Place is small but has a few tables to sit at. Talked with the owner and he was friendly and attentive. We tried the pasties. Crust is very different than the types of crusts of Michigan pasties. Pasties were heavy on potatoes like those around Mackinaw city (tourists). I also felt that the pasties were a little light on onions. There were no other vegetables inside. That surprised me. I also felt that the pasties were a little bland. We ordered the pasties with gravy. The gravy was good. Place was clean and well lighted with views of the outside world. But we ate there anyway. pasties weren't bad but I probably would not return.

Nice little restaurant we saw while on the trolley tour of Butte. We went back after the tour for lunch. The Pasties are huge & delicious! We took home a dozen of the small ones. Excellent service!

Very credible pasty. Get the gravy - the crust is crusty-in a good way- and the gravy is a good partner. The filling has a generous ratio of meat to potato. I'm from Michigan and pasties are a staple there in the Upper Peninsula. Joe's quality stands right among those I'm familiar with back home. Get some slaw on the side and enjoy. Give Joe a visit - keep this place in business. This country doesn't need more chains. Mark D

Cheeseburger was so good and I got an egg on it and they even asked me how runny I wanted my egg. Fries were fantastic and perfectly crispy. Service was amazing, kindest people. Very small town vibe/ambiance. The very sweet waitress even gave me a free cookie to go. 10/10 experience.

Great pastys...they were great this time, just like the time I had them about ten years ago. Nice plate of pasty with gravy. It was hot and tasty. It's a pasty...not a steak. They are quite good for what they are. It hit the spot for certain. This is an iconic spot in Butte, and well worth the stop. Great service, great people, and be sure to talk to the guy making them if you show up in the morning. They are still using some of the original equipment back there in the kitchen that you can see. Fun stop for sure!

Some of the best pasties in Montana. Makes for a hearty "miner -like" meal. No wonder they were so popular. Love the chili cheese pasty.

While this restaurant came highly recommended by everyone we asked, I hesitated at first because it wasn't a historic building. It seems most if not all historical restaurants are long gone. Ultimately, we decided to give it a try--and I am so glad we did! We shared the the shepherd's pie and bread pudding for dessert. We hesitated at first with the shepherds pie as it was not the typical recipe, this was made with lamb and topped with colcannon potatoes. I was pleasantly surprised when the kitchen thoughtfully split our plate for us. Because our friends weren't familiar with those potatoes, they settled on the fish instead, ordering the 2-piece and 3-piece cod dinners. They thought the fish was fantastic and the lamb shepherd's pie was absolutely delicious. The bread pudding was excellent too. It was a thoroughly enjoyable evening, and we highly recommend stopping in!

Service and ambiance were perfect after a long hard day of work and travel. The only blotch on an otherwise perfect meal was the crème brûlée; it was gritty, too thick, and the sugar was poorly caramelized. Skip the dessert, enjoy the meal. The things that aggravated me were the fact that the kids meals were advertised as coming with a drink and a souvenir cup, (my kids were excited to get it) but the very young woman at the hostess stand who took my order first told me I was mistaken, then mumbled something about it not being on her computer so we needed to order/pay for it separately. I waited forever in for the food only to find that it was ready, but no one ever called me despite having my number. We were given no utensils despite leaving a nice tip. Food-wise everything tasted ok (the kids liked the ribs), but the wedge salad was horribly basic - literally half a salad with blue cheese dressing and prepackaged bacon-bits, and some sprinkles of old scallions. There was no tomato, there was no crumbled blue cheese, there was no egg. This was nothing that you would expect from a restaurant. I actually called to find out if they had forgotten to add things to it but, nope!
