I have been a Fluevog fan for a couple of decades and I had two pairs of vintage Angels which had 20 year old rubber soles that were disintegrated badly. I was looking for new soles and Jack was a huge help as he scoured the depths of the Fluevog store on Milwaukee Ave and found two pairs of colored soles that were the perfect size. He gave me the vision of switching from black to colored and they turned out perfect when I got them back from the cobbler (in Yorktown Mall in Lombard). Jack and the staff were so helpful, fun, and took an ownership for my situation. Now these Angels are flying again thanks to Jack and the Chicago Fluevog peeps. read more

I've walked by John Fluevog Shoes a trillion times without even going inside. Last week we were walking on by when LA Yelp Guru Stephy S squealed with delight that there was a John Fluevog Shoes in Chicago! What's the big deal you ask? These funky shoes are unlike any other shoes I've seen- gotta love those stylish heels! I was afraid to see what such funky shoes would cost, but was relieved to see they weren't too bad...most of the ones I liked were around $200. Well, besides the kick ass boots I absolutely had to have until I saw they were $500. I didn't actually try on the shoes because last week's credit card statement has scared me off from shopping for at least 3 days, but Stephy and others tell me that these shoes are not only funky, but very comfortable as well! I'm SO over uncomfortable heels and have promised my feet I won't put them through the pain anymore. So this my friends will get me shopping at John Fluevog as soon as my Visa allows it. read more

I stopped in here Friday evening, hoping the store had Zachary boots in stock. They didn't, but a guy there--I wish I knew his name so I could mention it--happily helped me get an idea of correct sizing for online ordering. Despite it being clear that I just wanted to size boots, not buy, and the presence of other customers in the store, he brought out three pairs of Derby Swirl boots for me to try on. He then offered to order the Zachary boots for me but we decided it would be best if I did that, so I could select where they shipped to. On the way home, I ordered what turned out to be the final pair of 7.5s in North America, and they arrived yesterday. I mean, yeah, I physically touched their shoes and tried not to pant too hard while in public, but really...was this place for realzzz, yo or just a fantabulous dream? The answer is kinda both and if you are a Fluevog adoring shoe slut like me, then this is your new happy place. They have it all here. High heels, kitten heels, tall boots, ankle boots, mens shoes, flats and seriously, everything in between!! Yay! I will warn you though, Fluevogs have magical powers like draining your bank account when you are near them, but it is soooo worth it. I own quite a few pairs of them and without fail, every time I wear them I get compliments and lots of them, so really it's like earning your money back with mass amounts of gratification. If your regimen is a daily dose of the High Spiky Heel, please know you are killing your feet and are on a fast track to bunions, surgery and a lifetime of Naturalizers. The styles are inspired from the era of great movies, nice clothes and ballroom dancing, updated to be suitable for seeing your favorite band or going to the office. Turn them upside-down and you might find a chunky heel in the shape of a heart. Comfortable. Oh my god, yes. Expensive, kind of, but if you like shoes that last, it's a good investment. $189 tops, with many pairs quite a bit less. Awesome space. The rooms was a movie theater for decades, and you can still try on shoes in an old, crushed-velvet movie chair. The hexagonal tile has been left alone. If nothing else, check out the bathroom. Yet again I Praise The Fluevog. I called around as I usually do, as I had explained before I had never stepped foot in a store until recently. What a pleasure it was. I normally call stores find which one has my size and have it shipped, and because I am a member of KCRW radio I get a 10% discount card. So I generally will shop for those beauties on line. It was my first visit to Chicago, I had had a pair on hold at the Chicago store that I had forgotten about and to my surprise, they still had them.. It was the last pair on earth on my size. I knew it was now or never. I went in. Which made it the second Fluevog store I have ever been in. The first was the Melrose store earlier that year, mind you I have been buying for years. Boy, I was so glad I got em'! Not only were they still there, they honored my KCRW card and gave me the 10%. If you buy Fluevog you know what 10% can mean. They are worth every penny. They will last, very comfortable for the on the feet all day person, and style for miles!!! You cant go wrong with these! Simply put - the best shoes I have ever worn. Shoes that have been gifted to man by the heavens. The most luxurious and uniquely designed, comfortable leather shoes you'll have ever set your eyes on and your feet in. Yes it's true they're pricey, but these shoes will last, and better yet impress. Not only will they amaze others with their custom lacing and patterns, but they will blow you away too. They contour to your foot's structure and make it feel like you're walking on a cloud. And to think, I only found out about this place by accident wearing my roommate's pair one evening out (the troubles... or perhaps advantages[?] of having identical feet!) Be thoughtful with your wallet though! When I walked in, I could've easily walked out with 5 pair and been down a grand. I probably wouldn't have regretted it, but the temptation is absolutely there and absolutely perilous. In the best way possible. If you are a lover of fine footwear like me, you will love this store. NOW I see what all the fuss is about. I have two girlfriends who basically swear by these shoes, and I've always secretly rolled my eyes at their obsession. Until I went in the store and saw and tried on for myself. Swoon. They had some sweet sales going on, and there was a pair of adorable green and light green sandals that I am still thinking about, even though I did not purchase them. My name is Shannon and I'm a Fluevog-aholic. I suppose the first step in recovery is acceptance. I got a pair at a local store last year and fell head over heels with these shoes. That store (Atomic City) closed in the fall, and Austin has been in Fluevog withdrawl. Unfortunately, I cannot just order online and have shoes fit me. I have a high arch and a big foot. The combination means I have to try a shoe on to see if it will work. My husband had a conference in Chicago last week and I went along with him primarily to go to this store. I bypassed souvenirs on other trips and budgeted for a year to afford to splurge here. I was going to get 3 pairs... and walked out with 5. Five pairs of shoes! I have never, ever purchased five pairs of shoes anywhere... I have never been the type of girl to go shoe shopping. It was not part of my DNA. Shoes were okay, but mostly boring. If you ask me the difference between a slingback and a strappy, I'd probably ask if they were moves in Mortal Kombat. Fluevogs are a whole other animal. They are fun, well made shoes for people who think most shoes are boring. They have a line inspired by the Munsters! Give me a shoe that looks unique that everyone stares at you and asks where they can get them. I found the staff here amazing. They left me alone for a bit while I looked around and when I said I wanted to try these 2-3 on, the sales person was absolutely phenomenal. She was very patient and I tried on about 15 pairs in total. She brought out all sorts of pairs and really focused on making sure I had the perfect fit. I was never pressured to purchase and her whole goal was to make sure I was happy. Bekkie rocks! After all the shoe trying on and fitting was over, there were about 6 pairs that fit perfectly and 2-3 more pairs that fit well. I ultimately bought 5 pairs because they all fit so well. It was a struggle to vote any of them off the island. They were all pretty shoes, but I never buy a shoe because it is pretty. Cute doesn't override blisters. When my feet are sore, I'm in a crappy mood. I'd rather be happy. These fluevogs all fit like they were made for me. So, I decided to splurge and get 5 pairs... and I don't regret it at all. These shoes will last years and probably pay for themselves since I still have my black heels from the 1990s that one of these pairs now replaced. This store completely rocks my world. Fluevog makes shoes for über glam freaky girls like me. ( and guys) I owned a few pairs, but lately I have truly become obsessed with these nonpareil designs. I think it was the amazing sale that lured me in... as in: 60% off type of unbelievable and astounding sale! The sales people here a truly caring and I have been in on an occasion " to try without the buy" and not one blinked an eye. Anyway, I have been helped by Jack, Ryan and Becky. Each have been super helpful while having to size my alien-like feet. Sui generis is the best word I can think of to describe the vog vibe. I've been wearing Fluevogs for over a decade. Their Angel Boots provided great support and comfort for my walking all over Europe without getting sore. Of the six pairs I've bought, I still wear three. The shoes generally last two to three years if you wear them nearly EVERY day. If the soles wear out they can replace them for a low cost. The shoes aren't cheap, but you get your money's worth if you wear them a lot. They often have really good sales, and there's always many funky pairs on clearance if you can find your size. This store opened a couple years ago and is a beautiful large space. The staff are always very friendly and helpful, and they sometimes give you free dum dums. read more

It was a match made in heaven when I was shopping for shoes to wear for my wedding and I found a pair of John Fluevog cherry red heels (Madly--aptly named in this case) on Zappos. They were perfect: a lot of glamour with a vixen-ish twist to peek out from under the hem of my wedding gown. Even better, I called the WP store and found they were on clearance for half price. Score! considering I can't often justify a $200+ shoe budget--even for these little pieces of walking art! Wouldn't you know I said a prayer and I bought them over the phone sight unseen without even trying them on. (The store has a no-hold policy on their shoes) The sales gal labeled my shoebox and tucked it away until I could come. She had also reassured me over the phone that if the size I bought didn't fit she still had a couple others in stock. The shoes rocked on wedding day! If you haven't been to this store you have to make a trip here. It's a bit of a pilgrimage if you have a shoe obsession. At least that's how I felt the first time I stopped in (...within my first 8 weeks of moving to Chicago). Even if you don't or won't buy the shoes you should stop in just to enjoy the artistry of the product. Honestly for the price the shoes are well made, surprisingly comfortable, and eye-catching. Fluevog's aren't new to the area--I'm surprised there aren't more Chi-town tootsies in these awesome shoes! I'm on my third pair and here's to adding to the collection! read more

Absolutely fantastic customer service. Major kudos to Rebecca and Bekkie! I've been a semi-regular windowshopper at the online store, but never set foot in the physical shop. I'd been idly lusting after the green Bondgirl boots for quite some time when, lo and behold, they went on sale. Yay: I could get them in a size larger than I normally wear (no mean feat - ha ha - for a girl who wears a size 12 shoe), which equals comfort and room for warm socks in the winter. Boo: after reading the online reviews, I realized that the boot had a narrow calf, and would most likely not fit over mine. After a crappy week, I decided to splurge on the boots anyway. I figured I'd just find a way to stretch the leather, or have an elastic gusset put in, or just wear them half-zipped and painful until I broke them in. So I called the shop to see if they had them in stock in my size (in-person buying = no shipping costs), and if the online sale price was still good in the store. They did, and it was, so Rebecca put a pair of size 13s (and a pair of 12 1/2s, just in case) on hold for me. As expected, the boots were too narrow in the calf. (I could only zip to maybe 4" or 5" shy of the top, leaving a 2" to 3" gap.) They were also tight over the top of the foot, as I have high arches. Rebecca assured me that they could stretch them out for me no problem, so she took some measurements and I left the boots in her care. And I am so, so, SO glad I decided to buy them in the store rather than online. I came back several days later, and miracle of miracles, they FIT. They fit like a DREAM! Well, almost... the left calf was still a bit too tight, so Bekkie was able to stretch it just a bit further while I waited. And then she poked new holes in the buckle straps at the top. And then I wore them the rest of the evening so the leather could relax and reform to my legs. And THEN they fit like a dream. Good lord, those ladies worked some kind of major magic mojo to make those boots fit, and I love them for it. Even on sale, the boots were pricey. But for the size option, the custom-goddamn-fitting, and the legendary durability of Fluevogs, it was 100% worth it. read more

I've been a Fluevog fanatic since my freshman year in college, when my outrageously hip roommate turned me on to these badass boots. What's really telling, is that every single pair of Levi's I've ever bought is still functional comma including the pair I first took a pilgrimage to get in Boston in 1992. When I quit smoking, one of my big motivations was setting aside the amount of money I would have spent on cigarettes and stockpiling it until I had enough loot to spring for a beautiful pair of knee-high Fleuvs. You're probably wondering why this is not a 5-star review right? This particular location used to always have lots of good sales and clearance items, and when I went there last weekend I was super bummed to see everything was full price. I don't make big city money, so I have to shop the sale racks that was a bummer not to see any of those anymore. That said, you know these shoes are totally worse the cost of admission. read more

Am I the only one that thinks that Fluevog shoes look like ridiculous drag queen shoes from the early 90's? They're all 3-inch heels and distressed painted leather--the were like the gay alternative to Doc Martins. But I have a friend that works here, and I like him. I am absolutely in love with this place. First of all I adored every shoe in there. It was sooo hard to choose one pair, but the price tag whipped the idea of two pair out of my brain pretty quickly. The service was amazing, both employees at the shop were very helpful and fun. Once I had on the pair I loved it was like walking on a cloud of love. Seriously, these shoes are so comfy. The best part is, they are even more comfortable on hard flooring such as tile or wood. The styles are like none other, very colorful with flaired heals. These AMAZING shoes are seriously wearable art in styling and quality. They aren't just trendy looks that won't last through the seasons of fashion - they're classic. I get compliments from everyone, including my conservative grandma, young college kids and people on the street. Of course you're paying extra for the privilege of having beautiful Fluevogs on your feet. Keep in mind that they're also made in small quantities and in factories that are up to standards - you aren't scrimping on the workers' wages just to pay less for your shoes. You can also resole them so they last longer and waste less resources. However, Fluevogs still put me in an ethical dilemma because 95% of them are leather and I'm vegan. I will not lie about the two pairs of leather Fluevogs in my closet. But I also have a pair of animal-free Fluevog high-tops. They're so comfortable I feel like I'm walking on pillows, they protect my feet from slush and they look sweet too. One of the employees explained to me that the cheap synthetic-upper shoes you might find at a discount store use animal-based glues anyway, while Fluevog's veggie shoes don't have any animal-derived products. With that, in addition to the other benefits I already mentioned, they're definitely worth the extra investment. I hope Mr. F makes more vegan shoes beyond the sneakers. Nudge nudge... The employees are down-to-earth and knowledgeable. They'll be honest about what's most comfortable or looks better. They're Fluevog addicts themselves, so they're telling you from experience. A very cute doggie - Lil Mac - is often around to give you his expert opinion. Fluevog's doubles as an art gallery. Every month, they feature different local artists and hang their work on the walls. The receptions are something fun and free to do on Friday evenings, and the artwork adds to the awesome store interior that includes a crystal chandelier and vintage theatre seats. read more
