Stopped into Joe's on our way through town earlier this week. The shop had a wide variety of roughly 15 savory and sweet pies to choose from and the staff was welcoming and patient. We picked up a cherry and Key Lime. The cherry was bursting with fresh fruit filling and the crust was flaky and buttery! The key lime was probably the best I've had. We have tried the blueberry/peach pie & Southern buttermilk lemon pie & quiche Lorraine. I gifted a blueberry crumb pie to a friend and she loved it! All really well made and delicious. I have been baking pies for decades and prefer good pie to cake anytime. However, most store purchased pies have dismal crusts and sugary mediocre fillings. Not so here!!! We love these pies and for good reason. They are made with quality ingredients and taste absolutely delicious. I do not live in the area, but am there on occasion. Holy smoke! I recently tried the Chicken Pot Pie and it was killer and fresh! Anytime you can see the whole herbs inside the pie you know you've got a home-cooked product. I also grabbed a pumpkin-pecan-praline and a chili pot pie for later in the week and look forward to cracking into those too. They also had Homespun chili--which appears to be made out of a small storefront in Dumont--that was excellent! Their pot pies are to die for - beef is a family favorite (it's straight up beef stew in the most heavenly crust you could imagine ), the chicken pot pie is shredded and delicious, and the sausage and peppers one should be a game day staple ! I Love pie and live near a local pie shop in Rockland County New York, so when I heard about another pie shop opening in the area, I came running. I came in on a Saturday morning, just me and another woman and within five minutes, about eight other patrons were behind us. I picked out four flavors in the mini size, coconut custard, key lime, a chicken pot pie, and Quiche Lorraine. The coconut custard and key lime......outstanding! They offer you toasted coconut on top of the coconut custard if you'd like it. A woman next to me purchased an apple pie and was offered powdered sugar on top. The chicken pot pie was hearty and cozy, full of chicken, carrots and celery. The Quiche Lorraine was sooo delicious, very flavorful. The key lime comes packaged in a box, but the other three pies in the mini size are put in a plastic, sealable bag with a label that includes storage and heating instructions. Nice touch. I am all for supporting local establishments and specialty shops such as this and this place is a really nice change from the cookies, cakes, cupcakes you get at a bakery. I also love that they offer seasonal pies, such as coconut custard and pecan, now, in the Summer, rather than having to wait till the holidays. Nice owners, good selection, a great location in a lovely little town where you can stroll the main street visiting local shops. Maybe take a walk down to Conrad's for some vanilla ice cream with that apple pie. Give these guys your business. They are a welcome and delicious addition to Westwood! read more
