My french toast was cooked perfectly, crispy on the edges and soft and chewy in the middle which paired perfectly with some maple syrup. It looks like an old fashioned diner where you can get a sandwich and cup of coffee and chat with your server, and it is! Great food, I've eaten there more than once, always consistently good for a good price. Cash is welcomed, which I consider a big plus, but I am sure they don't mind credit cards either. The staff was very nice and made sure our coffee cups were full at all times. I ordered the Pancake Combo that came w/buttermilk pancakes, bacon, eggs, and potatoes. Everything was cooked perfectly, especially my over hard eggs. The potatoes were nice and crispy. The pancakes were light and fluffy and I got 4 pieces of bacon. Most places only give you a couple. This place just seems to stay the same year after year. Lately being going there more since it is close to home. Quite decent food and coffee like you remember it. Parking is not a problem and while it's not fancy it is just plain comfortable. Hopefully it just stays this way. New can be nice but that feeling of comfort and stability is rare. Joe's is not far from our house so we do eat there often. The food is fantastic, we went and had a waffle, egg and bacon with the crispness is perfect of thick bacon piece and egg. Country Fried Steak - 1.5 Stars 3. Mexican Steak Breakfast - 1 Star 4. Cinnamon Roll French Toast - 3 Star The pancakes were definitely the highlight. Country fried steak was ok, but the instant gravy had a funk to it. The Mexican Steak Breakfast looked like some sort of soupy grossness that an animal abuser would feed their dogs before beating them profusely. It tasted pretty good, but it was difficult to eat and was not visually appealing at all. Cinnamon roll french toast was a disappointment mainly because the waitress did a pretty bad job of explaining what it was. Speaking of the waitress, as I sit over these plates of breakfast reviewing this restaurant on Yelp, she has yet to come up and ask how the food was. I have enjoyed dining at Joes Cafe for years. Yesterday I ordered a Cheese Burger and fries and tea. I'm sorry to say that the quality of the food has fallen off. The sandwich just didn't taste very good....like the meat was on the verge of turning bad.... Meat pattie was very thin. Now the french fries were good, but they only gave me about 12.. Sometimes its nice to go to a regular cafe for a old fashion burger because its thick and juicy and usually a step above the national burger chains. But honestly have to say that Burger King Whopper was much better. You can surely tell that corners are being cut here and the quality is beginning to suffer. I contacted an employee that just recently quit and whey they resigned was because the quality of the food went down hill and they couldn't serve it to customers anymore. I will go back for breakfast and see how that goes....Not sure if there is new management or what's going on.... All I know is that for the cost of burger/fries/tea/tip at $18.00, I expected a better meal. read more

There are so many options to go to and so many variety of diners in Lakewood. I don't live in Lakewood but been to many diners. This diner by far I have seen has the oldest and original decor probably from the first time it open. Even the carpet still has the estate sale smell to it. The bathrooms were missing paper towels and using the cheesy watery refill soap. I am not a snob for decoration or how nice the place looks. I am for what most of you yelpers look for, the quality, taste and service. I was greeted by a very nice waitress and I was seating at the stools. Asked if I wanted water right away and attended to my needs of coffee instead. Order the Joe's burrito and about 8 minutes later I received a very big well dressed smothered burrito. Everything was delicious other then the potatoes. The green chile was smoking good, competition good. Joe's burrito comes with hash browns, ground beef, scramble eggs, and lots of awesome green chile and cheese. Will I come back again? Yes I would and I most likely order the same burrito with no potatoes and instead put refried beans. I really liked this place. What sealed the deal initially were interactions with the friendly staff. Our waitress was patient and friendly sitting down with us to take the order. On top of that they have super fast service; our order was ready within 7 minutes! My wife loved her pancakes with whipped butter. They were light and fluffy, just the way she likes them.
