at 1:00. The man from the counter said they close at 2:00 but 1:30 would be a good time to come back. I said ok. I came back at 1:30 and the shop was dark; the door was locked. I called and there was no voicemail. I was annoyed. I called on the third Saturday (3 weeks since I dropped off and paid). The man who answered was the man in back. He asked what shoes did I have; he couldn't find the shoes at first and said I'd have to come down. I said I was the lady who came the last 2 Saturdays. He found them and I picked them up. The heel replacement was fine. However, I expected that the insoles would have been replaced, not the new ones glued over the old worn out ones. Is that normal? And they weren't glued on well; there was space and I could gently peel the layers back. I used Shoe Goo and glued them myself. I won't be back to Joe Pacific even if those guys were nice. read more

Like other Yelpers, I have been a customer at Joe Pacific for many years but will not be returning again. The service has gradually gone downhill over the past few years; both customer service and shoe repair quality. My last pair of shoes was "lost" somewhere in the shop for 3 weeks, requiring me to return each week to see if the shoes were found yet. And the last pair of shoes I brought in for a $30 sole repair were returned with glue all over the uppers, making the shoes unsightly. It's sad because Joe Pacific was the best shoe shop in town. read more

Service and professionalism has definitely declined. I went there years ago and had no problem but during my recent visit, my friend and I brought multiple sandals for repair. At pick up, they couldn't locate all our sandals because they don't have a system to keep track and organize. Not only did I have to point out areas they missed gluing, my friend went home to find they missed a pair which hadn't even repaired. Also workmanship not as neat as before. read more

5 stars service! Came here to repair a bag that had a stain which I worsened by trying to fix it myself. I was desperate but my friend said to call this store so I did but with little expectation that the bag could be fixed. Lo and behold, Bruce was able to fix my bag and restore it to near perfection all within an hour. The original stain is no longer visible as they expertly covered it up. This is my 2nd time having my Italian boots resoled here and I must say, I am more impressed this time than my first visit. The two pairs of boots I brought in were severely worn, the soles were in rough shape and the tips actually wore through so bad that you could see inside. The team here did an amazing job restoring both pairs of boots, adding Tuscan Italian leather soles and repairing the tips to not only cover the holes but also blending the leather seamlessly. The work here exceeded my expectations for what I brought them to work with. I was resigned with having to purchase new pairs (each one is $600) but instead Joe Pacific repaired both pairs for $90 each. Getting another 1-2 years out of these boots for that price is... well, priceless to me. read more

CUSTOMER BEWARE I would rate 0 starts if I could. And just for context I HATE leaving bad reviews but this was just too much. I took 2 pairs of shoes recently. One pair to get stretched out a half size larger and one to repair and reinforce a tear that happened on the inside heel area. The transaction stage went no problem. $50 for the job, pick up on the following Saturday. I couldn't make it there on that day so I ended up dropping by on the following Friday almost a week after my scheduled pick up. I called a day later giving more details on what exactly I wanted to be done to the pairs and to beg them to use utmost care when working on them because of their lofty price tag and rarity. I repeated what I wanted to be done to the shoes. I was mainly concerned that one pair would get stretched out too much and would become too large for me to wear. Whoever I talked to assured me they'd be fine. When I came in there was no system in place at all to pick up. I had to describe the shoes to which a man had to look around the store to find, and even at one point told me he couldn't find them. This was because "one of their workers" had thrown them on "finish shelf." And I say thrown because they were literally thrown on that shelf, laying there, not even set neatly down, as one would expect for a finished pair of shoes. He said that they'd be done for sure on Wednesday and had to ask me again what needed to be done to them. I repeated myself again. I called on Wednesday to see if the job was completed to avoid me going down there only to leave empty handed again. Whoever answered the phone had to ask me AGAIN what was supposed to be done to one of the pairs of shoes. This would now be my fourth time repeating myself on what I needed done to the shoes. They said it'd be ready by that afternoon. I couldn't make it down there before they closed so I went to pick it up a day after on Thursday. The pair that I needed to get sized up was ok so I'll give them credit for that. Although they were yet again lazily thrown on the "finish shelf." However my other pair was a disaster. I was assured that they'd patch up the area of concern with a piece of leather and sew it on to prevent it from moving. That they did with the level of craftsmanship of a toddler. The pieces of leather they used look like scraps they found lying around the shop, oblong and sloppily shaped. The stitching they did was poorly done and had loose threads hanging out from the front and back when i was assured they wouldn't be visible. The cobbler then took it on himself to go above and beyond my simple request and tried to glue down the sole protector that the previous owner had put on the shoes. I wouldn't have a problem with this had they not sloppily left glue marks all over the bottom and midsole while doing so. They also took it upon themself to scrape off a piece of adhesive that was put on the back part of the shoe to keep it together. For owners of these particular shoes, that is something intentionally put on there. The cobbler only scraped it off on one side and left it on the other, I question his reasoning with this decision. In the process of removing this he left deep scrapes on the midsole and the heel of the upper. I will not be coming back here again and if you value your shoes then you'd be wise to do the same. read more

You know, we don't seem to appreciate or shoes. We wear them every day and at the end of the day they get tossed in the corner. They deserve to be taken care of. My work boots have been needing repair for a long, long time! I don't know why I waited so long because Joe Pacific was always there. When a job is done by a professional, with decades of experience, you can see a difference. Joe Pacific is that place. The Service was top notch. They were friendly. The repair took about a week. The work was excellent. When I dropped off my boots, I asked what options I had. They brought out three or four different soles to choose from. We discussed the durability and comfort of each option and it made my decision easy. They are located in downtown with meter parking on Bishop Street near Queen Street. read more

Fixed my shoes like new. Had an old pair of wing tips and had new leather soles from Italy installed with new heels.

Super knowledgeable people work here! I took in a pair of used boots I got on Poshmark to see if they could make adjustments so they would fit around my gigantic calves. The cobbler - do they still call them that? - was very patient and explained what they would need to do to get the result I wanted, and then went over the price. Good news? They could absolutely do it, and it would look gorgeous. The bad news? It would cost about $100. In and of itself that was not a terrible price, but we both agreed that it would probably be better in the long run just to get a new pair of boots. I took the boots around to 2 other shops just to get a second opinion. One place said they could do it for a similar price, but seemed less confident in the final result. The second place couldn't do it at all. Like any good shoe repair shop worth its salt, Joe Pacific has a solid selection of shoe and leather product accoutrements. They also do other work on other leather goods like belts and purses. They carry a solid line of Earth shoes, too! Probably the largest variety on island. And some super cute styles! I used to get my shoes repaired at Sears in Ala Moana until they closed, so obviously I'm in the market for a new shoe repair shop. My only complaint is that you have to park around the corner at Harbor Court; there's no parking on site. Other than that this place is bomb! And I will definitely be back! read more

One might think distress would set in when I discovered that all too familiar scraping sound every pair of well-loved heels makes after constant use. I mean, these are my absolute favorite pair of Charles David heels that go with practically every outfit I own and I wasn't about to send them to shoe heaven just yet. They look almost as fabulous as the day I first slipped them on my feet (who knew a 3.5" heel could be so comfortable?), as one would expect from a well-made pair of shoes. So what does a gal do? Why she goes right downstairs to Joe Pacific Shoe Repair, just steps away from where she works! I dropped off the little darlings and was told by the friendly man at the counter that they'd be done in 15 minutes. Whaaat?! I was expecting to leave them there overnight for a cozy little slumber party with all the other wounded footwear and handbags. I walked down the block to grab lunch and by the time I swung back around, my babies were ready to get back in step with me. And it cost me just $15 cash (tax is added when you pay with a credit card) to replace the little heel tips - a small price to pay for many more fashionably comfortable wears. This familiar shop also does handbag repairs and I imagine luggage too with great, friendly service. It's very comforting to know that my shoes and handbags will get a second chance at life now that Joe Pacific Shoe Repair is just footsteps away! Face masks are required for entry. read more

Hidden gem with as-you-wait service for some items! Really appreciated their help and humor with my new leather Coach handbag that had been tragically splashed with acetone and needed to be re-dyed. Looks as good as new now! Parking is a bit tricky as you have to get a lucky street spot at one of the metered spaces around the corner, but once parked it was just a very short stroll to the shop. The rating on this review is no reflection on the friendliness of the staff - the gentleman at the front of the store was a character, warm and friendly and funny. I like the cozy little shop and it's location in downtown was convenient for me. I took three items to be repaired, all of which were in need of new zippers. A boot, a backpack, and a cooler. My cooler was repaired perfectly and continues to work well. Very happy with that. However, the boot I'm less happy with as the workmanship on the zipper replacement just didn't meet expectations. I'm sure it wasn't an easy fix, perhaps that's the reason it didn't look great, but I'm not sure that was the root cause given the poor repair results on the backpack. The pack's new Velcro closure to replace the broken zipper was glued and sewn on, stitches zig zagging randomly across both sides. Inexplicably the placement of the Velcro was done in such a way that it could not possibly operate as the old zipper had. The Velcro could never close the pocket. I pulled out the stitches, scrubbed off the glue, and am just living with the broken zipper. Not well planned or executed. All this was about $90, value which I did not get back in the form of repaired items. I can't speak to other work they do, but for the kind of repair I needed, I'd go elsewhere. A nice spot with nice people and good potential, but the quality of their work left me unsatisfied. read more

When I moved to Hawaii, I had NO idea what effect the weather would have upon not only my psyche, but my dress shoes as well. I travel quite a bit for both business and pleasure, and when traveling for business, I tend to need shoes with soles that aren't flapping around like a slipper. Unfortunately, in my case, the soles of all 3 of my favorite dress shoes decided to go belly up within days of one another (thanks to the Hawaii weather). I browsed around a bit, and since I am a Yelper, I took my co-Yelpers advice and headed down to Joe Pacific. Well . . . the fact that it was SUPER close to my house was an added incentive. Parking sucks as a general rule in downtown, so don't be surprised if you have to hunt for a spot. I went on a Saturday and was able to find parking just around the corner . . . BONUS! Their customer service was some of the best I've experienced in Honolulu. This is sad to say because you would think that an island that prides itself on its "Aloha Spirit" and caters to as many visitors as we do, would mean excellent customer service experiences from our service industry would be the expectation, not the exception. I was in and out of the shop within 15 minutes, with all my questions answered and a pickup slip in had. I informed them that I wouldn't be needing the shoes for a few weeks and for them to take their time and that I didn't need a call back when they were ready, so I can't comment on the efficiency of the repair. It was a fair bit more expensive than I was hoping, but it was still cheaper than replacing 3 Italian made leather shoes . . MUCH cheaper. read more

Just thought I'd mention that at Joe's there is just one 'real' shoe maker. If you don't speak with him and give him your shoes, then you may not be very happy when you pick up your shoes. All of the gents that work there are very nice, but beware and be sure you hand your shoe only to the shoe maker. Picked up my sandals today to see excess glue on the edge and a glob on top of the strap. The shoe maker did his best to clean off the glue and told me that next time I should ask for him and not give my shoes to the other guy that is usually at the front. It is true, because another time, I gave my shoes to the shoe maker and he did a flawless job on a pair of shoes. read more

I had a poorly-designed bag strap that was starting to tear -- he didn't just stitch it back together and call it a day, he took the strap apart and re-did the whole connection to be much more stable, plus he added metal fasteners for extra security. I've had it happen to me a few times, and threw out the shoes after they broke. Shame on me, I probably could have saved them here. I don't work or live in downtown, but Theresa S told me she loves Joe Pacific, so I trekked downtown. When I dropped off the shoes, I parked on Bishop. When I picked them up a week later, I called them and they walked the shoes out to Queen St so I didn't have to park again. Great service. PROFESSIONAL They speak English. They have claim checks. They are organized. They answer the phone. They will look at the shoe and tell you what they think needs to be done. This is more than I can say about a few other shoe repair places in town. {At another shoe place, I left shoes for over a week and when i came back, they couldn't find the shoes and then when they found it, it wasn't even fixed!) COBBLER Ok so you're wondering why I spent $210 to FIX 4 pairs of mens shoes when I could just buy new shoes. Well apparently some Italian mens shoes cost over $200 (!!!!) brand new, so it was more cost effective to just fix these shoes. They did a great job with the simple jobs like glueing the upper to the lower part of the shoe ($20-30)...putting on a new heel ($30ea)...and were awesome with the more difficult cracked rubber soles of the shoes (for $70). These guys made 4 pairs of old shoes look BRAND NEW and extended the life of the shoe by a few more years. The shoes look untouched! Are there cheaper places out there? Yes. I was considering replacing my beloved Birkenstocks since the sole was worn and the uppers looked like they were dragged though Haleakala's Sliding Sands trail for a month. New shoes are around $150-$170. After consulting with Joe Pacific I sent the aged pair of Birkenstock Boston-style clogs to HNL in a small box with return shipping. Gena and Robert were very communicative and helpful to provide great economic service to neighbor island residents. Thanks to Yelp for helping me find this gem when I needed the service. I held off for one bag, but when another bag lost its slider, I searched for broken zippers and found Joe Pacific Shoe Repair shop. The yelp reviews were quite glowing, so I decided to try this place. Years of travel had put my luggage aka backpacks in subpar shape. They were missing the sliding mechanism that makes the zipper zip up. I finally brought my 2 backpacks (one actual backpack and one drawstring bag with a zipper on the front) to Joe Pacific's Shoe Repair on a brisk Saturday morning in June 2019. I assumed that this sort of service would take a day or so, but was surprised that it would take about 10 days to complete. I arrived here around 9:15am and the ambiance was nice and quiet. The service was nice and casual, as I explained to the lady at the counter that I needed this and that done to my bags. I was sticker shocked when I was quoted $40 per bag, but I thought of it as an investment, since I travel a lot and those bags are a necessary thing. I thought it would have been a bit cheaper, but the finished product speaks for itself. They did a wonderful job and the replacement zipper sliders were identical to the originals! That's pretty awesome really!! Can't say enough praises about Joe Pacific Shoe Repair! The overall experience here at Joe Pacific Shoe Repair here in downtown Honolulu was great Even if I waited 10 days for the work to be done, it was worth it. As far as parking options go, since it is downtown, very tough to find parking unless its in a parking garage nearby. If you are like me, many bus routes come through the area, but you'd have to walk a block or two to get here. For the most part though, the service was good and friendly. I was initally skeptical that the lady at the front desk quoted me an exact date when it will be finished and ready for pick up. When that day came, I called around 10am, but it wasn't ready yet. However, the lady called around 4:30pm that day and said it was ready for pick up! That's pretty awesome and coincidence at the same time! I picked up my order the next day and it was cool. After sending out a plea to my Yelp brethren, many advised me to take the shoes over to Joe Pacific. This place is really hard to find. It is located in an alley between Queen and Merchant Streets. If you are trying to enter from Merchant St., look for the Reyn Spooner Outlet store called "Reyn's Rack." The alley should be close. Upon entering Mr. Bob LoPresti greeted me (he's the guy on the new Central Pacific Bank commercials). Quoted me $10 and to give him a week. So, back to work I went. A week later, I stopped by (after giving them a call the day before to make sure it was ready) to pick up the shoe. It was all pau. He did great work. Slight word of warning for people with respiratory issues. When we first opened the door the place was smelling of harsh chemicals like polish and maybe a glue remover (like acetate). I was only in there for less than 5 minutes, but my chest did feel "sanitized" after going in there for that period of time. It was a very very heavy smell that was overpowering, but it wasn't like that when we dropped the shoes off. So, I'm sure it doesn't smell like that all the time. I just wanted to make sure you know this. Anyway, the shoes look like new and the girlfriend is pleased... which makes me pleased.
