This shop is the best in town! My mom's car broke down and was stalling multiple times. She doesn't know much about cars and had to take it into the shop. This review is long overdue. So my long-time trustworthy mechanic in the Bay Area informed me of his plan to retire in the immediate future. I trust him so much when it comes to my car that I travel all the way there even for my smog check. Anyway, he suggested I start looking for someone I'll feel comfortable with, preferably someone local, so I don't have to drive far. After going through Yelp's reviews (on local mechanics), I decided to visit Rick's Auto Repair. By the way, one other reason I chose the latter is because, even with his shop's already excellent reviews, the "unposted" ones are also as good... check them out. So I decided to visit his shop and kinda interviewed the owner. His name is Tony (he bought his shop from Rick, the original owner, and decided to leave the name of the business as is). Since then "uncle" Tony ;-() lol has done a number of work on my baby (a 2001 Camaro Z28), which we've owned for twenty-one (21) years now. I had a new radiator, water pump, hoses installed, fuel filter/oil change, greased my anti-sway bars, transmission service etc. I will be upgrading my brakes soon with the EBC brake system and you guessed it, uncle Tony is going to do it. Tony and his staff are truly easy-going people, easy to talk with, a good attitude is imperative. Another indicator of a good mechanic is when you ask them to check or replace something and they check it and inform you that you don't need it or you still have a lot of miles left for whatever it is. I told him I was planning on upgrading my suspension system to lower my car. His response, "Why? Your car has a nice stance and rides nicely, why waste your money?"... honesty is the best policy. Anyway, the aforementioned is just my opinion, you form your own. But if you're having something done on your vehicle, whether major or minor work, but unsure of what to do and need a second opinion, you might want to try and consult with Tony at Rick's Auto Repair. I paid $700 to a mobile mechanic named Gino (drives a station wagon with many tools) whom had worked on my truck a few times before. My truck was leaking oil so Gino said I needed to replace my rear main gasket seal. I paid him $700 to replace it, but notice a few days later it was still leaking oil. I decided to bring it to Ricks for a second opinion. They checked it fast and the diagnostic price was inexpensive. He said that my rear main seal was leaking and there was no worked done- Ricks does not offer this service of replacing the rear main seal- but referred me to a reputable mechanic . I confronted Gino whom called Ricks liars and wanted me and him to go an confront them. Gino disappeared and stopped answering his phone. I appreciate Ricks honesty and are very reputable mechanics. read more

Issue: Mazda CX-7 2009 120k - Engine code: P0301 Cyl 1 Misfire. I have fixed this issue before by replacing the ignition coils and spark plugs, however this year i was not able to solve this problem. Engine runs fine though. So after seeing the yelp reviews, i decided to stop by Rick's Auto Repair and consult my issue with them. I spoke with Tony (the owner) who despite being busy back in the shop, took his time to listen to my problem and suggested to try first a fuel additive called Chevron Techron that cleans the fuel system and fuel injectors. I did follow his recommendation, and $ 12 later, the Engine warning light has not come back on. Awesome. Next time when i need a regular maintenance service, i wont hesitate to bring my car to Tony. Rick's did a good job. Great diagnosis. Fixed my power steering quickly. Found problems with my brakes and checked in with me. This place will be a regular spot for me. I've had to pay $100 to get diagnosed at Salida. Here I paid $40 and got a better diagnosis. Salida told me nothing was wrong that they could find... And I walked out of that shop with car troubles that worsened over time. I don't even think they looked at my car. My brakes were bad. My power steering was squealing and my AC was tapping... But nothing was wrong for my $100 diagnosis.. this spot actually does their job. Found my new mechanic! read more

I want to commend this shop for it honestly. My daughter brought in her car for a repair that the dealership quoted a very high amount. They reviewed the work order for what work was needed at the dealer service department for the car. They seen that their shop was not equip to handle the required work. They redirected us to other Auto Shops that could do the work. I had an oil leak that was from a leaky valve cover gasket and had no idea of what shop to take it to. I've gone to a couple of shops in town before for other issues but was not happy with their service. I started off by googling local shops in town and came upon Rick's Auto Repair. I was redirected to Yelp and noticed the 5 stars given with nothing but great reviews. I read through a few of those and was convinced that I was gonna give them my business and it also didn't hurt that they were only a couple of mins away. I called right before closing and spoke with Tony about my car issues. Tony was very pleasant to speak with and broke down the costs of the quote he gave. He asked for me to bring my car in the next day. I arrived early the following morning and was greeted by a friendly gentleman by the name of Bruce. I informed Bruce of the conversation I had the prior day with Tony. He located the quote on the computer and said he would give me a call once the repair was complete. Bruce called a few hours later and now I have a car that no longer leaks oil. It's so difficult to find a decent and honest shop nowadays. Thanks to yelp for the great reviews and the recommendation. Normally I don't leave reviews on Yelp but for Rick's I am impressed. Car was overheating on Sat we called Rick's and spoke with Bruce. He gave us some excellent advice to prevent any further damage. Come Monday morning dropped the car off and was given the breakdown of costs. During the day I was informed throughout the whole process by Bruce. Cracked radiator, blown gasket and thermostat. Took our '14 Accord to Rick's Auto for a 100k service. Got an estimate from the dealer, which is where we usually get all our services done, but 100k is pretty expensive. Rick's came highly recommended from friends and they didn't disappoint. Not only did they beat the dealer price, but they actually beat their own estimate by a couple hundred dollars. There were a couple of things they said didn't need replacing, so it was removed from the bill. Very nice, very professional, and very trustworthy guys.
