Rare is it that I go out for two meals in a day, and never before to the same restaurant for them! But yesterday, we had to drop off my car for some repair work, so indulged in breakfast out at The Coop, a favorite. The food is always delicious, the service is truly impeccable with well trained, friendly servers, and it's very clean and homey. I had an egg special, and my choices included two (perfectly cooked) poached eggs, three crisp on the outside sausages, a well balanced fruit bowl with fresh pineapple, melons, and grapes, and a short stack of their light and fluffy pancakes. My husband had over easy eggs, bacon, pancakes and fruit, plus we both had The Coop's rich, deeply flavorful coffee. Everything was excellent and at a most affordable price. Fast forward several hours: my daughter and her young sons were in the area on an errand, so we met up and of course the boys were hungry, so as The Coop was, once again, very close, we went there. My daughter was very happy to see decidedly different menu options for kids' meals than the usual. Two of them had grilled cheese sandwiches with fruit cups, the third had a scrambled egg, sausage, a pancake and fruit, my daughter had French toast, and I had two cheeseburger sliders with fries. Wow!! This place is amazing. We were seated right away. The place was extremely clean. I ordered the daily special ham and cheese omelette. The portions were huge. My omelette came with red skinned potatoes and toast. Food was fresh and served hot. My husband had peach cobbler pancakes that he said was excellent. Peaches were so fresh. She separated our checks which was very appreciated and was extremely accommodating to some guests coming later than others. I ordered the Southerner Benny. There's plenty of parking and easy access in to restaurant. They are always busy and there was a 10-15 minute wait which was accurate. As soon as we walked in the NOISE smacks you right in the face and ears. The restaurant was spacious and clean with a nice menu but the NOISE makes it almost unbearable. My wife ordered the Crème brûlée French toast which looked good but was extremely sweet and quickly turned mushy. She would not order it again. My mother in law ordered French toast and bacon. The bacon was hard and difficult for her to eat and the French toast was average. I ordered a BLT, added an egg to make it a BELT, and then added cheese to make it a BELTCH sandwich with crispy fries and a cup of chicken dumpling soup which came with the meal. I even told the waitress that I hate soggy limp fries. Because I lost my smell and taste 5 months ago I asked my wife to try the soup, and when she took 2 spoons I knew she liked it and she told me it tasted good. My sandwich was nice and thick, full of good food and the lettuce was very fresh but they were hot house tomatoes. My fries arrived COLD and SOGGY . I would order it again, however, I doubt we will ever return to the restaurant. The WOMENs restroom is under construction so they have to share with the men and I would think that a restaurant that size with only one functioning restroom is a health code violation. While waiting in line to use the men's restroom, a very nice lady told me that it's been under construction for a very long time. I noticed that there were 4 men inside of the restroom standing around TALKING and NO WORK was being done. They made sure to try to keep the door closed every time someone walked by. I ate about half of it, but the apple topping was essentially canned apple pie filling -- a little too goopy and artificial for my taste. I wouldn't recommend it as there are plenty of other yummy things on the menu. Our server wasn't spectacular. She only made one trip to our table to take our food and beverage order and then one more to drop off the food. It would have been nice to get a beverage refill. We had to wave her down for the check. As for ambiance, The Coop is a cute little diner. It's cozy and clean, but nothing too special. Awesome breakfast / brunch / lunch place with table service. Went on a Friday around noon and were seated right away. Our server was friendly and prompt. Menu has a lot of options - everyone can find something they will love. I had the Coop burger and fries, delicious. Too big, had to take half the burger home. Same with the Coop skillet - fantastic taste and enough leftovers for breakfast for 2 of us (we added some additional eggs). We had a small kiddo making a fair bit of noise toward the end of our meal, but other than that the restaurant was not too loud and was very clean. A personal favorite of mine, their use of local coffee brand, Colectivo, exacerbates their local feel and reputation. The chicken and dumpling soup is one of the greatest soups in Waukesha I have ever tasted, perfectly seasoned to perfection, and the dumplings are soft and tender. The soup keeps calling me back every time I put down the spoon. Like a pie in a window seal, I can't help but get drawn to its amazing flavors. The Southwest chicken wrap is a perfect example of textbook food science working for the betterment of the dish, the texture makes my mouth burst with flavor that would otherwise be lost if made sloppy, the perfect ratio of lettuce, tomato, onion, corn, beans, sauce, and chicken create a classy cotillion on my taste buds. I had the Espanola skillet, delivered exactly as ordered, with jalapeños and salsa on the side. The two-egg skillet with eggs on top meant the eggs disappeared pretty quickly but the portions of chicken and ham were particularly generous, with plenty of each leftover in my to-go box. Taylor took good care of us and let my husband believe his jokes were funny. The coop is a cute breakfast spot that has somewhat of an old school feel with the seating but with a modern and delicious menu. The tacos were incredible. Healthy serving of chicken any eggs and the sauce was very tasty. They are a bit messy as the tortillas are very full of filling. It is not clear on the menu but the chicken is an extra charge for the tacos, they can be ordered without additional meat. It was good but next time I will get them without to have it a more traditional breakfast taco flavor. The waitress was very pleasant and kept our coffees and waters full throughout the our meal. The check can be paid off of a QR code while sitting at your table which is very convenient if there is a line at the front register. Overall highly recommend stopping in if you are in the area. I was looking forward to the short rib,bacon,sausage, and ham combo over potatoes. I was a little disappointed, as the short rib took over the skillet. The very small deli ham pieces, small sausage pieces, and almost non-existent bacon pieces were not recognizable in the flavor. I feel like off the bone ham and consistent size meat pieces would help this signature dish come together. The highlight is always the cheesy hashbrowns and fresh squeezed orange juice. While it was great, the omelettes looked amazing & if you aren't trying to eat healthy then I would suggest the Monte Christo. Probably one of the best looking Monte Cristo's I have ever seen. The chicken sandwiches looked great too. Would like to see more lunches that aren't sandwiches bc I really wanted the chicken but not on a sandwich.
