Was here to witness a customer come up and ask a bartender if the were the only one working, he said no and pointed to the two others and then walked into the back room to use his phone. Light rail has become and integral part of my life, which means I now look for bathrooms and stop offs close to stations. I had been to this place a few times previously, but now it seems to be more of a regular stop. It's great if you are going to an event at a stadium or needing to do something in Chinatown, do beware it gets crowded on event days. It's pretty large inside with lots of tables and bar seating. If you snag a window you can enjoy some great people watching. My partner enjoys the full bar, but I usually just opt for house wine. I've not tried the food, but it is available. Joe's is located right next to the International District light rail station and is also very close to the sports stadiums so you can grab a drink here before going to a game. Even if you don't go you can hang out here to watch them on the TVs. This is your typical dive bar with your usual dive bar fare like bar food, an arcade, TVs, a pool table, and pull tabs. It's a corner bar that is unassuming with not much signage. Well drinks were $6.50 which are an okay deal. This is a great lively dive bar in the International District. The service here is great, even when it is slammed. The food here is bar food options. I have tried a few different items and the best is the cheeseburger with fries. It's a nice burger with fresh tomato and crispy lettuce. The fries are fantastic. They are seasoned well and have a great crunch to them. However, the mozerella sticks and jalapeño poppers did not disappoint and are a great snack. For the drinks, the prices are reasonable and they are worth the price. Last but not least, they have pull tab lotto which is great fun while waiting on your food or while watching the game. This bar is the worst experience I ever had. Me and my dude decided to go to Joe's and we start a tab. We run into my auntie there. We decided to visit with her and stayed for about four hours. When asked to cash out. I did my card first. The bartender named LuLu was our bartender. I cashed out with her and it was $80. I went to the restroom l came out and I see my dude looking upset. He said he cashed out with a bartender named Felicity and he was charged $80. He said that doesn't make sense since we are going half on the tab. When I tried asking Felicity about the bill she automatically gets frustrated and yells she is calling the cops. I was confused on what we did besides asked to explain to us how we are each paying $80 a piece. Her and LuLu refused to answer our questions. I asked if we can get a receipt and LuLu hands a hand written sheet of her tally of how many rounds we ordered. We end up paying the $80 a piece and they still kicked us out and said we cannot come back. Be careful this bar when they think you are too intoxicated they try to rob you with no shame. read more

Bartender, Katie, was an asshole (expected, and low key appreciated at a "dive bar"), requiring me to order before she would serve me water. I ordered a crispy chicken with fries, and when I got home I opened a grilled chicken with soup, so I went back to get my correct order. Katie had taken my order, but she was unapologetic and told me to go directly to the chef when she saw me coming. Poor chef was very apologetic and said he was told the wrong order, but ultimately said it was his fault, and gave me a fist bump as consolation. Whatever. Crispy chicken and fries were good enough, and cheap draught IPA is always a win in my book. read more

Joe's Bar and Grill was not a bad dive bar. I stopped in for a few drinks before the Mariner's game--I did not have any food and I suspect they aren't known for their haute cuisine. I had a on-tap cider, PBR, and a mystery shot. Both the cider and PBR were as expected and the mystery shot was unexpectedly alright (it was a rye whiskey, I believe). The bartenders were very busy, but responsive and friendly. I would come to Joe's again before a game. read more

We were here in Seattle for a weekend trip and asked a delivery guy on a bicycle where the cheapest drinks in downtown Seattle would be. He laughed at us and said there was none but if we didn't mind the walk, go to Joe's. So we did. We were promptly greeted at the door by one of the cutest dogs ever!!! He was a gentle giant that made sure to mingle with everyone at the bar. It wasn't very packed at the time we came. This is the kind of bar where you have to grab the bathroom key from the bartender or if you're pee standing up, you get buzzed into your bathroom. Let's "dive" (cuz it's a dive bar? *crickets* I get the message. Stick to my day job. O.O) into this review. Atmosphere: I can say walking in, you get greeted by this awesome old lady at the bar. (You know, the one that can make bomb cookies and probably mix up a couple of hard alcohol into your Christmas drinks.) The bar in general was covered in sayings of frames and some of the most gorgeous art my eyeballs came to touching. (Cuz who says classy and vomit cant come in hand? ._.) Its pretty roomy in what seems like a small bar, but itll all comes in hand. (Like the Tardis is Seattle. :3 [Is that show still running? ._. David Tennant and Matt Smith... you're always in my heart.]) Some sections of the floor were a bit sticky (but I'm only guessing that was to keep everyone that was intoxicated from not falling over and to that, I say that's good manners.) A couple of pool tables (cuz nothing like pushing balls with a stick into geometric angles to make it into a hole, doesn't scream classy! ._.) The bathroom was a delight. (I'm being sarcastic.) This was the only section, that I felt like I was going to get stabbed. It was covered in graffiti and quite honestly there was a febreeze smell of urine. It made this a very pleasant experience. Food/ Drinks: Food came instantly, and although thoughts of the horrendous bathroom lingered my thoughts like a dog sitting and staring out the window after a 4th of July night. (Thinking, how he was able to keep everyone safe from the horrible catastrophe that was happening outside.) The thoughts diminished quickly. The smell of sour dough and BLT replaced it. (Like a beaver stepping into a new river and seeing the vast spread of wood all around him.) Classics never die and this bar proved that the simplest gestures of meals are always a good core base. The burgers were spot on and for that I have to tip my miniature baby top hat for the chef. (They had a normal top hat, but I only had a dollar. ._.) Beer was cold and excellent. (Like the cool uncle that always came every weekend, but then.. became your step dad. [Finally, they told you it was a lie, because everyone in the family was ok, except you. Joe's is a solid dive bar. Only complaints are the lottery pull tabs that litter the floor/tables and the fixed bar stools. Otherwise the bartenders are great, quick pours and strong drinks, and the other patrons were there for the same reason I was, to drink. Couple small high top tables after you enter thru the front door. Bar is on the right with the previously mentioned immovable round padded bar stools. They sit on an elevated platform with no foot rest (stools are short). Very well worn laminate bar to with no rail. The back bar is filled with shelves, signs, and lottery boxes. Few TVs in the corners. A pinball machine for some entertainment but thankfully no one playing while I've been at Joe's. Mostly middle aged or older guys drinking. Not a big place but worth finding. read more

Sports bar? Sports bar? I think I'd stand outside in the snow watching TVs outside of a storefront window before I came here for a game. I think John C. put it best (I assume he was joking, but at this place you never know) when he said, "We were going to use the bathroom but there's a hypodermic needle attached to the key you need to open it." Many dive bars in Seattle have been described as Lynchian due to their atmosphere and the clientele they attract. I think if David Lynch ever wandered in here he would scream at the top of his lungs and run his coffee-addicted self away as fast as he possibly could. A new category of bar must be created for this establishment: Freak Scene. Obligatory useful sentences: They have cheap beer. I am also 100% positive that hipsters will never invade this place. +5 for the mere fact that it exists at all and for reminding me that, compared to a lot of people out there in this harsh world, I really do have a wonderful life. Let me give you my review of Joe's in bullet points, it's a bullet (no pun intended) point kind of place. * It smells like a urinal cake, seriously the place is stinky, wear a mask. * Don't use the ladies room unless you absolutely have to its very unclean plus you have to get the key from the bartender, its sketchy trust me I learned the hard way. * Do not, I repeat DO NOT take any pictures in here, especially using a flash the cliental will freak out and want to beat you down if they know you've taken a picture of them, again I learned the hard way. * Do not accidentally smile at someone outside your party they will take it as an invite to talk to you. * They have beer and hard liquor, and $3.75 Mac and Jacks. * If you pay close enough attention you might see a drug deal go down. * They have pool, darts, pull tabs and a jukebox. * Some/one of the boys I was with was/were too scared to use the boys room here, I used the ladies room in all it's sketchy glory and I had to sit/squat they didn't; freaking pussies! No hard feeling boys promise. And for that last bullet point alone I believe this place deserves five stars for it is truely a very divey bar in the non-hipster kind of way. read more

For hard-scrabble, roily bars in Seattle it's hard to beat south Pioneer Square and the International District, and the hard-scrabbliest, roiliest one of them all is Joe's Bar and Grill (Happy Hour 7am to noon). I like it, and though I didn't give it my "great dive bar" rating, I may be persuaded to do so after going another time or two. Joe's was formerly the Red Front Tavern, and if your idea of a great dive bar is a grizzled set of regulars, this is probably the best in the city. read more

Perfect Dive Bar in a Great Location. Nothing trendy here folks. Just a dive bar that's been here forever. You'll notice the ancient wood bar and wood refrigerators, so you know it's old school. The bartenders are all pretty friendly, and know how to run a tight ship. They get plenty of street drunks as well as locals who have been coming for years, so they maintain order while still getting everyone the elixirs they need. On game days it's going to be insane here. But on a typical evening, sans game, it's a nice pit stop across from the King Street station for a cold drink and some people watching. I went to this bar when I was having a terrible day. It had what seemed to be locals, and city workers who just got off of a hard days work. I lived in walking distance so on that note just know there's not really any parking. The bartender was nice and seems to take no mess. Please note its a cash bar so it is what it is. It also says that outside so stop whining about it. They have an easy ATM that's not sketchy. Some of the strange men outside will hit on you, and it's annoying. The drinks are strong, it doesn't smell and it's a great please to people watch and let loose after a long day. I got an AMF and a beer and sat and people watched. There's a pool table and a lot seating! I don't think the bathroom is good at all but again its in downtown by a bus station. read more
