Dinner Visit 07/30/2026: This is a difficult review to provide as our family has not experienced back to back visits, in a two month period, since we first became patrons. We enjoyed the Sarasota location for years. Once the Venice location opened we continued great dine-in and carry-out visits. I think everyone can have a bad day. Twice, with the same server, we indicated the iced tea tastes old or bitter. Someone in our family has been drinking your iced tea between two different locations for more than 12 years. In the past, no excuses, other servers just made a fresh batch. Not with this server, two separate visits, the server said, "If we make a fresh batch it will taste exactly the same." Hmm... brewed iced tea begins to lose its peak flavor and freshness (becomes bitter or flat) and starts to oxidize at or before 4 hours. So, the iced tea was only sipped one or two times. A different beverage was ordered. Iced tea left on edge of table along with a water that was not ordered. A large thin crust pizza was ordered. We asked to make sure it would really be a thin crust or just a medium/regular crust. The sever said, "It will be thin crust." We mentioned on the last visit the 10" thin crust was great and we would to make sure it is the same thin crust. The server said, "It will be thin." We had to move the water and the iced tea cups to the wall side of the table because the server didn't remove them while on the serving side of the table, the server had more than enough time to remove them. The pizza is served. The crust edge is raised the same way a regular/medium crust size is commonly prepared. The cross section of the pie dough is at least 3/8 inches thick, this is not a thin crust pie. The dough is very tough and almost impossible to cut with a knife. The dough is not fresh for sure. We still gave it a chance, since the server was nowhere to be found to indicate we had an issue. We basically ate the cheese and toppings from 2 small squares and 2 small triangles. Later we explained the issue to the server. The server explains that when a pizza is larger the dough thickness is larger. We explained the dough is so tough we cannot even cut it with a knife without destroying the pie or having in our laps. We would like to have one 10" thin crust pizza made with the same toppings in place of what was brought out to us. The server leaves our plates with the bad dough on them which are at the edge of the server side of the table. The server passes several times, checks with guests on opposite sides of our booth and has plenty of time to remove the plates and possibly even ask to remove the drink cups that we had to move to the opposite side of the table earlier before the replacement pie arrives. So, we move the plates to the opposite side of the table just prior to when the 10" pie arrives. The server didn't even ask if we would like new plates. While we were eating from the 10" pie pan, not even finished eating, the server comes up and said, will you pass me the plates, used napkins, silverware, and cups from the opposite side of the server side of the table? Our answer, no, we will not. The server said, my boss gets really mad if we don't clean the tables quickly. We indicated we kept all small wares and used napkins at edge of the table for you since the iced tea issue and you choose not to remove them. So, we had to moved them out of way twice. The server didn't respond and just walked away. The server drops off the tab on the edge of table, doesn't say anything, and didn't miss a step as she passed by. The server did not remove the iced tea or the original large pizza order from the tab. We had to go up to the bar because the server was not on the floor for more time than we were going to wait patiently. We explained the discrepancies to the person at the bar and the server came rapidly to see what was going on. No apologies from any staff. Corrected tab was dropped off in a similar fashion. No accountability. In addition, the restaurant bar and dinning room was not busy. Cleanliness was subpar in our booth, black pepper shaker (a disposable) clearly had moisture inside because pepper was stuck to the inner wall in several places while the pepper lever was less than 1/8th of an inch (gross). If we have to wait for season to receive WOW service, what a shame for a family business to lose year round guests. We took our time to provide this feedback because we have been long time guests and nothing like this have ever happened before. read more

I posted a good review over a year ago and I don't know what changed but a month ago I ordered our regular ( steak and cheese sub and a calzone) and it was just okay, we tried it last night and it was inedible.. the steak and cheese hardly had any onions and peppers se basically it was just steak and way too much cheese, I got chess fries and they were so salty that I took 2 bites and I threw them away, my husband's calzone was flat like the dough didn't rise and it had very little meat and it was tasteless . We don't get to eat out often and I won't be going back. What a shame, it seems like the kitchen staff just doesn't care anymore. Eat at your own risk!! I might as well flushed our hard earned cash down the toilet. The main reason I posted this review is because I woke up at 5 am nauseous and with a bad taste in my mouth. read more

Stopped to try the breaded steak sandwich on our way to Venice Beach and it was a 10/10. As a Chicago native, it was perfect. It's so hard to find anywhere that does it, so to find somewhere that does it well was amazing! We will be back soon read more

Our favorites are the pizza and mozzarella sticks (marinara is fantastic). Hot dogs and wings mediocre. Tater tots are awful - frozen, no taste, bad texture. Atmosphere is decent - feels like a pizza place for sure. Chicago sports decor is well done - many interesting photos. Service is very good, and pricing is definitely reasonable. If you're in the mood for pizza, this place won't disappoint. Go Bears! read more

We stopped here for dinner! The Chicago style pizza is fantastic! The marinara is fresh and full of flavor! We had 3 gigantic garlic knots to start and couldn't stop talking about how good they were. The pizza has the trifecta perfected. Crust, sauce and cheese were all on point. The crust maintained a satisfying crunch while maintaining a tender texture. The amount of sauce was perfect and the savory flavor complemented the ingredients. The cheese has just the right amount of stretchiness. Also on the huge menu was a very respectable chili dog. A true Chicago style deep dish pizza can be found here! We visit a state park in the area a couple times a year and always pick up a pizza and salads to have back at the camp site. Our order is always ready on time and presented with a smile. We've never gone inside to eat, having discovered them during the pandemic, but we're planning to eat in the dining room on our next visit! If you're looking for a thin and crispy pizza, this is Not the place. More like thin and soggy. Some people may like a lot of toppings but this was way over topped to the point of disgusting. The tomatoes were your typical large tomatoes not Romas as they should be. The sweet peppers were more like flavored green peppers cut in halves. My son and me had a wonderful time at Joey D's. We stopped in on a Monday, about 4:30. It seemed a little slow, but people started showing up as we were leaving. I can imagine they are busy on the weekends. Great Chicago vibe with all the Chicago sports memorabilia on the walls. Being Bears' fans we definitely felt at home. Probably would be a great place to watch a Bears game. My son had the cauliflower crust, because of his gluten sensitivity and I had the thin crust. Plenty of toppings for the price. My family and I had an awesome dinner tonight at Joey D's Venice. It was my second time there, and once more, they did not disappoint. Their Chicago deep dish pizza is legendary! I also sampled the thin crust, which is also delicious and not too thin, and the penne alfredo and salads, both of which were also fantastic. What was most notable was the SERVICE. Michelle S took care of our party of nine, and she had a party of 15 behind us that she also served. They were a handful, and she was unflappable. She did not miss a beat with us, either. I had a big club soda, and she brought be two refills before my glass ran out. She was so kind and so attentive! Would definitely recommend. read more

We went on a Sunday afternoon it was relatively slow. Probably about 4 o'clock Parking is not a problem. Handicapped accessible as well. They have a bar and they have a regular restaurant. We sat in the restaurant. We ordered the deep dish it's enough for two people with leftovers. We ordered extra cheese mushrooms and pepperoni. We didn't get much pepperoni that I saw at all and just a few mushrooms. But we did get the extra cheese and it was a little bit too cheesy. Lol We are going to go back and give them a second try no doubt. I gave them four stars because of the mishap with the pizza. I wish I could tell you our waiters name he was pretty funny I hope you found this information helpful there are five locations around the West Coast of Florida.
