This "made from scratch" restaurant cranks out tangy, savory foods. Huge pretzel came to us in what appeared to be a hand tossed shape. Warm, savory and delicious with a bit of rosemary. The Brussel sprouts were heaven in two tangy sauces. The chicken pot pie is outstanding- like grandma's house. Cajun tots are zingy - nearly slap yo momma. I had asked around about Joe's on Jolly and I received mixed reviews. We thought we'd try it out anyway. The parking was limited, but the number of tables that were available inside the restaurant, in the front patio, and in the backyard patio was fantastic. The ambience was perfect for after-work gatherings, casual meals with friends, and family celebrations. The menu offered a variety of options to choose from. I ordered the cheesesteak sandwich and my husband ordered the crispy shrimp tacos. We both enjoyed the selections we made, and my cheesesteak sandwich was more than enough for two meals. I especially liked that I could substitute sweet potato fries for the french fries that came with my meal at no extra charge. We will be back! read more

Joe's is kinda that place! It's massive with ample seating options, large bar, good food and great service! Located in a standalone building next to a shopping center, there is lots of parking. There is a nice sized outdoor seating and bar area. There are several options for dining room seating as well, although the majority of the chairs are u comfortable, highly recommend requesting a booth, back dining room or game room seating. (High tops and bar stools aren't comfy) . We have been multiple times and have had everything from happy hours specials, to burgers, to a daily specials! Everything has been served the right temperature and esthetically pleasing. And the dishes taste very good, good amount of flavors in everything we have tried. I have had the pleasure of visiting here a few times! The last two times since they hired an excellent chef, the food has been superb! Chef Alex has brought fun, creativity, interesting and delicious flavors! I brought a big group at a previous visit and all the food got rave reviews! My most recent visit was with family and we're so happy with our meal, from the appetizers to the most amazing house made desserts! Highlights: cheese curds, the pretzels , the tacos ,the Korean cheesesteak, such unique flavors, the pizzas , are so flavorful with tasty and generous toppings, cooked just right! The desserts are the best way to top off the meal! We loved the bread pudding, the most amazing lava cake and the chef's special, churro with white chocolate cream! Oh my! They were all EPIC! They serve all scratch made food here at Joe's on Jolly and you can taste the difference right down to all house made dressings. After reading mixed reviews, I was pleasantly surprised by my experience! We arrive just before the dinner crowds, so we were seated quickly and had our pick of where we wanted to sit. Out waiter provided good service, although could have provided more details on menu and recs. Food was solid- our table ordered burgers, wings, and a wrap. Although we likely wouldn't get the wings and wrap again, they were fine, we just would rather try other items. The burger the favorite of the table. Made a reservation for Easter at 2:00 p.m. There was nothing on the website and was not told that the only food served that day was a buffet which ended at 2:30 p.m. When we decided to stay because we thought we wouldn't get in any place else, we were never told the price of the buffet or the automatic gratuity that would be placed on our bill. Food was okay, service was horrible and the overall feeling of being rushed through our meal made the whole experience not very fun. Will not be returning!! read more

We came for dinner July 2024....had a lovely time! See my pics for reference, but I'll tell you, we enjoyed everything very much. Claire was our server and was personable and attentive. William visited our table and made us feel right at home. Several other staff were on point with dish clearing and checking on us. The atmosphere is comfortable, trendy and smart but casual still. Prices are commensurate with the quality of the good food presented. Our final thoughts while finishing up were we will definitely be coming here again and especially if we have guests! Stopped in for a burger. Was able to find a side that wasn't fried. Many of the appetizers sounded tasty but fried and some had soy so I passed. Had a build your own burger with an egg wrapped in lettuce versus a bun. Requested medium well - cook through. The burger came on thin slice of lettuce and was more like medium rare. The manager was concerned and wanted to comp the burger, but I refused. He insisted on 50% off. Service was great and friendly, restaurant was nicely decorated other than the seating. I tried this restaurant out for the first time today and was pleasantly impressed! The service was excellent and the atmosphere was unique. It used to be a tire shop before becoming a restaurant, but they retained the original garage doors and some of the overall look of the old shop. The food was excellent, they use Wagyu beef for all of their burger meat (you can opt for other options if beef isn't your thing) and they cooked mine to perfection. Also, they have a lovely alcoholic drink selection. I tried the lavender blueberry martini and it was excellent!! I definitely recommend giving this cool place a try. A most positive group dining experience. I would definitely return. Only a slight communication issue that was ultimately resolved put a cloud on the evening before arrival. However, all was put to rest and an enjoyable evening followed. At the time of reserving on the phone, our group of 11 was told we could be seated at 6, but food orders would not be taken until 6:30. Sure enough, at 6:30 our server arrived to take our food orders. Mostly burgers and a limited number of vegetarian items. Quality of everything was delicious and nicely presented. Three starters were shared by the group (4 would have been better). I ordered a salad to share with my individual burger. Two desserts made their way around the table. I ate at Joes on Jolly twice last week. I went to lunch with a friend and everything was very, very good. We especially loved the brussels sprouts. They have two sauces. Both are so delicious that you want a spoon to get everything bit. My friend had the bugogi cheese steak, which she said was good. It was large enough to take half home to her husband. I had the caprese chicken wrap and it was delicious. I also brought half home to my husband. My second visit was on Friday with my husband and friends. We sat on the back patio for drinks and dinner while we listen to live music. It was so pleasant and enjoyable. The only thing that made me mad was that I hadn't been coming on a Friday earlier in the summer! The music was great, the atmosphere lovely. Families with children who were dancing and playing games. It was our second time going there and today we went there for the lions game. The food is absolutely immaculate! Highly recommend the Korean beef tacos. We have also tried (and love) their Mac n cheese, sweet and spicy wagyu burger! Drinks are good as well. Service has always been pretty good, but can be slower when they're busier (as expected). I should've checked Yelp first... Google reviews were more friendly to this place. Agree with a lot of the reviews of saying the food is just ok and generally overpriced. We got pizza for the kids and they didn't like it, we tried it and there was a weird aftertaste to it. Nothing rotten or what not, but it wasn't a good pizza for sure. My wife and I ordered some of their tacos and the bacon wrapped jalapeno appetizer. The appetizer was fine but nothing that's gonna rock your boat. The tacos were...a lot. One thing I can't criticize is portioning. Each flour tortilla is loaded to the brim with lots of meat, lots of toppings, and lots of sauce. Honestly I think the tacos would be better if there was 30% less meat and sauce. It's a typical scenario of more more more. Just add more of XYZ and it'll taste great. But had they shown some restraint I think the tacos would've eaten a little more balanced. You could tell there were some good flavors in there but you were just totally overwhelmed by there being a lot of whatever the most dominant flavor was in the taco. We didn't even finish our tacos. The food was pretty mid for the price. My drink was good (July firecracker) the space was cute and the music was great. Service left a lot to be desired. We had a fairly big party (11 but two were toddlers who didn't order). The place wasn't busy but we had a long wait. Service was subpar and things were brought out in weird order. Even though we all ordered at the same time. For example i ordered a buffalo chicken wrap (it was ok, one side was saucy but the other side was dry and when i asked for extra sauce it was 75 cents). It came with fries and I also had a side salad. I was almost done with my salad and wrap before my fries came. Fries were good. Truffle upgrade would probably be better. For 2 drinks, a half dry chicken wrap, fries and side house salad I paid $60. The menu is massive and random so between all of us there is a variety of orders. Only one person truly loved their order (grilled cheese bites). Others weren't bad just know.. mid. One persons order was completely forgotten and came out shortly before we left. She did get it comped and a gift certificate. We were all there for a birthday party and said at the very beginning we would be wanting the birthday dessert. After the bill came and we paid we waited at least another 15 minutes for it. People left are party was down to 4 by then. I wouldn't go back by choice just because there are plenty of other options but if someone else elected to got there I would show up. Maybe just drink and fries. read more

Our friends got us a reservation for Friday evening as we're from out of town and they had yet to check this place out. It was very busy and they take reservations serious as tables were open but reserved ahead of time so plan accordingly. Everyone was friendly and helpful and our service was fine throughout. The restaurant is newer but it is very spacious and I'm sure it will be a popular destination come summer with the outdoor space. Was able to park out there though it wasn't ready yet but big outdoor bar with seating and fun Game areas. Also a mini arcade inside but ample seating throughout. Oh and a front patio that was open but full. Great ambiance for gatherings or games too since TVs throughout and a full square bar if you want to go alone. The food was very tasty. My spice burger had the perfect amount of spice and flavor, my wife got the Margherita pizza and it was phenomenal, kids portions were big and filling as well and a very solid and big drink menu. Yep. It's pretty to look at. And that's the lure. It's in a great place in a college town that is surrounded by hotels. How can it lose? Let me tell you. We watched as they built this place a couple years ago. Waited with anticipation to visit. And didn't come in for 7 weeks after opening so they could get the bugs out. It's unfair otherwise. Apparently, we should have waited much longer. Everyone is always too busy here. The wait can be long. The host bar is not in a thoughtful space as long lines put us in the wait staff's way. I felt intrusive. And the hosts will NOT look at you until it is your turn at the podium. But that's the least of it. Esthetically, it's beautiful. But that's where it ends. The menu is PRICEY for what you get. We have tried it 3 times ourselves and been back with work parties and as guests of others. The truth of the matter is the end DOESN'T justify the prices. And the food is ok. And at first I thought, maybe it's what I am ordering. So each time I tried a different dish. The menu has some great ideas poorly executed. What's described is not always what you get. And at their prices, that's a big deal/damn shame combination platter. I will say each time that our servers were efficient, but over-worked and they didn't mind telling us. We have a fair amount of friends that dine and we often compare notes. And truly, it's always a 50/50 gamble. Bowl of soup? $8. Mac & Cheese? 13.5! Add Chicken? $6! What? You can check out the menu online. The prices are exorbitant. It's not for the average family. And most every time someone had left HUNGRY. I have left a criticism here and there but never have been addressed. You know why? Great bar food, plus a few non bar items. It is located about a 10 minute drive from Campus, so caters to the local croud. Wait staff are all students, so serive can be hit or miss. I find the burgers, and all things fried to be spot on. Only been here twice, so have not explored the menu too much. It looks to be a new place, so everything is clean. But you will pay for that. I'm so annoyed with the nickle and dime approach here. My two big gripes from our most recent visit: the burger comes with fries but if you want to sub some vegetables it's an extra $6 charge! And, you want a side of mayo with your burger? Tack on $0.50. I know fifty cents is not a lot of money but it's ridiculous that they charge for that. Next time I'm bringing my own mayo. I asked for no bun. They should pay ME for that if we're going to talk about counting pennies. But there's no discount for leaving off the bun. Of course not. Went for dinner with my friend who turned 21 the day prior. He ordered a beer and the server threatened to take his Drivers license thinking it was "fake". We then argued and got the "bar manager" to come over and take a look at his ID who also said his REAL DRIVERS LICENSE was fake and refused to serve him. The "bar manager" also pointed out that the Drivers license said not for real ID purposes which only matters for scenarios like ENTERING A NUCLEAR POWER PLANT OR GOVERNMENT FACILITY and has zero correlation to the sale of alcohol. The guy even asked for the zip code which my friend answered correctly with no hesitation. Awful service will never come back. I suggest all the staff there actually get trained on how to read IDs so they don't embarrass themselves any further. read more

By the time I was able to notify someone and receive my condiments my burger and fries were cold. I have been to Joe's on Jolly several times now as I work in the Okemos area... I have never had a great experience here. Each time I have gone, something has been a miss. Last time we had a group of eight for lunch, with a reservation ( I know lunch staffing can be difficult). Some of our party was done eating before others got their food. The food itself has never been impressive and if it were a different price point, it would be fine. But again, $20+ for a lunch and pop makes me expect a different/ better quality meal. The Mac and cheese has been dry, the pizza greasy, and very sparse shrimp in the wrap. Additionally, I have received cold food, but with the wait that it took to come out I didn't want to say anything. I think the atmosphere and location are good and the servers have always been friendly though sometimes over whelmed. I know the restaurant is fairly new so hopefully they can work out some of the kinks. Sadly, even being a close option for me, it is not my go to. read more

A bit of a let down. I think the locals were pretty excited to get a new upscale bar in Okemos but the quality of the food is pretty mediocre. The drinks were good & having the option to sit outside was nice, we really enjoyed the couches. But if you're looking for great food, drinks & an even better atmosphere with entertainment on certain days make the drive to the west side of Lansing & go to "One North" - chefs kiss. I ordered a mocktail that was embarrassing -- just was a watered down club soda with some mint, which hardly made me feel that I was indulging in something nice without alcohol.
