Here for the first time last night with a large group. Place was packed ( Saturday night). Our server, Enrique, was excellent-- attentive as he could be, and very personable--especially with the crowd. Apps included were calamari ( excellent!! ) and Greek nachos, which I didn't really like because I didn't like the " nachos", but they were covered with feta, olives and tomatoes-- great concept . My Greek side salad was good, loved the dressing. My spinach pie entree was actually 2 plates of 2 pieces...by the time I got to them I was full and only took one small bite, but it was a little greasy. Hubby got a make your own pizza and the one piece I had was yummy. There was a singer who was excellent, but it was pretty loud and difficult to hear many of the conversations Appreciated also that the tv's had on the Olympics! The pizza is not good. I went in and sat at the bar close to 7 o'clock. The bar was only about half full and it's a small bar. The first half of the bar top had a small group of people that the staff knew. It took a long time to get service even though there were two people that were back-and-forth behind the bar. My pizza came out stone cold as no one seemed to be paying attention to what was going on and it did not have extra sauce as I had asked for. No one ever asked me if my food was ok. By this time there were 3 people behind the bar still not paying attention to anybody but this other group or just doing things and not even looking at anybody else. My wine was empty for a while. nobody noticed or asked if I wanted another. I would've had another glass but the third guy behind the bar who may have been the manager or owner was doing fireball shots with the group and they were getting very loud. I was just over it at that point. When I watched the bathroom after ordering, I looked at people's pizza as I walked by and they all looked cold and dead just like mine. And interestingly enough a guy sat down next to me just to have one drink right before my pizza arrived. If you're from New England or the Northeast and love a true Greek-style pizza, this place is fantastic. In my opinion, it's one of the few pizza places in the Lakewood Ranch, Bradenton, and Sarasota area that actually reminds me of the pizza I grew up with. The pizza has that classic Greek-style crust and flavor profile that people from the Northeast will immediately recognize. If you're expecting New York-style or Neapolitan pizza, this may not be your favorite. But if you know and appreciate Greek pizza, you're going to love it. Beyond the food, the restaurant has a warm, homey feel, the ingredients are fresh, and everything feels made with care. Walking in honestly feels a little like being back in New England. Stopped in since we wanted a pizza and should have realized by the name it was more Greek than Italian. Going over the menu back and forth between Pasta, Gyro or Pizza. Saw some pasta dishes coming out they were Huge and pretty decent looking. So pizza it was half onion and half mushroom. Pizza took a while meaning it was made fresh which is good. While we waited the place was fairly empty but it was between a lunch and dinner time so not a big deal. Our server was great very friendly and kept checking on us. Pizza came out nice thin crust, done well not soggy or over oily, though being from NY I'd have been with that. The pizza was good, nice sauce and plenty of mushroom and onion. It's a nice place very open with a full bar and seating of half booth/table combos great for anyone who's a tad bit endowed in the stomach area. Was nice and quiet but again was daily empty but I imagine it can be quite noisy and lively when packed. read more

We took my mother here tonight for her birthday and sat on the patio. All total, we had the baked feta and bruschetta appetizers, a cup of chicken soup, the eggplant Parmesan with spaghetti, the Hercules grain bowl, (mine, YUM) baked ziti with meatballs, salads, drinks, and dessert. We liked all of our food. The bruschetta was particularly tasty. The prices were reasonable. What really made my mother's birthday, however, was our fantastic server. His name is Jaycob. If you find yourself in the University Parkway area, and you are trying to give someone a fun evening, call and see if he is working and make sure you sit in his station. Service is good! Been here for dine in and have had take out several times. I do not recommend take out because the food doesn't taste fresh at all. Dine in the food comes out piping hot. Last night my daughter and I dined in. I had asked about the penne ala vodka to see if it was saucy and server said yes but not overwhelming. I requested overwhelming saucy because I don't like it just coated. The menu description does say "creamy" but it was not and was presented to me as a coated red sauce. I don't argue it wasn't homemade, however it is 100% not creamy. When server asked how I liked it and if it was saucy enough I said no, I was expecting it to be saucy as per my order request and he said "ahhhh. Next time" my daughter had lasagna which was a massive portion. While transferring to a take home box I noticed a lot of condensation at the bottom of the lasagna dish which to me indicated it was previously frozen and not made to order or fresh. We will be back, but only for dine in pizza. No more meals, as over several meals in several years, we are never impressed. Got up to urinate twice the previous night (one more time than usual) and woke up starving and exhausted from the extra calories burbed. I decided to give Demetrius on University/Lockwood a try. I wanted something lighter, so I ordered a large meatball and salami pie to go. The atmosphere was average. It wasn't busy for a Saturday night in December. The staff was friendly. They had an old award from 2016 hanging on their wall for "best local Greek restaurant" I was beyond confused, I thought this was a pizza place...oh well. First look at the pie seemed decent, generous with the meatballs, but on the lighter side with the salami. I picked up the first piece and my heart instantly sank a little bit. I could tell immediately the under carriage was soft and slightly soggy, and this was going to be a flaccid under cooked pizza. Didn't even come close to passing the flaccid test (I held a piece by the crust, and not only did it not stay erect, it almost fell to a 90 degree angle as shown in the photo). The flavor wasn't bad, meatballs and salami were tasty. The sauce was okay, a little on the sweeter side but not overwhelmingly so. The crust (only on the edge of the pie) was actually excellent, by far the best part of the pie. Medium thickness crust though out, not thick, but also not thin. Gotta cook the undercarriage more, or at least find some way to crisp it up. Very average pizza. Not the best, but not the worst in Sarasota. Give this Greek (I guess?) restaurant a try if you want. I doubt you'll think too highly of it though. Very average. read more

Finding a good pizza is difficult so was happy when a neighbor recommended Demetrios. Ordered a large plain cheese pizza for pickup as we live very close to the restaurant. Pizza was already cold. The sauce was mediocre with a bare covering of mozzarella. We ate one slice each then threw away the rest. Off the list as a Pizza place and still looking for a good NY style pizza. read more

I made a yelp account just to make a review because the pizza was so bad. Came for the first time and got takeout and our pizza was burnt and the cheese was weirdly chewy. We were super hungry and ordered a large but could only get through 1/4 of the pizza before having to throw the rest away. It's hard to find something good. The veal parmigiana was okay. It came out 1st followed much later by a different meal at the table. Finally, the veal franchise was served (2 others at the table ordered it @22$ ) 20 minutes after we had finished eating ours and it was a piece of veal with a fried egg on top after sending it back, they used the same veal, it was not good to be polite. Due to waiting so long I went ahead and order dessert. Got the lemoncello cake (included a picture).It had a hair in it- they did take the cake off the bill -- the food was not edible. We did speak to the manager who is the one who took the veal back and cooked the franchese over, but used the same piece of veil apparently because it was falling apart and not good. He also argued with us over the meal instead of just fixing it and making it right. I am really disappointed- I came here for years but willl Never be back. I'm now to the area and thought I would try it out. I ordered a shrimp alfredo to go. When I got home I noticed the shrimp wasn't even peeled. so I had to peel shrimp with Alfredo sauce all of it before I could eat it. I've never seen this done at any other restaurant. I tried this place for the first time today with my daughter. I ordered the eggplant parmigiana with gluten free spaghetti. Mine came with a salad so I asked for the Caesar salad. I did not get gluten free spaghetti instead because they were out of gluten free spaghetti the cook thought gluten free penne was fine to substitute, I was not asked. The Caesar salad was basically a tossed salad with rusty romaine and tomatoes. I have to say it was my first Caesar salad with tomatoes ever! The waiter told me "yeah the romaine was not very good" ( yet he served it anyway) lesson #1 if you wouldn't eat it yourself don't serve it. I would like to mention he did offer to make me another Caesar salad with Iceberg lettuce. We had mozzarella triangles that weren't bad and the sauce for them was delicious. My daughter had the pizza and said it was like what they serve at the food booths at Universal. Even with all the issues I was still given an up-charge of $1 for the soggy gluten free pasta. I would advise to save your money and go to an actual Italian restaurant. It will cost you about the same. read more

We were seated at 5:46 pm. No one came to wait on our table til 6:02 at which time I was told happy hour was over. I explained that I was sitting here for more than 10 minutes and I should be able to have happy hour price for a drink. I was told that couldn't be done because the computer would not allow it. I'm amazed at how this younger generation who have used computers all of their lives can't figure out to override the computer or simply manually type in the happy hour price of a drink. Instead of demonstrating customer service (which seems to have gradually nearly disappeared over the last 20 years) he chose to argue with me. When I threatened to leave the response I got was, "good". I could believe my ears. I didn't want to leave. I wanted a pizza. So I said just take our order for a pizza and bring us both water please Realizing what he had just done he said he would bring me a drink and he would pay for it. I refused. He offered again and I refused. He brought our pizza and we ate. I left nearly a 20% tip. He brought a box for my leftovers and a complementary tiramisu. How easy would it have been to say, "Happy hour is over but since you've been waiting for ten minutes I will honor it". Instead he made me feel I need to fight to get what was right. Probably the drink discount amounted to $2. But rather than say yes he has chosen to lose $$$ for the restaurant in future revenue from a happy returning customer. Picked up a cheese pizza to go. It was delicious! The cheese was very generous and had a buttery taste.

It started off bad with roaches crawling up the wall behind my daughter and niece. I wanted to leave and was outvoted, so we stayed. It continued downhill from there. I ordered the Greek burger mid rare. It arrived burnt and gray in the center. I gave it back to the waitress and told her no thank you. The gyro was sub standard as was the rest of the food. Oh and DON'T order the spinach dip! The "manager" Charles took the burger off the bill and offered drinks and dessert to make up for the live roaches by our table. I go there every Thursday for Karoke. In the last 2 weeks we had very poor service. Last night I ask a server if he had our table. He came over and said that no was was assigned to our table but he would wait on us. I mean really? We ordered our food - he came back and said that mine would take longer because another server took my food to a different table. Many servers last night kept walking past us - it was at least 30 minutes before Charles waited on us. The service is horrible!!! We are there every Thursday and this is what we get!!! We have visited this restaurant several times and each time we enjoyed the food and service. We arrived today, Monday, before 4-pm and the place only had a few tables active. We had our pick of anyplace to sit...all was well. It was downhill from there. Our wait person "L", was far too busy chatting with coworkers and hostess to pay attention to us. Finally, she came over, asked what we'd like to drink. We ordered a glass of wine and a draught beer. After 10-minutes of waiting, we began to walkout but the nice lady bartender, tired of waiting for "L" to pick up the drinks and deliver them so she brought the order to us. A Loonnggg time later," L" arrived and took our dinner order and it arrived in a timely manner however there was no garlic bread. She said the kitchen was "working on it". I requested some grated cheese and tobasco sauce. It finally arrived and I inquired if this was her first waiting job; she was shocked and said no. She never asked if we were enjoying the food. Pretty basic stuff. We finished our meal and the garlic bread never arrived. When she brought the check, she brought the garlic bread with it "in case you still want it"! However, there was a tall young gentleman cleaning and clearing tables, He also had a broom and a dustpan and was staying busy. I asked if he was the manager since he was displaying pride in keeping the restaurant clean. He laughed and said he was actually a waiter but that he personally can't just stand around doing nothing and wasting time! If there's time to lean, there's time to clean! This guy was a role model but clearly his coworkers weren't impressed. I hope the real manager reads this and commends him. It'll be a while before we return to Demetrio's. read more

Seated at 5:30 and chose to sit outside. Nice sturdy tables and chairs. Nice night even though it was drizzling. Rob was our waiter. Very attentive and quick with our drinks and order. We ordered a mini Chef salad and a medium Hawaiian pizza. Salad was huge for being a mini. I think he thought it was for two but anyhow I ate most of it. The pizza came out quickly and it the crust was crunchy and buttery. Really good crust. By the time we were done the tables were packed. Perfect timing. read more
