I was told by Mary, the dental hygienist, that I needed a "deep cleaning" for periodontal issues and that it would only cost me $40 per visit, in addition to my copay. I have never been diagnosed with PD in my years of going to various dentists. She then spent 15 minutes cleaning my teeth with the Cavitron then irrigated my gums with an antibiotic liquid. There was no deep scaling, no x-ray, no exam by a dentist. I paid my bill, as we agreed, and was told that I owed nothing more. However, I received a huge bill for these services, as my insurance refused the "up-charges". I subsequently went to another dentist, paid out of pocket for the care, and was given a full exam, x-rays, etc. and was told that there was no evidence of "periodontal disease" and that deep-cleaning was not needed. Additionally, the new dentist said that a true "deep-cleaning" involved one or two 2-4 hour cleaning sessions, for which I would need my gums to be numbed, it was so painful. I'm here to say, #1, Gainesville Dental Associates will up-charge you for a "deep-cleaning", without a exam or x-rays, then send you an outrageous bill which is far more than agreed upon during the visit. #2. Their billing clerk will not come to the phone to discuss the charges. #3. Wait until you see how much they bill your insurance for, all the charges. When your insurance refuses to pay for this stacked bill, you will be stuck with the unpaid portion. The office takes no responsibility and will not discuss further. Find an honest dentist practice.
