I was mistaken in my first review. After my latest experience tonight, a DoorDash order of a 16" pepperoni mushroom pie I am almost completely satisfied. Cheese was high quality. Sauce was great. Crust was wonderful. This was as good a pie as I've ever had in this town. New York/New Jersey pizza is still easily the best, but Joe's comes pretty close. I hate to say it, but the chicken Alfredo and garlic cheese bread were EXTREMELY disappointing. The chicken tasted as if it was either frozen, canned, or both. It was over cooked and tough to chew. The garlic bread was well buttered and cheesy, but it lacked garlic. The next day, I reheated the leftover pasta to not waste food... the sauce separated and made a huge grease blob. I visited this place with a friend who recommended it as a hidden gem for pizza in downtown killeen. The restaurant had a very comfortably vibe to it, like a place you know you can relax in and count on the staff to give you the right amount of attention and privacy all at once. You could see the cooks (I think one of them was Joe himself) really getting down to business making their pizzas and calzones and such. I ordered a spinach calzone after my friend recommended giving one of them a try as an introduction to the food. Let me tell you, the portion size was great, but the flavor was what really sealed the deal for me. The cheese was melting and oozing with greatness. The bread was crispy, soft, and nicely topped with melted butter and parmesan. I was pleasantly surprised by this pizza shop. I'm a huge fan of Bobby Lupos in Harker Heights but this is definitely a hidden gem in Killeen. A coworker mentioned how amazingly delicious the pizza was so I decided to order a couple of carry out pizzas for dinner. The wife and I have been looking for a local pizza joint, away from the Dominos and Pizza Hut of the pizza world and settled on Joes's. The mention of it being a NY style type of pizza intrigued me more and I finally settled on it. They have one of the best pizza specials in this town XXL one topping pizza for $10.99, so we decided to get that special which is carry out only with pepperoni. Order would be done in 20 min. and by the time I got there it was pretty much on time exactly. The pizza was steaming hot, overall it was your typical NY style, flat, moderate crust and sauce was at a minimum as NY style dictates in every characteristic. A little "pizza" grease was layered on, personally my foodie self loves on some pizzas. We also ordered the garlic bread knots, which knocked rating to 3 stars, was basically just bread with parmesan cheese sprinkled on and side of marinara sauce (not really thick). No indication of garlic or any other flavor, not really soft, would not get again. Would of opted for their pizza or spinach rolls next time though. Was it the best NY style Pizza? The pizzas tasted good and I thought the cheese quality was above average. I am puzzled by the bad reviews on here.
