I rarely write reviews. And it took me some time to assemble this because the process was so…read moreinvolved. But I finally figured out how to share my experience, breaking it up into phases. I'm in my 50s, do some on-camera work, and I'm a bit of a perfectionist. I'm also very demanding with my providers (doctors, lawyers, accountants, etc.). For years, I disliked the puffiness around my upper and lower eyes. Over a two-year period, I did exhaustive research, watched every YouTube video available, and consulted with multiple Beverly Hills doctors multiple times. Ultimately, I chose Dr. Zoumalan because of his detailed approach, his recommendation NOT to do certain elements of the procedure even though he could have charged me for them, and his generally caring vibe. Even though I returned for three separate consultations and asked endless repeat questions, Dr. Zoumalan was always open, honest, and patient. He meticulously explained how my natural facial structure, fat and skin would play a part in the symmetry, and showed me various recovery scenarios. Pre-op Preparing for the procedure was nerve-wracking for me, but the process was really well organized. I followed their instructions to the letter: cut out alcohol for two weeks, started a low-salt diet a few days prior, sent in photos of my younger self for reference, and got clearance from an optometrist and my primary care physician, which was necessary given my age. A quick shoutout to the staff who were very friendly and never made me feel like I was bothering them with so many follow-up questions: * Rania handled scheduling and pricing. She held my hand throughout the process. * Elioza was super helpful and supportive at the front desk whenever I needed to talk to someone. * Michelle handled all my pre-op care. Really kind and thorough. Surgery I arrived early in a Lyft. The procedure room was very clean and well decorated. Once in the room where they checked my vitals and I was waiting to be taken into the operating room, the "calming" music actually started to make me anxious. When I mentioned it, they kindly switched it right away. Dr. Zoumalan came in for some final measurements and explained (once again) how everything would go during the procedure and what the recovery scenarios would be like the first few days afterward. Once in the operating room, the anesthesiologist cracked a few jokes, and I went right to sleep. When I woke up, my eyes felt a little crusty, and I needed ointment on my eyelids to open them up, which was mentioned up front. My vision was a little blurry. But I was incredibly relieved to feel no pain. And looking in the mirror, I was surprised to see that the incisions and stitching looked a lot less red or puffy than I'd imagined. Procedures * Upper and Lower Eyelids (Blepharoplasty) * Ptosis Repair to correct eyelid drooping. * Mid-Face Fat Grafting to address hollowness under my eyes and around my cheeks. (Looking back at old photos, this restored much of the cheek volume I had 20 years ago) * CO2 Laser Treatment to improve overall skin texture below the eyes. Recovery My wife picked me up, also noting that I looked better than she'd expected. And just like the pre-op instructions, I strictly followed the recovery sheet to the letter. Lots of ice packs, on and off. And all the medications I needed were included. * Days 1-2: As often as possible, I rested with my eyes closed, listening to music and I think one audiobook. I felt independent enough to manage my own medications and ice packs by the second day. * Day 6 (Stitch Removal): I experienced surprisingly minimal bruising--likely thanks to arnica and consistent icing. When they handed me the mirror after stitch removal, I could already see how the results would likely play out. However, as Dr. Z had prepped me for, one eye had a different swelling pattern than the other. * Day 9 (Social Outing): I reluctantly attended a crowded neighborhood birthday party (my wife forced me), wearing sunglasses and keeping a safe distance from flying balls or running kids. Surprisingly, no one noticed I had surgery. * 1 to 3 Months: The reduction of swelling went according to plan. While I checked back with Dr. Zoumalan a few times to ensure the uneven swelling between the two eyes was normal (which it completely was), the symmetry played out just as prescribed. Results The number one thing I feared was scarring, but Dr. Zoumalan's incisions and stitching were completely on point. By month one, the scars were barely visible. And I developed no keloids. Another special shout-out goes to Eva, their injector, who administered my Botox about 3 months after the procedure. Once my eyes were refreshed, I wanted my forehead skin to match it. After all of it, I still look completely like myself, but about 15 years younger. Now nine months out, the results continue to improve ever so slightly every month. I couldn't recommend Dr. Zoumalan and his team more highly. 10/10.

Rania was absolutely amazing. She was so warm, down to earth, and kind. She made me feel like I had known her for years. She took the time to answer every question and made me feel like a queen throughout the entire process. The team worked with me every step of the way-financially, medically, and aesthetically, making sure I felt confident and supported in every decision. Dr. Zoumalan is truly a brilliant surgeon! You can tell he genuinely loves what he does and is passionate about helping his patients achieve beautiful, natural results. His excitement and dedication are evident, and the outcome exceeded all of my expectations. My friends and family cannot believe how incredible I look. The results are so natural, and I couldn't be happier. My recovery was surprisingly quick, with little to no pain, which made the entire experience even better. I also want to thank Kenia and Eliza, along with the rest of the staff. Every single person was phenomenal, kind, compassionate, and attentive. They checked on me frequently, provided excellent follow up care, and made me feel supported from beginning to end. If you're considering a procedure, I wholeheartedly recommend Dr. Zoumalan and his team. They truly provide five star care in every way and I am beyond grateful for my experience!

I regret trusting Dr. Khodabakhsh, who performed a femtolaser assisted cataract surgery on my left…read moreeye using a light adjustable lens (LAL) last year. He's supposed to be the best, but his treatment led to months of misery both for my vision and time wasted trying to get reimbursed for procedures that ended up being covered by insurance and being double billed for the lens. While my treated eye is functional, it's not optimal nor what he promised. If you see Dr. K., do not trust him that everything is out of pocket, ask him to submit insurance claims for everything even if he tells you no insurance will ever cover it (it's up to the insurance to determine that) and get a written quote for anything out of pocket. If you end up prepaying for supposedly "noncovered services," make him put in the contract that he will reimburse you the excess should insurance cover the procedure. Pay close attention to your insurance claims so you do not get double billed by Dr. K and the Surgery Center. Also, do not let Dr. K.'s office use your credit card to pay the referring optometrist. Details are as follows: 1) He convinced me to get an expensive LAL lens that would allow him to adjust my vision post-surgery if his prediction of the lens power was off pre-surgery. He did not disclose that he would be making me so farsighted after the surgery that I could not read my phone without holding it 2 feet away! He assumed I knew so he could "fix" the power later. This caused a huge problem between my normal untreated eye and the surgical eye; I ended up getting a needle stick at work a week after the surgery-Dr. K. did not care when I told him. This is not proper informed consent. He also misled me when he said I would not need glasses if I picked the LAL lens; I ended up compromising far vision to get reasonable near vision without reading glasses 2) He told me that the LAL lens, the femtolaser (instead of a traditional scalpel) and the laser treatments to adjust the lens power were not covered by insurance, quoting me $9000 (later discounted to $8000). My research showed that this was about double what others were charging. I decided to proceed since this was for my eye and he was supposed to be the "best." 3) After the surgery, I found out that my insurance covered all of what Dr. K said was out of pocket. My insurance allotted $2100 to the Surgery Center (of which Dr. K is a part owner) for my lens! That meant that I had paid for the lens twice-first to Dr. K. for the lens package before the surgery and then again as part of my coinsurance to the Surgery Center. The Surgery Center eventually gave me back the coinsurance for the lens, but Dr. K.'s office refused to submit an insurance claim for the lens and tried to prevent me from submitting my own claim by saying it would be "medical fraud" for me to claim the lens using Dr. K's tax ID #; since Dr. K did not purchase the lens directly from the manufacturer (he bought the lens from the Surgery Center), he was not allowed to bill insurance for it (but he billed me!). Fortunately, my insurance company helped me get Dr. K's tax ID # (he refused to provide it) and file the claim; insurance approved all the procedure codes (with allowable contracted amounts-about 50% of the out of pocket charge); but Dr. K never gave me back the excess out of pocket charge. 4) He has a suspicious deal with my optometrist. His surgical coordinator called me to charge my credit card $8000 the day before the surgery, but then charged $1000 on my card to my optometrist and $7000 to Dr. K's office. It made it look like I was the one paying the optometrist willingly with my credit card, circumventing the appearance of Dr. K. paying the optometrist for my referral. Dr. K's coordinator kept on trying to get me to see my optometrist for the post-op visits, but I never did. I insisted on following up with Dr. K, but his office blocked that and scheduled me with an optometrist working for Dr. K. However, even if I did see the referring optometrist post-op, he would not have been entitled to the out of pocket payment. Aftercare within 90 days post cataract surgery is covered by the insurance payment for the surgery even if it is provided by an optometrist. Seeing me for a vision check without providing laser treatment on the lens would only allow the optometrist to get paid out of the cataract surgery insurance payment, not a portion of my out of pocket payment. I confronted the referring optometrist who first tried to claim that the yearly routine vision screening paid for by my vision insurance was the "pre-op" for the cataract surgery, but then eventually gave me back the $1000 as he had not participated in the surgery/aftercare. However, he made me sign something saying it was a "system error" as his office does a lot of business/referrals with Dr. K's office. Overall, the most horrid medical experience I have ever had. Stay away unless you want to be deceived, overcharged and disregarded!
