I used Joes Automotive a couple weeks ago for the first time. Not only was he way cheaper than a couple other estimates I had gotten, he was a real nice guy and he's honest. He did everything the way he said he would. And when I went to pick my vehicle up, he was vacuuming the inside, which I appreciated alot since it was dirty. He seems like a real knowledgeable guy too, which is what you want in a mechanic. I'm taking my car in next week for round 2. I highly recommend Joes Auto Repair! I spoke with Joe (?) a couple times this week and explained my issue. He was able to get my car in very fast. I had told him that my engine light was on and the code called for a new oil pump, which is pretty pricey and labor intensive. Sight unseen, he was able to tell me what he thought the problem might be and he was right. His knowledge and professionalism saved me thousands of dollars. I was recommended to Joe's Auto by a friend and I have been there since. I had him do some work on my car and discovered he was very affordable and very informative about everything that was wrong and what it needed how much and he always gives options what it has to have and what would be really good for it but might cost more, it was always up to the customer. He explained to me if I could afford to do what was best but might cost a little more now would save me money later. He is always right. Jim has always been very reasonable and does great work. Took my truck there for a water pump gasket leak. Talked to the mechanic over the phone to set up appointment for drop off. I was put off by his attitude. When I dropped my Ford pickup off, I told my wife I think I'm making a mistake. But I didn't have time to do the repairs myself. I needed it done within 2 weeks for a camping trip. I told him the problems and purchased most the parts. He wasn't interested in anything I had to say. I get he has to do his own diagnostics. But at least hear me out. I wouldn't hear back from him for updates. I called every day asking the progress, only because he'd tell me he'd call me in the morning but never did. Days turned into weeks. He constantly had some long story as to why he couldn't get to it or his tools or equipment wasn't working, etc. Finally I think he knew I was getting upset. He tells me some one broke into his yard and stole my catalytic converter. Supposedly cut the fence, stole mine and a few others catalytic converters. I still wasn't getting what I felt was a straight answer. I think it really happened earlier and he wasn't telling me. Certain parts of his story didn't add up. Finally, I drove down there to talk with him in person since he wouldn't call me. He didn't charge labor to install the new cat but I paid for the part. It was a cheaper and lower quality cat converter than the cat I had on there since mine had been stolen from my driveway before. I called 4 other local shops and they all said in that situation they'd cover the loss completely. Not Jim. Supposedly this had happened in the past to him too. Why not fix the issue.? Security Lights , security cameras, a dog, etc. He fixed my original problem, the water pump, what should have been appox $500 job done within a couple days turned into over 3 weeks and $1,400+! Not only that, soon as I got home my truck was leaking radiator coolant from one of the new hoses he installed! So off to the parts house I went. Never again will he have my business. I was on my way to work a few weeks ago and noticed my low tire pressure light was on. I was going to go over to Costco to fill up my tires with nigtrogen. As I headed over there, I drove by Joe's Auto Repair. Jim has been servicing my cars for over 30 years and is an excellent mechanic. He happened to be at the shop already so I stopped in and asked if he could fill up my tires. He took time out to get his air compressor and check all my tires!! Joe fixed my AC and was able to figure out what was wrong with it and saved my family $1000. He was very kind and willing to work with us. We will be going to be going to him for all of our car repairs. By the way the shop does not look like much when you walk up to it. But once you start working with him it no longer matters. If I could give Jim of Joes Auto repair more than 5 stars I would. I called him 1.5 hours before he closed with an emergency, the serpentine belt melted off my Audi making it impossible to drive. He hunted down the belt, and it turned out it needed a new pulley too, managed to get that also, he fixed my car at an extremely low price and had me back on the road within less than 2 hours. He was the nicest, most honest mechanic I've dealt with. I am pregnant and on top of that know nothing about cars and he took extremely good care of me. I will never go to another mechanic again and I suggest you don't either. read more

I heard good things about this repair shop. My girlfriend had an issue with her car wipers not working. I told her to try Joe's. He came out and when she explained the problem he fixed the issue right on the spot and didn't charge her a dime! A couple months later I was considering buying a used SUV. I called and left a message. He called me back and spent 20 minutes discussing the pros and cons of purchasing the vehicle and what might be causing the oil leak I had observed, as well as what the best and worst case scenario's might be if I purchased the vehicle. If I could have the head mechanic's, Jim, face printed on a t-shirt and have it not be creepy I would!!! I found him by Googling something like "best mechanic Stockton, ca" or something and just got lucky because he was on "Stockton st" and I must say - he is an absolute angel!!! He takes the time to explain what's going on, he gives you worst case scenarios sometimes over the phone just to warn you in case it does turn out to be bad BUT, he wont ever charge you for something that isn't needed or over charge...did I mention I love him!!?? Nobody is perfect though, the ONE flaw I'd say is that he does not always give the car back when he says he will but who can be mad at him for that??? NOT ME! lol...I don't blame the man though, his lot is JAM packed at all times (no wonder, he's marvelous!). You can breath a sigh of relief with this man :) I thank God for him really! read more

Jim is a good guy and does pretty good work. The thing is getting the work done, I was quoted 3 days for an engine swap and it took one week short of 4 months! I also wrote down sensor problems and even showed him he was going to have to trace wires back as the casings were dry rotted. After almost 4 months he totally forgot what I had written down and showed him myself and never tried the words while the engine was out where it would have been the easiest. When I finally got my truck back ot still had the same code, with a different engine. Also, the paper I wrote the information on was still attached to the bill. All in all, I could have put a new motor in the truck for about $500 more than whet everything cost and had my truck back in a week without the check engine light coming on still. So if you have all the time in the world to be without a vehicle and more time to have the codes that fixed by a different mechanic, take it to Joe's! read more

Jim who runs the shop is a good guy. He gives fair prices on his work and he does quality labor. He shoots it to you straight and a lot of times if he can't fix it he will take it someone else who can for you. My dad has exclusively gone to Jim for the last 4 years and we remain loyal to his service and quality labor. He does take a long time to fix cars so if you're looking for speed this is not your place. Would recommend calling ahead to see him. read more

Took my truck in to check out my brakes on 3/6/17. My truck was taken in as soon as he was done with customer before me. Shop is a little crowded,lots of cars, but he was done faster than I thought he would be. I did wait for my truck but if you are not comfortable with dust, unkempt areas,etc. don't wait, have someone pick you up lol. Other than that Jim was very informative and patient , definitely knows his stuff ! My husband will be taking in his car Thursday for his brakes to be checked out...will see what he thinks about shop. By the way Jim took my truck in even though I was there on the wrong day. Jim is someone I can honestly say is an honest mechanic. Very thorough in all his work. His Rates are comparable to those in the area, but he won't try and sell you additional things you don't need. Fixes what you ask to be repaired and will let you know if he notices anything else that might need attention. Wish there were more mechanics like him around. Sometimes it's a little hard to get an appointment because he's usually booked pretty solid - but waiting is by far better than taking it to someone else who won't fix it correctly. Jim (who bought the shop from Joe) is one of the best auto mechanics I've ever met -- and I speak as a former auto mechanic. In fact, after 3 years I finally admitted to myself that he's better than I was. He's also completely honest, and is polite to *all* customers, including women (there's no "macho" from Jim, he thinks women have brains too -- see "Sharon J."s review). I know from owning an auto shop that some customers almost seem to want to "hurt themselves" by taking their cars to a glitzy repair shop or an (always!) high-priced dealer. Please don't; take your car to Jim, pay less, get better quality, and if you ever open the hood of your car, be amazed that he checked and topped off all of your engine and transmission fluids without even mentioning it. Jim's only flaw is that occasionally he'll ask for an extra day to complete the work. *Give it to him*; he wants that extra day to get it right, and he does. (At dealers I was always pressured to get the jobs done by 5pm, and quality suffered. Jim doesn't do that; he'll get it out by 5pm if you need the car badly, but if he'd like it for another day, I recommend that you let him do it his way.) read more
