I love dipping fries, and there were so many tasty sauces to try. Legit tempted to go back, order twice the fries, and just pig out! Only reason for taking off a star is that I found the ordering sort of awkward. Was trying to customize an item due to dietary restrictions and had a hard time getting what I wanted. Maybe they were just too busy, or I wasn't being clear. Probably not their fault, but it sort of ruined the mood for me. Great burger and cool store! Came on a Sunday afternoon for lunch, split a burger and fries with my husband. The burger was massive so plenty to split. It had a great bun and a delicious burger sauce. Definitely a smash burger style. Fries were a little soggy for my taste but still good. The menu is small with only about 3 other sandwiches, I think this burger is the main reason to come! The store itself is small but has a few craft food items like smaller batch chips, chocolates, assorted ingredients, and of course, a butchery. Off the beaten path but worth the drive. Located at a cross roads, in an old house (maybe a former tavern or general store, this place does not disappoint. We were able to find a table to eat in. The dining area is cozy with a fireplace and shelves full of stoneware, bowls, and other kitchenwares for purchase. We ordered the cheeseburger, hot chicken sandwich and fries. The burger was cooked perfectly with the in-house made burger sauce. My husband lived the thigh chicken meat buffalo sandwich. The buffalo chicken was not overly spicy but provided a nice heat. Fries were crispy and perfectly seasoned. On our way out we bought an American Waygu Denver steak, tallow, and lard which we cannot find at our local butcher. The steak cooked nicely in our cast iron but it was not a buttery or melt in your mouth as Japanese A5. I also recommend stopping by the coffee shop for a cup and pastries. I love it here! The burgers are one of the best around and the French fries are best if eaten right away with your burger! Also, they have a nice meat selection for all your butcher needs. It's pricey but it's local and without all the hormones and crap you get at the regular grocery store. So, totally worth it in my opinion. The staff is amazing and I always feel welcomed and taken care of. It's a cute general store and has some great local/regional finds from smaller companies that you might not come across elsewhere. This was my first visit to John Brown General and Butchery. I called in my order and it was ready for pickup when I arrived. There a variety of things in the shop and it had a home-y and quaint vibe. The indoor seating was filled but I was able to sit outside. It was a sunny day so I didn't mind. There are plenty of tables out back as well. My sandwich was delicious. The bread was focaccia and it was buttery and fresh. The fries were delicious too. There weren't a lot of drink options but I was happy with my root beer. I was really sad when JBGB's closed in Remington, but I recently learned that their original location - John Brown General and Butchery - is just a few minutes from my office! I stopped by last week for lunch and had a great experience. It's a general - a general store - so it has lots of great products (French mustards, chips, cheese, some fresh produce, eggs, spices, etc.) if you're cooking! It's also a butcher shop, and their products at the butcher counter looked great. I was there for a quick lunch to go though. They have a small menu of sandwiches (an Italian cold cut sandwich, a buffalo chicken sandwich, and a cheeseburger), and a special sandwiches that changes up! The special of the week this week was a Chicken Caesar Wrap, but normally isn't that exciting . But the staff at the register (where you order and pay for your sandwiches) recommended it, and I'm so glad I followed their lead. What a wrap - grilled wrap, lots of dark meat chicken, great Caesar dressing! The shop is really cute and has a large seating area in the back if you want to eat your sandwich in. OMGGGG the food here is SOOO GOOD. Their smash burger is unreal and the Italian cold cut on focaccia is my all time fav. Plus the meat they sell is so good!!! Tried the ground beef, the sausages, and the corned beef and it amazed me how much better this high quality meat made the final dishes. The vibe is so cool (check out all the fun stuff they sell in the market section!!) and everyone here is so friendly. Everyone really knows what they're talking about so they can give you great recommendations (what to have for lunch, cuts of meat, a fun snack for the road, etc.). I've only visited twice because of the distance however, I considered going there today to get one of their delicious burgers! I usually get a double. It's a smash burger thats super tasty and likely attributed to coming from the butcher to the grill. Oh! Their chia tea is the best I've had. We were nearby and having our taxes done, and since we were in the area and hungry, it was an opportunity to stop in It is easy to find and parking was no problem . How they do things there is a bit different from the usual restaurants. As you enter, the deli is on the right, and they work with meats. The store portion is central to the room. And you order off the menu to the left of the door. When your order is ready, they call your name, and there you have it, all bagged up. I ordered that day's special, open faced roast beef that comes with a slice of bread on the bottom, a layer of fresh cut French fries, with some of the tenderest med rare roast beef (very well seasoned) ever then topped with some gravy. The gravy was not beef gravy! It was delicious, none the less. I would really like to have this on a plate instead of in the little brown box. My husband ordered the italian Cold Cut sandwich minus the Capicola, and he told the young lady who takes your order several times, no Capicola. Nothing hot. Well, they left it out and did not replace it with something else. They did leave in hot peppers. This was on focacia, which was very fresh. All in all, it was a wet sub from all the dressing. We ate in the back room where the Old Country Store decor continues, and it is set up with some tables and chairs. They have liquor and wines on shelves that you can buy. Have to admit, I have never heard of any of these brands. Everything seems to be pricy. When we finished, we went to the coffee shop, you order at the door, never to enter the room where the coffees were brewed. I've been driving by this place for years and was curious about what magic might be found inside. When I learned that my friend's local Apple Falls honey is available for purchase here, I made it a point to visit. What a charming little market with butcher cuts proudly on display and lots of local products and foods. The cashier was extremely enthusiastic and helpful. I asked about the coffee shop next door, and she told me I was welcome to grab coffee and pastries then return here to sit in the air conditioning. So kind. She showed me the Apple Falls honey and got excited talking about the honeycomb they sometimes sell here. Sounded delicious! Five-star service. This spot is a bit of a hike from us but we decided to drive out and try their lunch. To clarify, the kitchen for lunch closes at 2:30 although the butcher shop/market are open til 6. We got here around 2:15 and still a bit of traffic (their smaller lot was full). We ordered for pickup and it was seamless. Had to try the Cheeseburger given positive reviews "one of the top Bmore burgers billing." We got the Double and patties were cooked closer to medium. House ground beef was tasty with the Mac sauce giving it a slight kick. Something was a bit salty for me and couldn't make out if it was the beef or sauce. Burger looked small at first but 8 oz for the double is substantial. The Nashville Hot Chicken (Buffalo) was tender with a just right crispy crust. Had a subtle spicy flavor. French Fries we're sold out-appears this happens often on the later side of lunch so we'll have to get here sooner next time. They had a nice picnic area (backyard) in the back with mature tree cover as well some outside seating in the front next to the coffee shop. The meat market was impressive. (Dry Aged Steak also!) Steaks looked amazing and Wagyu Hot Dogs?! Saw Curry Ketchup in the market area that had a good selection of condiments and dressings. They also have house cured Deli Meats (Mortadella, Gourmet Salami, Chorizo to name a few) Service was friendly and engaging from walk-in to exit. & yes the Burger was one of the best I've had in this area. I had heard some really great things about John Brown General and Butchery and to say they lived up to the expectations and then some would be an understatement. I became of John Brown's existence because a page that I follow on Instagram highlighted them for their burgers, fries, and their Buffalo Chicken sandwich, even going as far as saying that it's the best burger in the Maryland/DC area. Well, as a proud burger aficionado, who prides himself on being the best burger aficionado on the planet(exaggerating) I can honestly say that they are right. For starters, I had no idea how neat, organized, and clean a butcher shop could be. I mean, this place had everything! The meats on display looked delicious, they have all kinds of steak, and everything looked fresh. The staff was really nice upon entering as well, so that's always a plus. I ordered exactly what the Instagram page suggested - the Double Cheese Burger with Mac sauce, and the Buffalo Chicken sandwich. I wanted to take one star off of my review because they ran out of fries, but truthfully, that burger was so good that I couldn't do it. The beef was so delicious! It just had this freshness that's difficult to explain. My wife is not nearly as big of a burger fanatic as I am and she even commented that it was the best burger she ever had and the buffalo chicken sandwich was equally as impressive, it wasn't too spicy, came with ranch on top, and both sandwiches came with delicious breaded pickles. What made it even better was we literally waited maybe 6 or so minutes and our meal was packaged and prepared for us to eat. Great customer service. Great atmosphere. Clean. Efficient. I'm personally not a fan of cold cut but the sub bread was excellent! The cheeseburger was cooked nicely but I will say it tasted a little bland and the buns on that and the chicken parm wasn't my favorite. The butchers behind the counter are extremely knowledgeable and are more than ready to offer recommendations when making your meat choices. Outside of the fantastic selection of freshly cut meats, JB has an amazing lunch service. Using their in house meats, they have 3 daily sandwiches as well as a special that changes weekly. All 3 sandwiches tasted amazing, emphasizing the meat quality used in each sandwich. First time visiting JBGB after driving past it in the area for years and boy have I been missing out! This is a small family owned store that sell's unique goods, amazing food, and fresh butchered meats. The cabin like decor is trendy and there is an area in the back to eat with chairs and utensils - they even have a small sauce station so you can try out sauces with your food and can be purchased in the front of the store. They sell canned beer but not on Sundays. Also have other things like pickles, spices, chips, fresh produce, and canned items. We ordered a burger, fries, and their weekly special of pulled pork. The food was out of this world and the service was spectacular. Everyone who works there is nice and has a smile on their face. It is a corner filled with a Coffee Shop in a former gas station; Hedgerow, a gift shop specializing in unique gifts, homewares, and antiques etc.; and the General Store and Butchery. The general store and butchery has everything from grocery items, specialty items, all kinds of meat and chicken, wine and spirits, and cheeses. It was fun to just look around at all they had to offer. We met friends for lunch. The menu is very limited - just 3 sandwiches - French fries and a special sandwich that changes each week. You place your order with the cashier. The cashier and all the staff were very friendly. They have a very small dining area in the rear of the store and some outside seating. In looking at the beef that was displayed, my husband and I ordered the hamburger, our friends had the Buffalo Chicken Sandwich and the Special Hot Dog. The burgers were cooked perfectly - we asked for the Big Mac sauce on the side and to leave off the mustard. The only thing I did not like were the very spicy bread and butter pickles that were on the burger. Our friend said that the Buffalo Chicken Sandwich was too spicy for him - he could not finish it. The Three Dog Night hot dog was the bomb - it was a big dog loaded with chili, cheese sauce, sauerkraut and stadium mustard. The French fries were crispy and hot. The sandwiches and fries came in paper boxes, which none of us cared for. We would have liked to have a plate to put them on - they were really messy. Additionally, the napkins were very flimsy. All in all, my husband and I felt it was pricey for what we received - $32.75 for two burgers, an order of French fries, and a mini Diet Coke. Very impressed with everything here. The aesthetic, selection, quality, and cleanliness. Knowledgeable staff and very friendly as well. We got the liver sandwich weekly special with the fries (which you get a ton of, btw!) and it was delicious, well-seasoned, and cooked to perfection. The meat selection is great and even saw a long lost linguica from my childhood trips to southern MA in there. We ended up with some cherry pate and the charcoal sausage. Loved both of them and can't wait to go back to try other products. They've also got a great selection for your pantry with various cooking ingredients. Further back into the store where the seating is, there's a curated selection of liquors and wines as well. Outside seating is also available, which is an added touch for nice days. Now, this is often overlooked and understated when I do see it but they've got a really great bathroom. It's clean, rustic yet modern looking, nice product all around, and smelled fantastic.
