Dr. Hilinski has been my plastic surgeon since 2010, and I wouldn't consider going anywhere else. I had a rhinoplasty years ago, and the results are still absolutely perfect and natural. More recently, I had an upper blepharoplasty and CO2 laser resurfacing with Dr. Hilinski, and I am absolutely ecstatic with the results. My eyes look brighter, more refreshed, and more youthful. My upper eyelids are now symmetrical, and the incisions have healed so well that there is virtually no visible scarring (especially after the laser treatment). The results from the CO2 laser on the upper and lower eyelids were noticeable almost immediately, and as my skin continued to heal, the improvement only became more impressive. I've also received ongoing skin care from his amazing aesthetic nurse, Jordan. She is knowledgeable, caring, and always makes me feel comfortable, and informed. Surprised to see so many glowing reviews for DR. HILINSKI. At one time if you checked reviews there were some disturbing ones. For example patients stating if they complained about results they would receive a letter from his office that stated they were no longer his patient. In my case the procedure did not totally correct the problem (as he expressed himself was not a complicated procedure, one which he did all the time) but in my case caused permanent disfigurement. Asked for copy of my medical report, photos, etc. called a few times, never received. read more

I recently had ear reduction surgery with Dr. Hilinski, and I can honestly say it is the best decision I have ever made. It is now 2023 and the problems that I brought up to Dr. Hilinski never healed the way I wanted it to heal. I waited patiently but it never got better. Unfortunately, I am ashamed to take photos of my face due to the imperfection. Today, I took a photo of my face for the first time in a year and it immediately made me sad. I did consult with Dr. Hilinski in 2022 about what could be done but after an in-person visit, I never received and email regarding the next steps. I am now seeking a second doctor to fix my nostrils and symmetry. Another $10k to address the problem. I'm honestly heartbroken because I did my homework, I went with a man who fixes other's mistakes, and I addressed the problem immediately. I don't know what else I could have done. read more

I got a deep plane face lift from this guy in late summer 2024. He knows what he's doing. He did a great job. I waited until now to write this review because I'm an extremely judgmental and meticulous person and so I needed to wait to see how things played out before I could have an opinion about this whole thing. First, for most people, maybe four to six weeks after a SMAS whatever facelift, you're going to feel like everything is good and the swelling is gone. But actually, from about six weeks to six months out, maybe 15 percent of the swelling subsides. The way it looks before six months out, virtually nobody including you will notice. I notice because I'm a freak. I'm 55 and I'm trying to be as gaunt as an 18 year old. So, onto Hilinski and how he does his thing. He's very conservative about how far to go. This actually makes him your best friend. No matter how badly you want to go extreme, if you cross that line where it looks like you got work done, you are going to regret it. You are either going to regret it for the rest of your life, or you are going to be one of those people who pretends that you don't know and pretends that when other people sort of stare at you that it's because you look so great and not because you, in fact, look like a space alien. You don't want to cross that line. Hilinski appears to not only not cross that line, he won't get anywhere near it. But again, because I'm a little bit of a freak, I had a lengthy conversation with him about where these lines are. We came to the conclusion that there are two major lines for getting work done: (1) the age appropriate line, and (2) the human line. If you cross the age appropriate line, you may look a little younger than you ought to even as a strangely healthy person your age and this can, as the doctor told me, potentially make you look a little bit like a different person. This can alienate friends and family because they might find it shocking, have trouble relating to you because you look like a slightly different person, etc. It's important to note that the age appropriate line and the human line are two completely different things. It's possible to cross pretty far over the age appropriate line and not touch the human line, but it's probably also possible to cross the human line and not the age appropriate line, cross both, etc. The human or "humanness" line is where you don't look entirely human anymore. Every person sort of has an innate sense of what people look like. It's not uncommon for plastic surgeons to do work where the person doesn't look entirely human anymore. You started seeing this a lot with the Kim K thing with the swollen faces, swollen lips, gigantic, cartoon-like curves, hips and behinds, etc. There is a culture and aesthetic that thinks this looks good even though it does not look human - and I mean this in the sense that it would be more or less impossible to find any human who has some of those characteristics who didn't have work done. The human line gets crossed where there is a lot of pulling - it makes the mouth too wide for the face, the eyes pulled from the sides and less relaxed looking - less open from top to bottom. Facelifts are dangerous. You can look less wrinkly, less jowly and also not human. That's not what you want. Trust me. Hilinski probably couldn't do that even if someone offered him a million dollars for one surgery - he is EXTREMELY averse to it. This is important. Feeling like you didn't get enough done is WAY BETTER than being disfigured in a way where you have to pretend that people are staring at you because you look so great when you know in a part of your mind that is hiding it from you to keep you from being destroyed that they are staring at you because it is painfully obvious that you got work done. He was kind enough to cross the age appropriate line. This took some convincing. He warned me. If you cross the age appropriate line and don't get anywhere near crossing the human-looking line, you risk alienating your family, your spouse, your children, your friends. I told him that I could get a new family - maybe a much younger family. I told him my wife was peculiarly unconcerned with aesthetic things and that she also tended to not look people (including me) directly in the eye during conversations, etc. (sort of like cats). I told him that I thought if I strategically avoided certain situations for a month or two that I was convinced nobody would figure it out. He thought I was crazy. I told him that even if I was wrong about this, I wasn't worried about any consequences for crossing the age appropriate line. So long as I looked entirely human and it was not possible to detect that I got work done, I wanted to cross the age appropriate line. I wanted to cross it enthusiastically. I wanted to go full Madonna. He took a little extra skin in a few spots and he took about 20 years off me and you can't tell I got work done. A+ read more

First time filler! Well Radiesse does not operate in the same way as traditional dermal fillers. It is a biostimulator. Over time it will induce collagen production. Which at my age I definitely could use. Plus I'm a bit wary of dermal fillers. Yeah they can be "dissolved" but not really. Therefore I chose Radiesse. At my consult I was seen by the RN Kellie. She is super sweet! Very laid back and did not try to push other procedures or products. She listened to my concerns and approached the solutions in a conservative manner. We agreed on one goal of Radiesse and to follow up in 3-4 months. Day of the procedure. I was brought back pretty quickly. Numbed. I felt like it was fast but honestly it must've worked because the injection was almost painless. The pricks hurt more than the actual injection if that makes sense. I felt like I was getting dental work done. That's what I would compare the process to. I could feel pressure but not necessarily pain. Kellie took time to address the shadows and areas of volume loss. She noted one side was more "deflated" (my word lol) than the other. Apparently that's the side I sleep on when my back sleep training fails lol. Afterwords I was swollen and looked as if I'd been in a fight lol. Although it's swollen I can feel/see some slight changes. Others may not but I didn't pay for others; I did this for me. My chin crease is less pronounced. I feel a tightness in the lower face surrounding my chin. I believe she called this the pre jowl sulcus? It's a bit sore (I'm now one day post). The day before it felt hard and if you didn't research before you'd probably freak out about lumps/bumps. I also feel tightness when I try to yawn but no pain. Like I said *I* can see/feel a difference. My husband didn't even notice lol. Will I be back? We'll see! I'm happy with treatment so far! Other info: the office is clean. Front desk reception: ok. I think it would be nice to offer patients water or something. It was very hot yesterday! Parking is available right in front of the office but the spaces are limited. I just wanted to post an update, I had a third revision with Dr. Sam Most at Stanford University. For anyone in this horrific situation, he is by far the best, I have the utmost respect for him and his work. He gave me my life back. Dr. Hilinski did the exact opposite. I would never trust this man ever. especially knowing what I know now. He is a lair, he is only interested in making money. If you are in a situation where you need a revision DO NOT go to him. It will come out looking horrible and he will not stand by you or give you any money back to fix the situation. He will gas light you and tell you, you need therapy. He truly is a bad person. I went to him first for a lower lift then a septum correction. Both surgeries needed revision so I was in and out of his offices for 4 years trying to get it right. It seems almost as if his business model is to do work that will inevitably need correction. At some point he tired of dealing with me and I was effectively dismissed - no return calls and the insinuation that I was somehow unstable because I was not happy with his work. I still have a bump on the bridge of my nose to correct, but have otherwise had great luck with another surgeon in town who got it right the first time, after they noted the work done by Hillinski was not wrong, but was not done with a great deal of attention to detail. I ask that the offices do not reply to this note with the standard "we are sorry and always work to provide the best services for our customers" response. I know better. read more

After two previous rhinoplasties that I consider to be "botched," Dr. Hilinski was able to recraft my nose in a way that fits my face, is straight, and makes me more handsome. I underwent a septoplasty with rhinoplasty in September and the results were amazing. I could finally breathe through both nostrils for the first time in like 20 years or more. I can sleep through the night in any position, and my loud snoring has ended. No more nighttime bulldozers going on anymore! Wow wow wow, I am floored. Kellie the RN is exceptional! But first, I'll start with the initial experience. Getting an appointment is so easy and the front office staff is so accommodating. You can send a message online or call to get an appointment. Phone conversations are really thorough and I always felt like everyone really took the time to answer all my questions. The spa itself, soooooo beautiful. And clean! And bright! And they have ample parking outside so no worries about finding parking in hillcrest. Now for the best part, KELLIE. Wow, this woman is exceptional. She is thorough, she answers all questions with sincerity, she educates you, she is CONSERVATIVE with her approach to facial esthetics! Staff was fantastic. No general customer service issues. Went in for a procedure on my lips and the doctor was polite and knowledgeable however very uncooperative in terms of going after results in addition to going for what I wanted. Instead he did what he wanted. Which when clients pay large sums of money for work to improve themselves FOR THEMSELVES.. just not the best move for attracting and retaining clientele. Definitely bummed for the amount of money spent to get minimal results. Now with this all being said there are pros. The surgery was quick and well done in terms of pain. I was back at work quickly. And the after care was well instructed. Final verdict- if your after customer service. You'll be happy. If your after results, find a doctor who cares about you and what YOU want. I recently saw Kellie Hartman RN. I ended up with a MAJOR black eye. The entire treatment was rushed. She excused herself in the middle to tend to a cool sculpt patient. She didn't take the necessary precautions to prevent bruising. No ice beforehand or canulla throughout the treatment. Two weeks later it's still dark and bruised. Makeup doesn't cover it. I look like I was punched in the face. People look at my husband funny when we're together. I contacted the office by phone and email. Nobody called me back. I got an email from Kellie saying these things happen. If you want this to happen to you go see Kellie. She needs to improve her skill, consistency and ability to compassionately care for patients. Especially when they've been injured by her. The situation could have been prevented. It significantly impacted my life. Her lack of experience shows. I wouldn't recommend her or go back. read more

Had a pleasant experience working with Dr. H and his staff. I came here for a surgical upper lip lift. I actually didn't even know this procedure was an option until I ran into someone who had consulted with Dr. H for said procedure. This seemed like a better option than lip injections so I thought I'd go for it. The procedure is supposed to add a bit more dimension/size to your upper lip. The surgeon cuts a strip of skin from directly underneath your nose and essentially pulls your lip up, stitching the incision. There is some scarring involved but with a capable surgeon and proper aftercare, it's minimal. SURGERY: Dr. H and his staff ensured that I was comfortable and the procedure went smoothly. It's done under local anesthesia. The pain (afterward) wasn't too bad and I didn't need to rely on the painkillers too much. The worst part was probably the stitches as they started to get itchy after a few days. It has only been a few months but I am very happy with the way it's healed. Happy to answer any questions about the procedure/healing process so feel free to message me. CONSULTATION: Dr. H is friendly and professional. As far as results go, I can confidently say that Dr. H will not allow any sort of extreme or exaggerated result. He was very conservative/careful with my measurements. I pushed for an extra 1mm since I really wanted a visible change. He's very much concerned with leaving a natural looking amount of space between your nose and upper lip. Not everyone is a good candidate for this procedure - it depends how much space you have to work with. The woman that recommended Dr. H told me that she was actually rejected because he felt that she didn't need the procedure (she had a pretty full upper lip). So just know that he's a responsible surgeon and be prepared to hear his opinion. As with any consultation, do your research/bring reference photos/be clear about what you want. PARKING: They have a tiny parking lot in front. Just a couple spots but it still helps. Leave yourself a bit of extra time to ensure you find parking in case the spots are occupied. HOURS: The biggest inconvenience is likely their operating hours. They are closed on weekends and they don't have evening hours. If you work FT, you have to take time off for appointments (and obviously the procedure itself). read more

Really disappointed in my experience with John Hilinski for my septoplasty. While he told me my case was not complex, I ended up needing 3 surgeries over the course of 2.5 years. Each surgery yielded a different abnormality, and he lead me to believe that he would be able to resolve them with another surgery. During my 3rd surgery with John Hilinski I was not asleep and I was able to observe how he rushed through the surgery (similar to how he always rushed through check up appointments), so I fully believe that these abnormalities were caused by his carelessness. My nose is still deviated, and it looks much worse than it originally did. Also I requested my medical records from him 4 times and he has not responded. read more

My genetically-gifted double chin has always been a sensitive issue for me. I saved my money up and last year decided I was ready to pull the trigger on a consultation. I found Dr. Hilinski on Yelp! and decided to go with his office because they had great reviews and offered both Coolsculpt and Kybella. Bottomline: When all is said and done, I didn't notice much of a difference in my problem area and feel obligated to write this review because I wish I could have made a more informed decision before wasting a $2,000 investment. I'd recommend finding a practice that is more committed to the results. It's a lot of money to spend to feel unhappy with the outcome. The good: Kellie Hartman RN did my initial consultation, the procedure and the check in's. She was truly wonderful, kind and informative. The office is centrally located and has parking which can be tricky for that neighborhood. The bad: The area I wanted treated it directly under my chin and the results are barely visible after two treatments costing $2,000. I've included photos so that you can see for yourself. I did see some difference in my jaw line but that was not an area of concern and in ways, it makes my under-chin area stand out even more now than it did before. I was recommended Coolsculpt over Kybella but when I didn't see the results we had expected, the office said they could brainstorm with the Coolsculpt reps to see if there was a better way to approach the placement of the tool on the hard-to-reach under chin area. This made me think Kybella might have been a better fit but that Coolsculpt was simply being more heavily promoted at the office, even if it wasn't right for my problem. And if Coolsculpt was a better option for me, it sounds like they should have consulted their reps to hit my problem area in advance of the treatment. After my treatment I wrote Dr. Hilinski an email letting him know that I wasn't going to share my feedback publicly but that if it were my business I'd want to know. I was constructive and honest about my experience. I was surprised when he responding asking me to come in to discuss it further. I made it extremely clear that I was not willing or able to spend any more money. His office said they understood but when I came in and discussed with Dr. Hilinski he gave me a deal of another session for $700 to treat the area. While I appreciated the responsiveness, I did not feel heard and I didn't feel like their office was willing to fix the initial lack of results and was just hoping I'd spend more money. I have a friend in the industry who let me know in confidence that the cost for a cool sculpt cycle is $125 so I think that if Dr. Hilinski's office had wanted to, they absolutely could comped an additional session in good faith. read more

I went to Dr. Hilinski after two previous botched rhinoplasty surgeries in previous years. I'll admit, I was reluctant to do it a third time, but he did an amazing job. After the surgery, I ended up with unsightly lopsided swelling on one side of my nose, and I was freaked out and worried, but over a period of many months, Dr. Hilinski carefully employed two different non-surgical techniques to encourage the swelling to finally subside--without ever charging me. Been going to this office for over 6 years. Was amazing before Med Spa. Dr. H does not do the injections anymore and the office is confused when telling you information. Exa, they would hold leftover the filler for next time, then without notice told me they don't do that anymore because of storage space, then said it was because it spoils....(spoils)? So, I've been using spoiled products for all years prior. Then changed their mind again and said they would store. Had other questions through the years on prices, discounts, and injections, etc.. getting no response or late response or didn't know answers. This was criticized by them. I can't believe I never left a review on here! I've been a patient of Dr. Hilinski for almost 5 years. He has performed numerous procedures on me including: Botox (forehead, 11s, around the eyes), Juvaderm (Fillers- cheeks, smile lines, lips), lower Blepharoplasty, under eye laser treatments, IPL facial and and a rhinoplasty. I had wanted to get my nose done since I was in high school. I hated it. So 2 years ago, I took the plunge and scheduled a rhinoplasty consult with Dr. Hilinkski. As previously stated, I'd seen Dr. Hilinkski for other procedures but this was the first time we talked at length about my nose. I was nervous a first because plastic surgeons are essentially trained to identify flaws- and I had consulted with other surgeons (not concerning my nose) and they were, to say the least, a little harsh. Dr. Hilinkski was the total opposite. He was friendly and kind yet extremely intelligent and knowledgeable. He's the kind of doctor that immediately makes you feel at ease. He explained that I didn't "have a bad nose" but there was room for improvement. I asked question after question and he patiently answered every one. I've always been kind of shy and reluctant to ask doctors questions because I felt they would get irritated if I asked too many. But talking to Dr. Hilinkski was like talking to an old friend. I felt really comfortable and confident by the end of the appointment that I booked my surgery that day! A couple months later, it was time to get my nose done! I wasn't as nervous as I thought I would be, probably because I'd been in the office 20 times before :) I met with the nurse, anesthesiologist and Hilinski the morning of and a little while later I was in the OR ready to go! He has a really funny, personable anesthesiologist, Dr. Dan, which is important because the scariest part of surgery is being put under. But I remember falling "asleep" laughing because of what Dr. Dan was saying. Waking up after surgery, I was still in a good mood. I was warm and comfortable and in absolutely no pain. I saw Dr. Hilinski a few minutes after I woke up, and due to the anesthesia wearing off I couldn't pronounce his name to save my life He told me everything went well, no complications and that he'd see me in a few days to remove the super attractive cast that was on my face. I went home and was surprised that I wasn't in any pain. I expected to have a lot of bruising under my eyes because that's what I had seen online, but I didn't end up bruising at all. I'm not sure if that's normal or maybe I just heal well. Between surgery and my 5 day post op appt. I think I emailed Dr. Hilinkski once or twice, worried that I heard something pop or I accidentally moved my cast. He always responded really quickly and assured me that everything was fine. 5 days later my cast came off and my new nose was revealed! I was still swollen but could immediately notice a difference. It takes a full year for the bone to heal and for the swelling to go completely down so what you see the first few months after surgery won't be your final result. I was seriously surprised by the lack of down time that I needed. I was expecting 2 weeks of being in pain and not being able to move. I know everyone handles pain differently but on a scale of 1-10, my recovery was at most a 2. Now that my nose is completely healed, I couldn't be happier. Since my nose wasn't bad prior to surgery, a lot of people commented that I looked different but they couldn't put their finger on it. Dr. Hilinkski is an expert in facial surgery and he aims to keep the results looking natural as possible. Improved but still natural. I know this is a long review but I wanted to provide a detailed account of my experience with Dr. Hilinkski, his staff and post op. It can be really scary making the decision to permanently change your face. It's important to find the right surgeon, research them, read reviews and ask as them as many questions as you can think of. I honestly can't say enough good things about Hilinski. He's one of the top rated facial plastic surgeons in San Diego and he has a fantastic reputation. It's only a matter of time before I want something else done to my face and Hilinkski will always be my go to surgeon. I even referred my good friend to him and she loves her new nose! Dr. Hilinski did a great job on my lip enhancement. His office is beautiful and his staff are all so sweet. They made sure I was clear about how it would feel and look for a couple of days after my lip injections. My lips are exactly what I wanted...me with a little more OOMPH! read more

I had my nose done by Dr Hilinski a little over a year ago and I'm so happy with my new nose! I can finally breathe, I have way less allergy attacks and I LOVE my new nose! I wanted it to be similar to my nose as it was pre-surgery and he did exactly what I asked for! I love this new ability to breathe and having a nose that doesn't look too different but different enough that I'm no longer insecure about it. Dr. Helinski is the best I've ever worked with. He did two sinus surgeries for my deviated septum years ago and has made himself available through the years for consult and follow-up. I had rhinoplasty / septoplasty with Dr. Hilinski. He seemed quite knowledgeable. He told me up front that he doesn't create small, cute noses but instead works to reduce the nose from being a major focal point of the face. I liked this philosophy because I didn't want to get rhinoplasty and not recognize myself. However, now that the procedure is over and a few years have passed, I wish he went a little smaller. It still looks big. Also, my nose frequently gets swollen and when it does, it looks even bigger. I also don't love the shape. The columella hangs. It looks bird like. One thing I must add is that Dr. Hilinski does his surgeries at his office. I did not mind this at all. In fact, it helped reduce the price. The only thing I did not like is that I was asked to change into a gown and go directly into the operating room and get on the table. From there, they administered anesthesia. That was REALLY scary and almost traumatizing. I felt like I should have been placed on a bed in a waiting room and given something to make me sleepy then wheeled into the operating room. Lastly, I don't remember Dr. Hilinski having a very good bedside manner. He was very, very dry and cold. read more
