Joey's Fish Shack is an amazing fish and seafood restaurant with location in Edmonton - I've had the fish and chips, fish tacos and a few other dishes and the food is always so good !! Service is great, friendly and very quick. The ambiance at their locations is neat and very nice, and showcase anything sea and seafood. Went here with family mid afternoon for a late lunch/early supper (around 2 p.m.). Walked in and was aurally assaulted with loud Bollywood type music playing. No one at the front desk, in fact, no one in the restaurant except a cook I could see on his phone in the kitchen. Waited for someone..anyone to seat us. No one there,to seat us= acknowledgeour presence. Waited ,trying to make eye contact with cook, unsuccessful. No bell or anything to ring for service, waited a little longer then left and went to the St.Albert location and had prompt courteous service and a meal. Do not recommend it. read more

Joey's Only is one of Edmonton's most popular seafood restaurants. It is especially known for its fish and chips dinners - long pieces of fish with a light, crispy coating, served with an abundance of fried and coleslaw. We would often take out the Family Pack at my home, which has steadily increased in price over the years without offering much more in the way of value. There are also fish dinners of other varieties such as sole and salmon, and in recent years, Roasty Jack chicken dinners, served with two side dishes and a small piece of cornbread. Side dishes include baked beans in a delicious barbecue sauce, fries, rice, and coleslaw. The pieces of chicken are kind of small, but the prices are reasonable for the dinners. Tuesdays features all you can eat fish and chips -- not a good night for takeout as the pieces tend to be smaller and the place gets packed! If you dine in, be prepared for a long-ish wait in between servings. However, on other days the service is quite efficient. read more

Just came home with my order and the portion of calamari was PATHETIC and very chewy . In the restaurant the portions are much better. Do not get this as take out. Seeing a review about this place reminded me why I wanted to forget Joey's Only Seafood. I always felt apprehensive about trying this place. I just had this feeling I might not like it, but one day I decided to take a risk, because you just never know, right? Well, sorry to say, but my initial feelings were right. I wasn't that impressed with the atmosphere, which actually seemed kind of unclean for some reason, and it was just sort of tacky. I ordered a crispy (deep fried) fish sandwich. The fish tasted pretty good, but the bun was way oversized for the fish. It was more suited for a submarine sandwich, not a thin piece of fish. I liked that I got to pick a couple side dishes, but they were really mediocre. The potatoes I had were just plain, boiled potatoes with some dried herbs thrown on. Before my friend and I went to a concert we decided to stop in at Joey's for dinner. My potatoes were cold, my friend's gravy looked like clumpy pudding and the whole meal was very, very distasteful. Because we had a short amount of time before the concert we ate what we could. After my meal I went to the bathroom. In the bathroom of this restaurant there was a stall with a sign stating "do not enter this stall - EVER, thanks, Joey's". The door was open and inside was the nastiest thing I have ever seen - the toilet AND the stall probably has not been cleaned for at least a month or two. The stench was horrendous. After seeing this I felt sick to my stomach - if this is what the PUBLIC bathroom looked like I can only imagine how dirty the kitchen is. We felt so sick to our stomachs we didnt even stay the whole time at the concert. I am a germophobe who as it is has anxiety about eating at restaurants. This just threw me over the edge. I talked to the head office manager/owner, whatever, and he was very upset about this restaurant and said he would fix the issue and follow up with me. He was very understanding and from this conversation, I will continue to go to Joey's Only - but just not at this restaurant. read more

I was shocked by the mediocre rating for this Joey's. We have eaten here since it opened about 20 years ago. There was a period a few years back when the quality faltered, but the new management is carrying on the original tradition. The decor has been updated, the meals are fantastic and very reasonably priced. I must admit I'm partial to the 2 or 3 piece fish and chips which make up 99% of our orders. If you get that fish and chip craving as we often do, you can't go wrong with this restaurant. The food is always piping hot. It is the place to go! Although there is a variety seafood, stick with the standard fish and chips for your first visit. Another reason we stay with the standard fare is that they use Alaskan pollock, which is one of the world's most sustainable fisheries. They lied to us, they didn't honour the birthday deal, and when they directed us to head office, even the head office lied. Went in on a Tuesday for the All-you-can-eat special, choice of Pollock or Cod. Only ended up having 4 pieces with fries before I was full and I was pretty hungry coming in. Ordered an iced tea which never fell below half full before getting whisked away to be refilled. Like the ambience of the place too, it seems nicer than the two Joey's in my hometown. I'm not in this part of the city often but I would definitely stop in again. read more

Very unsatisfied with the food. The waitress was really kind and nice however, the manager hid behind her as my grandmother asked for her money back on one meal that was so greasy it could soak a napkin. She sent the whole thing back after 2 bites and didnt ask for anything else. well... they asked her to still pay 10%. We declined because she shouldn't have to pay for something she didn't eat. So they then offered 25%. FINE WHATEVER! WE JUST WONT COME BACK. I used to work in a kitchen so i know deep fried food and her food seemed like it was sitting somewhere cold off to the side and then later deep fried again. My salmon burger was also so sloppy and the bun was wet. What a turn off. I ate what i could of the cold fries and said screw it. read more

Food was good and timely; however, we came in soon after it opened at around 1130 am on a Friday and the first thing we noticed was the smell. They had the cleaning supplies closet open and the smell from the open closet wafted into the rest of the restaurant making the whole restaurant smell like a washroom! My wife and I felt grossed out but eventually the smell went away (about 30 minutes later). We decided to stay and "tough it out" since we were already hungry. People go to restaurants for the experience as much as the food. Our experience definitely suffered because of the smell. Yuck! read more
