Im gonna share something I don't normally talk about and when I do it's more as a joke. I graduated high school at 198lbs and in the 26 years since then I battled with my weight. I learned to "embrace it" rather than fight it. I started buying "Big Dog" shirts, I became a dad and went by "Big Daddy" all as coping mechanisms with the fact that I was overweight. In my "prime" I tipped the scales at 300lbs. I would go to lunch with some buddy's and would joke that I would order the family pack all for myself. I think you get the picture. I completely embraced the life of excess, I ate really well. I drank really well, I smoked cigarettes. I used to joke and say "I drink, I eat, I smoke, and I make a really darn good living." Through it all thankfully not a single cholesterol issue, no diabetes or blood pressure issues. Or so I thought, until earlier this year. Forget what perception social media creates. Earlier this year my life was out of freakin control. I had a serious panic attack and ended up at the doctors. He says to me, "I've been telling you to lose weight, and now here you are with a need to take blood pressure medication". A month later my blood pressure was still high and we had to double up my dosage, and even then it was still high. I needed to do something. I did the obvious, I quit smoking, eliminated drinking, started being a little more consistent with my exercise still not much help. I needed professional help, I have kids, a family, friends still need me, I felt like I was gonna die way too soon if something didn't change. Last night, I rushed after work from Riverside to Upland for an appointment I had for a Maya Abdominal massage. When I got there, I instantly felt like Priscilla was in a rush. She asked me twice if I had ever had a Maya Abdominal massage then told me "well I'm going to show you how to do it on yourself" which came off less helpful and more like she didn't really want to work with me, or as if this was something I really didn't even have to see her for. The massage itself was light pressure and 15 minutes long. She quickly finished the massage, asked "how did that feel?" Then put oil on my hands and read off of a printed PDF how to massage my own abdomen. She started the massage around 6:45 and I left at 7:10 (15 minute massage, 10 minutes of instruction). She charged me $100. I was shocked that she didn't ask me any questions prior, maybe even why I was there to see her. I told her at the end of the massage we have been trying to conceive for 2.5 years and what I knew about my body structurally and she just didn't seem to care much. She just told me which side of my body to focus on more. I debated posting this review but realized there are probably others like me out there looking for caring practitioners who aren't going to charge you an arm and a leg, especially considering the circumstances and how much fertility treatments cost already.
