Dr Vairo doesn't have time to discuss treatment options with you. It doesn't matter if you have a specific issue and need help. The goal is to use up your insurance for everything possible, and you don't even get to talk to the dentist. After taking all the possible X-rays from all your mouth from every possible angle and a 3 minute visit from Dr. Vairo when your mouth is wide open, the doctor disappears and a not so polite nurse quotes the doctor. Congratulations, Dr. Vairo, for being the single worst dental experience I've had in my entire life! Honestly, this place deserves 0 stars. So, to somewhat shorten a very long story: When I first moved to Gainesville almost 3 years ago, my coworker highly recommended I visit Dr. Vairo for my next dental cleaning, so I made an appointment. At the time I was working for the University of Florida and had somewhat better insurance than my current crappy Gator Grad Care. When I made the appointment one of Dr. Vairo's employees asked for my insurance information and then confirmed to me over the phone I was covered. The day of the appointment I checked in and filled out the standard first time patient paperwork, and I again gave the lady at the front desk my insurance information. There didn't seem to be any problems until halfway through my cleaning when the receptionist came into the room and told me that she actually wasn't sure my insurance would be accepted by Dr. Vairo (Yes, this is one week after I was told by the same lady that my insurance was accepted). Maybe I should have gotten up and left right then and there, but I was literally in the middle of getting my teeth cleaned, and the incompetent lady told me "not to worry;" she would go back and double check and let me know if something was wrong. Basically, she made it sound like everything would be fine. Of course, everything wasn't. When it was time to go, the receptionist told me that my insurance would not be accepted and that I would have to pay full price for the cleaning, examination, and x-rays. This review is getting way too long, so to wrap things up, I did pay the amount in full, but when I called several days later (and then several more days later), I received the worst customer service of my life. Not only did Dr. Vairo not have the courtesy to call me back himself, the office manager, who I'd never spoken with and who was not present during my examination or my check-in, tried (unsuccessfully) to handle the situation by telling me there was nothing she could do, and no, I would not be getting a full or partial refund. In sum, if Dr. Vairo was the very last dentist in the world and all of my teeth were rotting and falling out of my mouth, I still wouldn't come here. read more

I have had an excellent experience with this dentistry. I am a new patient and received an exam and cleaning today. I have had two previous dentists in Gainesville, and this by far is the best! #1 Customer Satisfaction - is very important to them. Throughout the appt., they communicated with me about what they were doing and what needed to be done. They took the time to see if I had any questions and listened. #2 Short Wait Time - It may not always happen, but I experienced a very short wait time today #3 Efficient - they were very thorough with their work and documentation #4 Insurance - checking insurance and coverage is a priority to them. They want their patients covered and do everything they can to ensure that they are (to address the issues in previous reviews) #5 Location - their office is easy to get to and easy to park. This is the best location that I have found. I am so happy that I found this dentistry in Gainesville and highly recommend it to everyone who has insurance that covers the work done. read more

My husband was referred here and I took him there several times. The doctor and staff always treated us with respect. We never had a problem. Husband died in 2016 otherwise he would still be gong here. read more

I have never had a bad experience at this Dentist. I verify my insurance through my insurance company before seeing any provider. The previous reviews do not do justice to the patient care received here. I am a school board employee and they do accept my dental plan here. I have terrible anxiety about going to the Dentist. I have seen each doctor here and I have always felt confident that I was in good hands. I get several opportunities to confirm my appointment as the date gets near through phone and email. The receptionists are always pleasant and professional and let me know what my insurance will and won't cover. Each cleaning has been pain free and pleasant. I just had two fillings today and Dr. Vairo did a great job even though it was obvious I was nervous. My 10 year old son has been going here since he was 5 just for cleanings and I am allowed to sit with him. He has always received great care each visit as well. If you're like me and dread going to the dentist and are anxious, I highly recommend Dr. Vairo and his associate Dr. G. You won't regret it! read more

Well, to start, my review is for Dr. John Vairo's office in Gainesville, florida. Okay, let me start by stating that I had been a patient of Dr. Vairo for many years and had some work done by both him and another dentist in the office many years ago and hadn't had any problems, then one night I flossed and out popped my crown that I had done at another dentist (about a year prior). First thing in the morning I called his office to ask what I could do about it and was told that because his office hadn't done the crown, too bad and I would need to purchase a new one (by the way $500.00 with my insurance), I pleaded and was still told basically, too bad. After discussing it with my husband he told me to call again so the following day I called again and asked the receptionist/whomever she was to please ask someone in the office if it could be temporarily fixed or anything, she came back with the answer once again of no, because he hadn't done it and it was over 1 year old. I did not have the money to fix it, so there I was without a crown. I went in 3 months later for my usual free cleaning (one every 6 months), and my dental hygenist (Natalie) asked my about my missing crown and why I hadn't come in, I told her what I had been told, then she said that No, he could have repaired it, then brought in the dentist. He told me that yes indeed he could have repaired it. I was furious, because conveniently it had been 3 months now, my teeth would have shifted and I could no longer have the old crown put back on. Then they walk me out to the girl which they had me confront (very professional) while she tries to slyly get out of what she told me, but it was quite obvious she had told me that. Her answer was pretty much, "sorry", and that was that. Okay, so 2 years passed without us going in for our regular cleaning because I was still very angry, but we needed a cleaning. So, we go in for our regular free cleaning (same insurance Blue life/dental), got our Xrays, and cleaning. All was well I thought until I receive a bill for $194.00, surprise, we had been charged for a comprehensive exam (mind you, the dentist came in for about 5 minutes as he always had), and had been charged for a partial cost of our Xrays because now our deductible had kicked in, which does not kick in with cleaning and Xrays. Well, our insurance only allows us ONE in a lifetime comprehensive exam (nothing comprehensive about our appointment AT ALL), and now our deductible was kicking in as we were being charged full price for our deductible and for our comprehensive exam. They knew our insurance only allowed for one exam, but I guess since they hadn't made any money off of us for over 2 years they were going to get it out of us one way or another. After speaking with the office staff person, she basically pretended she would help, but did nothing and 2 months later we owe all of the money, basically, once again, too bad! I asked her if the dentist walking into the room was considered a comprehensive exam, and she stated no, then I asked why we were being charged for this, and she had no answer other than again, pretty much, too bad. So much for our FREE 6 month cleaning and Xrays. I am disgusted with them, and am very sorry that I ever gave them another chance after their prior ripping off move. Beware, and find another dentist. There will be some surprise you won't see coming with this office. I would like to note that about 6 years ago, they had it together, now it's an extremely poorly run office, and the patient pays for it, literally! read more
