First time in boulder creek and stopped by a local bar. Love that it felt cozy and everyone is so welcoming, even the visitors. I told the bartender I wanted a margarita mix. Tasted so good, couldn't even taste the alcohol. They have shot ski's so did a few rounds of that with their kamikaze shots. Those shoes were delicious with fresh limes. I like how there's pool tables in the back if you play pool. During holidays they have events with food, so that seems like lots of fun. Definitely will be coming back. read more

Joe's is always a pretty good time. The locals are nice but may look at you funny in the start. They'll warm up! Pool tournament is weekly and always good time. Tables are also still 5-0 cents which is amazing. Only thing to do in this town but they make the most of it. Bartenders are all also very cool. Love joes. read more

My wife and I have been coming here once or twice a week for the last year. We like to have a drink, play pool (50 cents!) and visit, and pretend to look good in our cowboy boots and jeans. We especially love the bands--no cover but definitely should be tipped. The bartenders and the regulars have always been super friendly, even to a couple in their 60's (like us) from Saratoga. I feel a bit guilty writing this, kind of like I am giving away a secret fishing hole that is about to be spoiled. Oh well. read more

One particular bar tender was extremely rude. Wasn't serving customers well and spent more time smoking and having drama than serving drinks. Probably loaded herself she became aggressive. Nice patrons but she was equally rude to her regulars and they didn't seem pleased. Spent plenty but ended up yelling at me and kicking me out, wouldn't even let me grab my phone charger. (They don't have any available) Only go here if you are local and don't mind bad attitudes and poor service. read more

In the mountains and thirsty for a Bloody Mary before we went into Big Basin State forest. Marilyn served up a bloody Maria for us as we prefer tequila. In retrospect we should have tried their marinated vodka. No matter it was still excellent with the shrimp, bacon and crisp celery. Such a cool joint. My old lady and I stopped in here after a trip to Santa Cruz. The bartender was a tall gypsy-looking dame, super friendly and seems like she could be good at waterskiing, if you knowmsain'. Anyway, we had a couple of drinks (gin and tonic for daddy, little baby girl had herself a spritzer or two, like you do). Praise Jesus. An hour or so well spent, though. We had to hit the road and get back home. 10/10 would lather, rinse and repeat. It's like copping a sweet nut without the sticky mess. read more

The best way I can explain Joe's is to call it a Classy Dive. Classy: The place is kept clean and the patrons and staff care enough about the ancient bar top that everyone uses coasters. Jukebox? 5 songs for a buck. Pool? 2 well maintained tables, straight house cues and $0.25 per game. Lookin' for trouble? If you get into a fight you're 86ed for LIFE. Dive: Dimly lit, sports on the TV and STIFF drinks. Clientele? No one gives me a second glance when I walk in. Fun fact! On the floor, under the bar is a brass trough that the gentlemen of a bygone era used to "relive" them selves. The owner Karenann is a wonderful, civic minded individual. If you need a venue for a benefit she has a place for it and knows a crappy band that plays for peanuts. She has a little kitchen in the back and the 3 or 4 times a year that it's open for events Joe's is transformed into the best restaurant in Boulder Creek. read more

Our family was on vacation and excited to stop in and relax at Joe's Bar. Have a beer in this historical bar. It ended there! The woman bartender gave us the stink eye as soon as we walk in. I sat down and she walked past us gave the existing patron their beer, plopped her elbows on the bar and glared at all of us. I said hello no response. So after very long 10 minutes of her glaring, we left........ Went to Boulder Creek Brewery, and they are awesome................ They only received the 1 star because of being historical. read more

What's not to like about Joe's? Good vibe, friendly bartenders, signature Boulder Creek feel. KILLER bloody marys and decent beer selection. Not a place to lay low (at least not for me) because I inevitably run into people I know there, but that's part of the fun! Especially fun to hang out here on weekends during the day (yes, during the day) and visit with some of the road-trippers passing through. read more

Goooo, Joe's! 3 stars now with new ownership: some things are still the same and good there, like seems like they still have great bands, but they seem to be trying to slowly modernize by bringing in things like a new digital jukebox, which has some shitty selections like rap for gawd's sake. Sorry but this is an old historical mountain town, and many of the people here like the older feel and look of things. the last thing is the bartender, the young tattooed one. Not sure if i'm calliing it right, but she seems a little arrogant,,because she doesnt make a lot of eye contact, or smile much. she just isn't very personable, but other bartenders there seem really nice. read more

I love Joe's. Every year I travel up to the Santa Cruz Mountains to relax for a week and love stopping in here. It's cliche to say, but you step in you're treated like family. I like the mountain folks and the slow pace. Occasionally some tech fools come in and ruin the vibe, but for the most part it's got great mojo. I played in a pool tournament several years ago thinking I was going to take the locals to school; I was eliminated the first round! It was great to sit there and drink and watch the tourney play out, however. Don't expect the environs to be grand or some fine menu. Go to drink and relax and you won't be disappointed. read more

Ah, the walk of shame. That's what we call it when the Boulder Creek Brewery closes and we hit Joe's. It's a good old fashioned bar, with pool tables and dart boards and a pretty good jukebox. The clientele aren't as scary as they look. I'd walk in alone anytime. They don't suffer fools gladly, so don't be an idiot. One of my favorite bars. read more

Nice, old-fashioned neighborhood bar that's been there forever -- since around 1900, I believe, with a good mix of people and age groups all getting along and there to have fun --- friendly staff and owners --3 pool tables, an up to date jukebox with a wide variety of music - something for everybody. Beautiful old bar and great bartenders. The bar seems rough, but it's actually a friendly crowd and staff as long as (as the previous person said) you're not being a jerk. Such a fun place. For an older bar, the bathrooms were impeccable. I've never been in a bar with such a clean bathroom. Fun place and good times. It's the best little hole-in-the-wall place in BC. Every time I've gone there with friends we've had a blast. It's pretty small, with only 2 pool tables in the back, but everyone is super friendly and no one is ever afraid to start up a conversation. One star for an awesome bathroom... and that's about it. The homeless and drugged out crowd that hangs out there can be overwhelming at times. However, the large amount of creepy old homeless looking men is what brings me to call this a dive bar. The blonde bartender was very rude and dismissive. When she brought my drink she never had a smile and ignored dropping my drink garnish. The drinks aren't cheap and I'd like at least a little consideration for the quality of my drink and experience. She was very cold in the interactions we had, and it was off-putting. It seemed like she had been doing this for too long and didn't enjoy it enough to do a good job. People have bad days I get it but she was on a sick one. The dark haired bartender was very nice and warm. She holds the place together with her sweet and attentive nature. I probably wouldn't go there again, the blonde lady was depressing, and it's more fun to be at a dive bar that is meant to be a dive bar. read more
