Bailee was happy to answer and asked me lots of questions too at my initial appointment. (I literally come EVERY TIME with more questions lol) This past time was my 3rd time getting my curly cut. When I visit I get a cut, wash and style. I also like to get a scalp treatment while I am there! I have always had naturally curly hair but have dyed my hair blonde and have done other things to compromise my curls. Bailee has taught me which products work for my hair and the proper upkeep, which can be different from person to person depending on their curl type and texture. At my last visit, Bailee was surprised at how my hair has changed since the last time I saw her. It's grown longer and has gotten thicker. I would note that his assistant will often be the one to dry and style your hair which was fine because she was amazing, but just something to be aware of if you think you are only getting serviced by the owner. The lady that answered the phone while I'm asking the questions, puts me on hold to answer another line ringing and starts answering their questions while leaving me on hold listening to her speaking to the person that called AFTER me. Went into Angels yesterday after getting called for Jury Duty at the Union County Courthouse; yuck! Luckily I didn't get picked! Had the rest of the day off from work so I decided to get a long overdue trim. I used to go to Max's right across the block from the courthouse but that has since closed down. I turned to Yelp looking for a Dominican hair salon in the area with similar attributes as the former salon. I walked in (no appointments needed!) and was instantly treated superbly by the front desk staff. Because it was my first time he asked to see my hair and asked which services I was seeking. I made an appointment with Joe for my 1st curly haircut ever. I was so excited & looked forward to this day for months, but to my surprise it was not worth the wait or the drive. If you are booking an appointment at this salon with Joe be aware you are NOT only getting seen by him. All he did was cut my hair & once he finished he had someone wash my hair (which is fine that's how it goes at most salons). But what confused me the most was the same person who washed my hair also styled my hair and diffused it. If I made an appointment to see a certain hairstylist who's speciality is curls should I have not gotten styled/diffused by him as well? I noticed he gave attention to his other clients i.e styling & diffusing their hair but I did not receive the same attention towards my hair. Nonetheless once the man Jose finished my hair it was HORRIBLE. I had absolutely NO curl definition what so ever. He used deva curl ultra defining gel on my hair and it's a product I've used for 3 years now and never does it leave my hair the way it came out. Joe then came over and said he did not like how it looks & asked if they could rewash my hair. He then had this lady Jamie cowash my hair & style it again, this time with products I've never even heard of (Afros & rizos). Again Jamie had diffused my hair and it honestly didn't look much different than the last time. Joe then proceeded to cut w.e strands that needed cutting and my appointment was finish. I find it a little absurd I made an appointment with someone to only get 15 mins in his chair for a dry cut. I'm not even sure if his "assisants" are even devacurl certified. I walked out the salon as if I was on my 4th day hair, it was a big frizz ball. Although I have no complainants on my actual haircut I am HIGHLY disappointed with the service I received at this salon, I was really expecting SO MUCH MORE. I ended up rewashing & styling my hair a few days later the EXACT way Jose did. (Used only devacurl gel and diffused right after) my results were way different than his. I went to this place in high school and wasn't too pleased with their customer service. However, I wanted a Devacut yesterday and my friend told me to give it a go again, so against my better judgement I did. I went in and was told to sit for a good without 25 minutes without being asked what I wanted. When I was finally asked what I wanted after half an hour, the person that is certified was not there and I was told to wait for another hair dresser who isn't DevaCut certified and asked me how to do the cut or to call Utopia in Westfield.. and that was another DISASTER because their receptionist was no help over the phone or in person. Literally just came out of the salon about an hour ago and it was the worst salon I've been to thus far. As someone commented before: there's far too many salons between Newark, Elizabeth, and Irvington to put up with the way I was treated here. First off, I was recommend by my sister to go to this salon. I've heard great things from her so I was looking forward and excited about trying this place out. Earlier today, I took out a weave I've had placed in for a little less than 2 months. It's my first time taking a weave out and transitioning to my normal hair so I didn't know I was suppose to condition and detangle my hair upon arrival. Also I have work soon so I really couldn't have been able to go home and do it myself in time. When I sat at the washing station, I'm introduced to this male washer. Don't remember his name but he has a side shaved head an an eyebrow piercing if that helps point him out. I'm Colombian but I'm assuming he didn't know I understood Spanish because I heard him complaining to the washer next to us that I should be charged more with how filthy my hair is and he also added that whatever the weave salon put in my hair, made my hair as hard as the earth. So rude. I guess he suspected something was wrong with me because he asked me why I wasn't talking so much and I told him I understood exactly what he said about me and he began defending himself explaining that all he said was that my hair was tangled and that was all. My parents are born and raised in Colombia so regardless of me being born in America, it's not that hard to grasp what the fuck "tan sucia" means. Anyways my experience is already being made worse because as I'm texting my sister what's going on, she explains to me how they charge her $20 and I have been charged $25 for the same wash and blow roots she always gets. I understand I'd be paying more than $20 because I got a hair cut and an oil treatment but it should still be $5 less. So fast forward to after I get my hair styled and blow dried, I go up to pay and the woman at the desk tells me how I was suppose to be charged more because of how long it took for them to detangle my hair but how she wasn't going to apply that fee to my total. I noticed after leaving that place, they ripped out so much hair that it feels paper thin when I touch my scalp. I know the damage could've been a mixture of having a weave in for a while but I also felt like the amount of hair that was being ripped out was absurd. First off, I didn't have time to do it myself like I explained earlier, and secondly, I didn't know it would be that hard to detangle given how this is my first time getting my first weave taken out. Also it's a hair salon. Why am I suppose to pay more because you're whining about how difficult my hair is? Don't work at a salon then. When it was time to pay, I explained to her that I'm being charged $5 more and added how my sister comes there every week and we have the same hair length so why is it just me being charged $5 more? She then told me that prices went up, which I honestly think was a weak excuse. And I asked for her to search my sister up in the system and it shows she pays $20 but I'm being charged $5 more. And her response? "Oh I don't know about that. I don't know why that is." WHAT THE HELL DO YOU MEAN YOU DONT KNOW?! You clearly see that there's an error and I'm being wrongfully charged an extra $5. She didn't deduct it so I had to pay the extra $5. Long story short, this is my first and, I feel like it's also my last time going to this salon. The washer was rude and disrespectful. If he would've just apologized, I would have forgave him and actually tipped him. I just tipped whoever styled and cut my hair. She seemed nice and friendly. The woman at the front desk isn't helpful whatsoever and overcharged me and didn't give me a explanation as to why I was charged more. Unless they raised prices yesterday, then her excuse is pure bullshit because like I said, my sister goes there every week, we have the same hair type and length, and never pays more than $20 for a wash, roller set, and blow roots. UPDATE: 8/13/2016 My sister went there yesterday after I left to explain to them how my visit went. The washer claimed to have never said what he had said about my hair and the receptionist told my sister that prices did go up. The thing is, she still fucking charged her $20 so I guess the price increase only applies to me. According to what the receptionist told my sister though is that I was charged extra because of the "natural" state of my hair.... Excuse me? First off, it doesn't matter if I'm Hispanic, black, Asian, European, etc. A majority of people who go to salons go in with their natural hair! I was charged $5 more because of how difficult my natural hair was to work with compared to someone else who's natural hair is more manageable? Fuck that. On Friday 11-22-19 I decided to my curly cut and can I just say what an amazing experience. Joe took his time to cut and was speaking to me about how to care for my hair at home. I've tried to like Angels over the years but now as I've finally decided not to go back. Here is my review. My stylist was always very nice but does not speak English, so oftentimes was hard to communicate. If your clientle is mostly English speaking and your salon is always crowded, then your stylist should be able to communicate with there customers. Especially if you are specializing in hair care like you suggest. I don't want to be negative, the salon is nice and clean and for the most part everyone is nice, but in terms of customer service they can do better. They have one person in particular whom should not work in the reception area. She overcharges and is rude. There are to many other domincan salons between Elizabeth, Newark, and Irvington to have to deal with overcharing and rudeness. read more

I've been coming here forever, they never disappoint. They can get very crowded you just have to learn the best times to come in order to get around that. They have Sunday hours which is great for me, so its usually not very crowded. I guess cause everyone else is in church. My stylist Madi is the best so there is typically a longer wait for her. As most dominican girls I have been going to hair salons weekly most of my life and I know a great salon when I see one. This is the best place and I am a regular for the last 2 years. First the organization is like no other with the help of the number ticket system and managers on the floor and register to keep things moving smoothly, providing nothing but the best customer service. This is a big deal for me as I took me half a day in NY dominican salons to get a wash and set but here average is 2hrs. Lastly and most important they have great products and they just don't want to sell on it but the geniunly recommend products that really make your hair heathly not just look good for one day. My hair was completly transformed with their help and 2 products I cannot live without, davinas and olaplex (this one will change ur life). For those that have an issue with the non-english speaking stylist (which is NOT) the majority, you could have asked one of the managers to help, they do it all day and always offer or change stylist, too many great stylist in one place that you couldn't find one!!! read more

I am a licensed Cosmetologist of over 25+ years and I have frequently gone to Angel's Beauty Salon. I stopped going because I noticed how things were being done incorrectly to clients hair. All I ever got was a basic shampoo and roller set...No relaxers, trims, cuts or color. And at that time I had a relaxer. Since then over 10yrs later, I decided to go back just to get a quick shampoo and set. Well, before I went there I called and asked if a certain stylist was there and if she had a wait. I was told No....that was a LIE!!... Soooo, I proceeded to get my hair shampooed with my own products and was told to wait. As time went on I see that now, the stylist is doing a relaxer on another client. So I go to the receptionist and ask how much for just my shampoo, she told me $20....I was astonished because my ticket for my services totalled $35. So I asked her again, $20 for just a shampoo?..I would never, and have never charged any of my clients $20 for just a shampoo...That is ROBBERY, to say the least. I paid my bill, then go ask the owner Joe how much for a shampoo and he said the same thing. I will NEVER EVER EVER patronize this establishment AGAIN. As a paying Customer, establishments need to be MINDFUL of OVER charging. I've been patronizing this salon for some time now but my most recent visit will be my last. After having my hair washed and conditioned, I was led over to my stylist's chair to have my hair roller set. The stylist was busy trying to take care of multiple clients. She instructed the young lady who usually works at the washing station to roll my hair. I was put off by how this young woman would give me commands in a brusque manner. She seemed annoyed at having to deal with me. She commented to me about how tangled my hair was and proceeded to have a conversation with the woman at the washing station about it that ended with "but damn!". I don't know how she wanted me to respond to this. I was very uncomfortable. I feel it's the stylists job to take care of your hair without trying to shame you. I was also unhappy with the way my hair was being roughly combed out with a small rat tail comb. The salon is clean and located in a convenient area but I can't see myself going back after my last experience. read more

The reason i am rating this salon as a one star is because the staff doesnt have proper training when doing relaxers. I went in the salon and trusted a professional to relax my hair which i only relax twice a year. The stylist didnt do a strand test nor did she base my scalp, worst of all she started combing my hair. Any trained stylist should know that you dont comb hair or brush hair before applying a relaxer because it will irritate the scalp and cause more burning. I had to explain this to her. I proceeded over to the sinks to have the relaxer washed out of my hair the lady who went to wash the relaxer out left it in my hair too long causing scalp irritation and major chemical burns to my scalp. My scalp currently has two major chemical burns on it and i am praying my hair doesnt permenantly fall out in those areas. When the lady was washing my hair she was speaking to me in spanish i can say "i dont understand spanish i speak english in spanish" i told her this in spanish and yet she continued to try and talk to me in spanish i didnt understand her and she wasnt getting an interpreter. She proceeded to put a leave in conditioner in my hair even though i mever requested one. The leave in conditioner is a 10$ upcharge. I had to explain this to someone because she had me sitting i the chair for an additional 40 mins i still had burning to my scalp so it was obvious she didnt wash out my perm all the way. I then had to get up and tell the receptionist what had happend. My stylist came over and started speaking to the other lady in spanish and washing my hair. The sylist proceeded to take me to the chair blow dry my hair and straighten it she never told me about the burns on my scalp. To me i left thinking everything was fine till i went home and noticed the two scabs of dead burnt skin stuck to my head in two melted clumps. I am very disapointed and although i do not know much about applying a perm i will be doing research and applying my own perm from now on they have lost a loyal customer. The reason i chose that stylist in the first place was because someone told me she was the best. She is the tall stylist with the curly blonde hair. I am highly dissapointed and will be asking for a full refund. read more
