Have been to Mi Cocina three times and have always sat at the bar and ordered the lunch menu chicken fajitas. The service is very good and the fajitas and the fixins that come with it are enough to make three tacos at least. You get some tender white meat chicken, guac, pica, rice, beans and potato wedges. My husband and I visited here a couple of days ago. We are traveling with our pet and were pleased to find out that the patio is pet friendly and heated to boot! Mi Cocina is one of the few restaurants originating in Dallas and, at least in my opinion, is the Standard for Tex Mex food. That said, the he restaurant in Rockwall is substandard both in food preparation and service for the restaurant group and makes me want think that the name is being leased. Nicely decorated but really dark and kinda sad atmosphere. Food was ok but I've had better at the other locations, wife got the steak nachos and I got the lunch special #5. Chicken was really dry and the steak on the nachos was chewy. Wife had a Mambo Taxi Drink and she stated that the location in Frisco makes them way better. TL: DR: Luis is an amazing waiter and made our Father's Day really great! My family had such a great experience at Mi Cocina today. And it was ALL about the service. I've always felt the food at Mi Cocina is white people Mexican food. But for that, it's pretty good. But let me tell you about the service today. Holy hell. If waiters got raises or promotions, I'd be trying to talk to this dude's boss. I THINK his name was Luis, and he might have been one of the best waiters I've ever had. I lived in Mexico for quite a while, and the service in Mexico usually puts the service in the US to shame. But this was just outstanding service, better than I've gotten in Michelin Rates Mexican restaurants. First of all, my Spanish sucks. So I always want to practice every chance I get. I told Luis (I really wish I was sure of the name) that I needed practice, he told me that I would have to order for the whole table. And then he pretty much quit speaking English for the whole meal. My siblings speak Spanish so they were teasing me about mine, but he would guide me or correct me in a super friendly, even funny way. He was so much fun. Let me also state that his English was without even a touch of an accent. So it's not like it was easier for him to speak Spanish (it might have been, but probably not really.) He was just being that nice. But even without the Spanish lesson, he was great. My 70 year old mother has lots of dietary restrictions. I relayed them to him and he stood there for a minute discussing with her ways she could change dishes to suit her needs. It worked out, she LOVED her enchiladas and they had nothing on them she couldn't have. She never takes food home, and she took half her meal home so she must have loved it. I lamented that I couldn't have one of the amazing margaritas that everyone else was having because I had a long drive and also didn't want to be drunk at the gym. So you know what he did? He made me one to go. (It's delicious, Oh Em Gee!) Nothing on our table ever got empty. Not our chips. Not our salsa. Not our waters. Not their margaritas. Nothing. The service was absolutely exceptional. He was also kind of a ninja. My tea appeared out of nowhere (like half a second after I asked for it) and refilled magically as well. As you walk inside, the dimmed lighting, and rich wood tones, and comfy booths let you relax. I could not count all the seating, seemed like 80? All that said, this meal was on level with Arboledas, and lately, even they have struggled. The kitchen is to blame, also their managers, and the owners. Just a little bit of true leadership, with the strength to make changes in the kitchen, and this can all be cured. Make a menu for seniors, that they can read in the dim lighting inside Mi Cocina. Many of us are caring for elderly family members. Maybe look at menus in the lobby, which has good lighting, then proceed to the table. read more

Why not start the new years with a yummy meal out. It was our first time out and wasn't sure what to expect based on reviews so figured it was time to try. It was a quiet evening and was quickly sat. Our server, Jake, was so professional and friendly. We ordered the guac and chili con queso (I meant queso Blanco but I am still learning to specify). Personally, I think the quac needed some more flavor and of course I wanted Blanco.... So I was a bit worried. But, from there on out everything was fantastic. He had the handmade marg and I had some kind of drink with grapefruit. Both yummy. But the winner was the bacon wrapped shrimp. Wow. Fantastic. Next time, we are ordering two! He then got the shrimp fajitas, sunset style. Plenty of shrimp and cooked perfectly. Next time he said hed get it normal style but sunset sauce on the side. I got the change... Wowser. That thing was huge and chicken so moist. I ate it for dinner and lunch. We both decided we will be back soon. What a great meal to start the new year. This place is a must visit. I am a regular at this location. I don't go for just one topic I go for the whole experience. The ambiance, food, service, drinks. We sit at the bar typically unless we have the grand kids with us. But anytime we go, the relationship we have built with the staff and management is irreplaceable. I give this place every bit of 5 stars. I'm not saying they don't make mistakes now and then (VERY few and far between) but they will do their absolute best to make sure it is right and that you have a pleasant experience before you leave. Therman is a wonderful manager and is 100% involved in every aspect of the business. I absolutely love ALL my bartenders that serve us. Their attention and service are top notch and professional.
