My nursing staff wanted to buy a "farewell" cake for a peer's new job. Since we work nights, we were glad that after work at 7am, this bakery [down the street!!] was open to take our order :) There are no updated menu pictures except the one posted from a fellow Yelper 2 years ago & guided in us what this bakery offered. I absolutely refused getting buttercream (being scarred from Shop Rite's). So my coworker spoke to whomever & ordered just a "cannoli cake". Not sure exactly what icing was used, but for sure it was cannoli stuffed with a lovely toasty (NOT soggy cannoli yayyy!) presented on top. My coworker said that she spoke with someone about being able to pick up the cake at 6:30pm & was almost disappointed when she arrived & seemed they were about to close up shop imagining what would have happened if she came a bit late. Anyways, cake was received & found the cake to be misspelled as "Fairwell". Disappointed but in a hurry, she just took the cake. Even if spelling could make one upset, the cake was generously large for $30... this cake gave about 20 nice slices & we were happy about that even though, it took some improvision to correct the spelling. The cake was lovely decorated & tasted great. It was not dry, not too sweet & had a delicious cannoli filling with choco chips. Our staff marveled about how NOT sweet it was. That is the reason why this cake is being glorified. The generous portion, the cake texture, taste & filling won our nightly gluttonous nursing stomachs. Love this sweet little shop. They have the tastiest blueberry loaf cake and blueberry muffins. Like THE best. So moist and flavorful. It's become a tradition where my husband takes our three year old daughter on a weekend, every weekend. She'll grab the "rainbow cakes" and my husband buys a muffin and coffee. Mccrum's opened down the street from my office so my coworker convinced me to go try it out. The shop is pretty small, mostly standing room with a large display case of the pastries for sale. I remember a small (1 table?) seating area by the door. The guy behind the counter seems like a nice guy. He knows his product and was able to accurately describe what anything I ordered would be like. So far, I've had the apple turnovers, apple strudel, fruit tarts, and flourless chocolate cake. All of them were delicious. But as the guy said, the flourless chocolate cake was extremely rich and heavy. I didn't finish it. Maybe I'll try this place out for a custom cake. read more

McCrums worked with me to create the baby shower cake of my fantasies for my sister's shower this August. The owner was able to look at 2 designs I loved (each being a different size) and expertly meld them to be the 2-tier cake I imagined. He made all the tweaks I requested in terms of colors and style and the cake tasted great. Delicious buttercream icing too (just the right sweetness). Stopped by to pick up some cookies for my coworkers. Cute and quaint little place with an abundance of baked goods to choose from! I was immediately greeted by a kind woman behind the counter, who was patient while I stood there mulling over my decision. They have cookies, pastries, doughnuts, danishes, cakes (custom, too), and quick breads. Having quick breads is a huge plus in my book, because you don't see that in bakeries at all, or at least in my experience. I ended up getting a pound's worth of cookies of her choosing and I definitely couldn't resist getting a St. Joseph's cannoli zeppole for myself ('tis the season!). Did not take a picture of it, but they had a cute little chalkboard to the right of the store that spelled out what kind of custom cake you could order, down to the type of filling and frosting. Extremely unprofessional and lacking of knowledge in customer service etiquette. I'm so appalled. There seemed to be some confusion though text with Ashley the person responding who gave a price with out asking anything about what I wanted. So I called and spoke with the "counter girl" I told her what I wanted and she gave me a different price of $80 after asking the baker. I've ordered non decorated fondant cakes from here at the end of last year multiple times, and was charged the same price each time according to size . I've also referred many customers. So All I asked was how come the prices went up from the previous times I ordered which was Double; mind you....She stumbled over her response and replied the prices went up. I said ok , no problem that should be fine. I asked her to get back to me with a price to add drip and she said I will text you. Then I receive a message from what I believe to be the baker or owner Randy. They must not really need business with how the conversation went . Apparently the counter girl thought $80 was breaking my bank when I asked why the price went up...when in reality I was ordering for someone else, whom I already told what it cost me when i ordered other times , and i needed to confirm with them . Instead of him calling and clarifying, him and his counter girlfriend came up with something weird in their heads. Mind you i was very easy going and a polite customer at the time. He also Cleary does not take time to read responses properly as he responded back ruder when I said- If the price of $80 (which she gave me from him) , is to little now for two cakes I understand . He thought i was saying his cakes were little and insulting him. Such strange behavior. I did mention twice calling might be a better way to handle whatever miscommunication there was since his counter girlfriend didn't seem to be very good at her job either, clearly. I'd attach the text conversation but I would rather make sure this review comes up. I hope they can fix this issue by not doing this to their next patron which surly will not be sent by me . I ordered from a lovely baker in Hackensack, she was very polite. I personally would pay double for better customer service. They honestly don't deserve one star but since I'm nice I gave two because the cakes are alright. I've had better cake and craftsmanship though, it was more for convenience because they are close and the cakes are more for show. Good luck to future customers on special occasions read more

My God. I honestly cannot say enough good things about the master baker and all the staff at McCrums Bakery. First off I sent him a bunch of baby shark cake pictures I thought were nice, but wow he really outdid himself. I cannot even express how beautiful, and how much this cake meant to my family for my daughters first birthday. It's awesome and tastes just as awesome as it looks. All the cookies I bought for the part tasted AMAZING and looked so elegant and fun. Absolute perfection. I'm not going anywhere else. I really wanted to like this cake but I just didn't. Service was great. The girl who serviced me was awesome and very sweet and informative. She listened to what I wanted and made some good suggestions initially. My niece is into unicorns and color. I picked out a cake design I knew she would love and when it was shown to whom I assume is the Baker he said he could do it. I emailed the pic and also asked that the inside be marbled in bright different colors(rainbow). Now what I showed and what I was given was not the same. Something was lost in translation. The cake was not ugly but it wasn't what I expected at all. The taste was the worse. It wasn't good. It wasn't horrible, but it definitely was not good. It tasted like box cake mix, I swear!! And not even the good kind. The filling was bland and the strawberries were not a good mix in there. And the colors all fused together and was an ugly red mess. I was so excited for the cake but it left a bitter taste literally and figuratively. The price was great. Which is why I would order again but definitely not that strawberry mix or even colors inside. I would stick with something more simple.
