I really do not like DENTISTS! My past experiences (for over 60 years) have not been good ones - until a neighbor told me about Dr. Castillo! He is very nice and he does not tell you that you need to spend money on all new fillings, or unnecessary bridges, ect! He is conservative, and spends time talking to you. His dental hygienist is great, as well! Very nice and friendly. I will definitely be a client and happily refer him to others. read more

I'm new to SoCal and put a shout out to my SoCal facebook friends for some dentist recommendations. got 7 and decided to go with Dr. Castillo based on the strong recommendation of my friend. I was feeling pain in my lower right jaw/tooth area. I've had some major fillings and thought a previous filling got loose/shrunk causing the pain. My criteria for selecting health care/service providers are: expertise and background, responsiveness of staff, demeanor of doc and staff and cost (I don't have dental insurance). Brand and technology are important but not deal breakers. I highly recommend Dr. Castillo for the following reasons: his staff was caring, responsive, and made sure I was comfortable. The office has super cool xray technology so you can view your xrays on a screen with the doc. (blow up shots, rotate, etc) Dr. Castillo made decisions with me for my care instead of pressuring me to perform work that may not have been necessary. I usually seek out a 2nd and sometimes even 3rd opinion with major health care but I truly truly felt he had my best interest in mind. His logic in how to treat my pain made a lot of sense, not jumping to conclusions or prematurely requiring root canal or other work based on assumptions but took the time to investigate to find the true cause of my pain. Thank God I found this amazing Dentist. After going in to my regular dentist office for a regular check up I came out off my regular dentist office with an proposal of $2600.00 in dental work and cleaning that they wanted to do. So I was not happy with that so I went ahead and looked for a second opinion and that's when I found this amazing dentist. Dr. Castillo and his staff took the time to do a thorough examination and after they explained that a couple minor things that he recommended that I need it done and it was no $2600.00 or even close. Thank you Dr. Castillo and your staff for all that you guys do I will recommend you guys to anyone who's looking for a honest dentist. I write this with heavy heart as Dr Castillo is a very friendly attentive dentist. I am 61 now and had porcelain overlays done to 6 front teeth at 30. Nothing wrong but a chipped tooth and Dr Wodisky suggested porcelain. His work held up beautifully and lasted 25 Years! I had to redo because of time I chose dr Castillo because he was so close to my work. Less than 5 Years and all of his work including crowns are going south. He told me I will go to the grave with his work. NO WAY, I will most likely be getting all of these front teeth replaced with implants. He grounded my existing teeth to tiny nubs that are deteriorating behind the porcelain. My dentist said he should have wrapped the whole tooth in porcelain because of the little tooth enamel left to hold up over time. This would have kept my teeth to my grave. Basically my healthy Mediterranean diet is the worst for teeth with barely any protective enamel left. I was astonished to see the nub and the overlay came off because tooth is crumbling! I'm sick about this. As far as other work, I paid 8,000 for a root canal and cap. Plus another replacement cap for another thousand. Both are not good. Cap popped off and tooth structure not supportive enough to redo. Other cap has leaky margins which allows for decay! I'm pretty sure this dentist received approximately $18,000 to $20k for all of this work that is all in disrepair. I would go back but when a root canal didn't work and I had to return 3 times for missed root removal, he charged me every time. I asked his receptionist how much in total did my insurance and my out of pocket end up paying for that tooth....$8,000. Absurd. Plus there was nothing wrong with tooth just an old filling came out. He drilled and dug around for a 1/2 hour and filled it and I was in so much pain he had to root canal it! Also when the insurance reimbursed them for some of my out of pocket, they held on to it. I couldn't believe she held on to $900 of my money. Her explanation was she kept it to apply to any future work. I truly do not know how much in the end insurance reimbursed because they provide no paper trail or charges in the mail. I talked to a few of his clients who I knew as friends and they had experienced a similar attitude as far as there not taking financial responsibility for there work that was not done correctly in the first place. My $8,000 filling gone south was an eye opener. read more

I have been fighting severe sleep apnea for close to 15 years that I can count, and didn't even know what it was. It has been escalating over the past year possibly due to age and hormones shifts because now I am 47 and I have a five-year-old daughter. When she out grew her naps mom is still needed naps so I knew something was wrong. I'd have this weird feeling that I had ants crawling through my hair, distraction, irritation and that feeling like I had been shot in the back with the tranquilizer gun and I would slowly start to fatigue out to the point where I had to lay down and take a nap. Toward the very end of this it would be anywhere from 2 hours to 5 hours every single day totally lost to an unknown enemy. I would also have to get up to use the restroom every hour, all night long. Some nights I would wake up choking and out to breath with my chest hurting and my heart pounding as though I had a heart attack. I had gone to endocrinologist and all hormones were normal, I'd also gone to neurologist and had MRI an EEG work done with all normal. I didn't have pain but rather weird chronic feelings that would recycle every single day and no one seemed to know what they were. The neurologist did verify I had some migraine syndrome causing all of the disruption upset and fatigue. I reached out to dr. John Castillo and dr. Chris at Somnomed and was diagnosed with sleep apnea, and they explained that the apnea is oxygen deprivation and the leading domino causing the migraine syndrome. He had me measured for a retainer and they were right! Day one I found relief. He even gave me a temporary for a couple weeks while I waited for mine to be built. The temporary one even gave relief of about 70% the first day! Once I got the final one that was made, I have yet to have any more migraine symptoms or extreme fatigue. Now the days fly by and I have energy to do what a normal person at my age would be doing. I realize at nightfall, that I never needed a nap that day! No weird ants in the hair feeling, nothing!
