We were the only ones in here for a good 30 minutes, but I mean, it was the middle of the day in the middle of the week...most people were at work or school, so we didn't let that deter us. We each ordered an Italian ice, because duh, it's in the name, right? He got regular cherry and I got Bada Bing Cherry, and we both got ours topped with custard. For me, the custard (vanilla) was a great choice to help tame the VERY strong cherry flavor. I am not complaining in the least, but we both got larges, and the flavor of mine was intense, and there was soooo much of it! I will caution to beware of your flavor choice, as you will leave with a coordinating tongue color! Also? Beware of brain freeze....it will sneak up on you. From the outside, the place is very drive-in looking, even though it's not one. Once you walk in the doors, there is a very strong red and white color scheme, and all the decor is 50's real or inspired. There is an original wooden phone booth complete with bench and folding door, a barber's chair, and signage, among other things. Don't forget to look up, because stuff is all over the ceilings AND in the skylight bumpouts. The tables and chairs are 50's style chrome and vinyl. This was okay, I liked it but it wasn't as good as the one in Anaheim CA. The reason I took away one star, was because the ice under the soft-serve ice cream was flavorless. We are used to our flavored ice to have the flavor we picked... but we both tasted each other's ice and it was really flavorless despite the color. In Anaheim, the flavor of the strawberry or mango is truly there and it's noticeable! I guess it's not the same out here in Arizona... The place was decorated like a soda fountain shop from the 50's and a vintage garage; interesting vibe! Otherwise the staff were good, friendly, but short staffed. A line built up very quickly and I overheard some folks complaining that it was unusual. So not my best first time at an establishment I like. Bummer. But not terrible. It was fine. Came to visit my bestie in AZ and I was so stoked to find out they had Joe's Italian Ice over here! I had to bring her ASAP when I saw it and guess what? She loved it! I've been to one in Cali before, so it was really fun to experience it again out here in Arizona. This place will always hold a special spot in my heart... and definitely in my stomach. Flabbergasted that this place is listed as just one dollar sign on Yelp. This has got to be the most expensive ice cream shop in the east valley. $9.95 for a small dipped cone? Always love to visit this place! First, I always have a great time checking out the decors inside the shop, which are nostalgic and unique! Second, the ice I get is always delicious! BEST SOFT SERVE I HAVE EVER HAD IN MY LIFE. Location is great. No long line like the one in Anaheim. Never got a chance to try Joe's because of that. But was able here in Arizona due to no wait time. They have flavors of the days and change menu flavors consistently. Favorite one is watermelon or cherry. They let you try sample as well so deciding is easier. I'm not much of a sweet liking person, but on this evening, I decided to try out Joe's Italian ice. The service was great as I really didn't know what I wanted and they offered me a variety of samples. They have quite a large selection to choose from, and I opted in for the Dole pineapple vanilla swirl cone dipped in chocolate. As I took my sweet treat to the car and took one bite I couldn't believe how flavorful the pineapple was. Then you add that with the chocolate dip and this was truly a memorable treat. The inside is similar to a diner, it's open and clean with lots of light. There's plenty of Ample parking around and behind the establishment. Oh. My. Goodness. So. Yummy. We got 2 Joe Lattis, one with dolewhip and mango and strawberry colada ice, and another with chocolate soft serve and cookies and cream ice. We also got a strawberry's and cream Italian ice. Everyone had their own favorite, but I loved the mango, the chocolate on chocolate, and my strawberry's and cream was absolutely phenomenal, even though I'm not a strawberry lover. The employees were also incredibly kind and super helpful in picking our flavors. We were unfortunately on vacation when we tried this place, but apparently there's a local spot by our house which we will probably be regulars at. read more

Wow!! I got the Dole Whip / vanilla soft serve swirl with mango ice (and a lot of other ice flavors I think they forgot to put in) and it was incredible. The ice cream is smooth and creamy - and it's always a special treat to get dole whip outside of Hawaii. The ice was flavorful without being too sweet or tasting like artificial syrup. It was all blended in already and the ice is smooth and snow like - not crunchy. It combined really well with the soft serve, so it really wasn't like an afterthought or just throwing ice cream upsells on random things. I was talking to the employee and let her know that I can just take the rest in a cup so that she doesn't waste what I was already served. Katy came over and snatched the cone out of my hand and threw it away and said she refused and would only make an entire new one. I ended up asking for a refund because of her attitude. She rolled her eyes and at first refused to give her name and would not tell me who her name was. First time here, recommended by a friend. Really like the decor. Their ice cream is really creamy and thick for their sofserve. And their Italian ice is really good as well. My first time. They were kind enough to offer samples for the flavor of the day even without us asking. Their samples were quite big as well. I felt the joelatti which is a combination of their soft serve and the Italian ice is a great combination. They also have sundaes and milkshakes which I haven't tried but definitely would like to try. I was introduced to this place by a friend a couple years ago. Now that I live closer to Joe's Italian Ice, I can see myself coming here more often. When I was a kid growing up in the Valley, there once was a Farrell's Ice Cream Parlour at this intersection. It's cool that Joe's Italian Ice is serving up their popular Philadelphia-style Italian Ice in the same spot that I grew up eating ice cream at. Joe's has so many flavors to choose from. I think I counted close to 60! Hard to say which one I think is the best because so far I have enjoyed all of the ones that I have ordered. I always get my Italian Ice with a "Joe Latti" - their soft serve ice cream that they ship from Pennsylvania. If you are a Dad, Joe's gives out an Italian ice to all the Dads for Fathers Day. Joe's Italian Ice opened their first location in California and then came to the Valley in 2014 to open this Tempe location. Well apparently the bogo deal only applies to certain people!! My son and his girlfriend just went to joes and the customer in front of them asked for the bogo deal cause of the rain, the employees sierra gave them the deal. When my son asked for the same deal the denied it. They claimed it wasn't raining anymore. But here we are on 5/24/26 and it's still actively raining. The fact the employee and even manager gave them attitude instead of honoring the deal is beyond ridiculous. So please talk to your manager April about her attitude. If you gave the deal to the customer right before them and not us that seems a little unfair. read more
