I had my first session with Johana a couple days ago - I went to her because I'm (still) having a consistent dull pain through my neck, shoulder and radiating down my arm, making me feel like I have a dead arm; with her ad saying that she does Swedish deep tissue massage and all the great reviews I thought she would be able to help me feel better. Unfortunately, that was not the case - her pressure was so hard it was uncomfortable and not relaxing at all, and at times she didn't use enough oil or lotion and was pulling my skin. Before we started the massage I told her what my issue was but it was not addressed and I had to ask her to work on it before turning me over. I'm almost sorry that I did - the pressure and technique she used was hard and vigorous when it needed to be slow and deep. As a massage therapist myself with over 20 years experience I know there is a difference between deep tissue massage and just being hard - real deep tissue massage needs to slow to be able to work through tissue rather than just vigorously pushing in really hard; I felt like she wasn't reading my body at all and in my experience you can tell if you're paying attention. I was looking forward to a Swedish deep tissue massage that would help me feel better, not a Thai massage - I don't like Thai massage and if that's what I wanted I would've gone to a Thai place and paid less. I ended up leaving feeling beat up (she literally pounded on me a couple of times), not relaxed and still in pain with added pain of feeling bruised by the super hard pressure. My neck/shoulder/arm issue is still bothering me today, along with still feeling bruised. The good part of the session was the amazing stretches she does - Johana is tiny but mighty and puts a lot into her work. I was apprehensive in doing this review because Johana is a professional, sweet lady with great positive energy and is skilled - with her stretches being her strong suit; that's why I gave her 3 stars. I wish I had better things to say and Im bummed because I really like Johana as a person and would love for her to be my consistent massage therapist but unfortunately, it just wasn't the massage for me read more

Great work from Johana! She got the kinks out of my neck, shoulders and hips with a combination of massage and stretching, I felt great during and after. I do a lot of typing, sports and weight lifting and she has really helped me recover and feel more flexible. read more

I was desperate to find someone to fix me. My lower back, hips, feet, felt SO tight! I couldn't even get out of bed without it being a project. I knew that I seriously needed a professional massage therapist to help me. I saw Johana's Yelp reviews and so I called in the morning. I was very fortunate that she was able to fit me in her schedule. You can tell when we met, she has a very good aura, was very comfortable to be around and asked me questions on where I had my problems and got to work. Wow! She stretched, pulled, pushed, stepped on me, massaged, she hit every spot and understood my issue. When our session was finished I got up feeling lighter, less toxic like my muscles can breathe again. I could actually move. She honestly saved me. First, let me just say that I seldom post reviews. And I would only post a review if something is either extraordinarily bad or flat out spectacular. So by my five star rating you can figure out where I'm going. As a fan of massages, I probably get more than my fair share. Not counting the occasional foot massage and pedicure (hey, I like to relax every now and then) , I would say that I'm getting massages about three times a month. I live in Studio City, and without exaggeration you can't walk two blocks without seeing three or more massage studios. And so those are where I have usually stopped into. I've had some bad massage experiences but for the most part, I've been a happy customer in my little neighborhood. It's safe to say that I know what makes a really good massage. I had heard about Johana through Yelp and though I was not that into the idea of driving the whopping 4 miles to her studio :-D, I thought why not, let's see what the talk is all about. Change it up a bit. I can say that this was quite definitley the best massage I have ever received!!! And I've had well over a hundred. I needed a mix of Thai and Swedish and plain old feel good. I'm not sure what I got, but I know I don't think I can go to anyone else again. Holy S**T! My body was stretched in ways I didn't know were possible and NO...it wasn't that painful. Johana is something like a cross between an MD, a chiropractor and a holistic practitioner. She offers a deep tissue massage including stretching of joints into amazing angular extents. Having seen multiple massage therapists over the years for sciatica and arthritis pain, I was expecting to just feel "a little better" afterward. However, after getting my first massage from Johana I felt completely refreshed, both physically and mentally. Where do I start??? Johana is a true healer in every sense of the word. She is not only a professional but has great energy and is very polite and clear with her techniques. I have been getting massages on a monthly basis ever since having minor lower back surgery (sciatica related) in 2010 and I must say it's not easy to find someone who you can trust on your first visit. Upon arriving, we discussed areas for her to target and discussed the type of surgery I had in addition to my daily activities. Her unique style is perfect for me since I prefer a combination of stretching and massage. Throughout the entire session she made it clear for me to communicate to her if she was pushing my body too much, which I really appreciate. A lifesaver! I've had wrist problems from countless hours of sitting at my computer and Johana was able to help alleviate most of the pain whenever it was at its worst. Aside from focusing on my wrists, she knows how to give a great massage in general. There have been a couple of times where I've found myself on the verge of sleeping because I felt so relaxed from her massage, something I've never experienced with any other massuer/masseuse I've tried. She tells you about any stretches/movements before she starts doing them, so she can be relatively gentle when you're muscles are sensitive (like my wrists and, more recently, a very sore calf/hamstring) or she can stretch you to your limit if you want a great, relaxing, full body massage. All I have to say is that my sciatica pain (for over 4 weeks) is gone! I have tried everything to clear this (stretching, energy work, massage, yoga) and apparently all i needed was one session with Johana. Just being able to wake up a pain free is priceless. I would have paid double had she been able to guarantee my pain would be gone. Thank God she is not expensive. Truly undercharges so instead, I just tipped her 50%. Well worth it to be pain free! Johana's work is phenomenal! She leaps on and off the table like a strong little spider monkey and I love it. I am a bodyworker so I need a lot of bodywork and after neglecting myself for far too long, Johana helped reset my body. Her blend of Thai, Swedish, and Deep Tissue got me loose and limber again and broke up any tissues that were no longer necessary. A great healer does not heal the body, but skillfully offers to the body the tools needed for it to heal itself and now that Johana does just that. She does not beat and bludgeon, but she will teach your body about its boundaries and bring awareness to what needs more attention and care. If I lived in the area I would see her every week, especially when I'm feeling too lazy for a strenuous yoga session because, MAN, she really restored my flexibility and mobility. We called Johana out for a massage for both my wife and myself, on the recommendation of a friend. We were indeed far from disappointed. Johana gave great massages to both of us, and we prefer different pressures. This was not a problem at all. She worked areas that "felt" tight and treated areas of minor discomfort. She was very caring and responsive and an extremely positive, nurturing therapist. We have a great many therapists over the years, and Johana, is by far, the best we have had.
