I had a tragus done less than a week ago at another piercing place. Two days ago, it got extremely swollen, and pain was horrible, I think I pulled it with my bath sponge. . The earring was not visible due to the swollen. I debated to go to the ER luckily found this place. Let me tell you the service was amazing, friendly, clean and professional. Can't remember the young lady's name (super sweet), the guy that pulled helped me name or nickname is Squeeze . The earring is out no pain such a relief. I've gone to a couple different shops over the past 2 years to have my jewelry swapped out and all of them have been puzzled over my piercing. They've remarked that it's actually crooked, that's it not a straight shot through all the layers of my nose so studs don't sit flush on it and that no experienced piercer should have made this kind of mistake. The last guy spent time bending the jewelry post at a weird angle so it would sit as flush as possible (pretty much 100% flush) taking into account my crooked hole. So while John was cool, seemed competent and genuinely upset by the difficulty he ran into with me, I have to knock this review down a few pegs. Lesson: don't be impulsive about putting holes in your face. read more

Just came back from my second visit to John at Outer Limits (the first was just to discuss what my friend and I wanted and get a "feel" for the piercer). We ended up going back to John because it's pretty obvious that he knows his shit, and he's more than happy to take the time to explain and outline every single aspect of the piercing(s) you (might) want to get. John's very gentle, efficient, and professional, and answered every one of my stupid questions without a hint of frustration. I walked in knowing that I wanted a piece of metal somewhere in my upper lip, and walked out with an artfully placed gem in just the perfect location, as well as all the information I'd need to take good care of it. My friend wanted to get her cheeks pierced, but changed her mind after John listed all the risks, extra work, and extra money she would have to spend in order to maintain those piercings. I appreciate that he was honest and upfront with her about what to expect instead of just letting her walk into something we thought were just two cute little studs (instead of the big project cheek piercings usually are). After some discussion, she decided on a gem anchor in the nape of her neck, arranged so it compliments a tattoo she already had. He did a sketch and they collaborated on a good location for the anchor. It's too bad she can't see it without a mirror, because it looked damn good...the man has quite an eye for piercing placement. As far as pricing goes, I've only ever been pierced at one other shop before, and they were a little ghetto, so naturally their prices were lower. (Looked them up here on yelp and was pretty surprised to find that they have a 1-star rating...but I was a dumb, broke college student...what can I say?) You get what you pay for though, and I'm willing to pay a little more if it means I can avoid badly placed and/or infected piercings, bad advice, or shitty attitude...John offers none of the above. read more

I came here with some healing issues on a septum piercing i had previously done at a different shop. The girl greeting customers was very polite. John came out and attended me. He was super knowledgeable about the process of healing. It turns out i had the wrong jewelry put in for my healing process that was causing me issues. Almost instantly i had pain relief after he changed my piece to the correct retainer and the next day I could feel that my healing was on the right path. This man is amazing. I have had quite a few piercings in my child and adult life, and my experience at John Johnson's is by far the best. He cares, he is knowledgeable and he is interested in doing things the right way. His location reminds me more of a doctor's office than a studio once you get in the back. I work in the medical profession and I appreciate and recognize appropriate sterile technique. This man is the real deal. He is not cheap, but he is quality. He is also not interested in selling you on something that is not right for you. He takes his time and is often busy. I think you can call ahead for appointments, which may help. The shop is very clean and well decorated. It's a little slice of heaven compared to some of the shops out there. John put me at ease and gave me some good advice. I was wavering between eyebrow and nose, and he gave me some education on the pros/cons of each. I went with nose and got a beautiful green stone. I couldn't be happier. It really didn't hurt. He had me close my eyes so I never saw the needle, which is a good thing. I might have chickened out. He also knows a lot about jewelry and other piercers. I guess it's a small world. I got my nose pierced (later took it out) and I couldn't remember the name of the place. Lost one of the balls on my septum piercing and came here to replace. At first they stated that they didn't have the size I was looking for and after awhile of going to different shops, I decided to just give it a go. Love these guys! They're so nice, informative, and calming! I was slightly panicking when I went in for my helix piercing, but they got me to do some deep breathing and practically meditate which made the whole process so much better (I even went in the next week for another). They have a great selection, make sure everything is clean and sterile, and joke with you to make you less anxious which I really appreciated. The shop has a great relaxed vibe and they're really interesting, awesome people to chat with. They offered a lot of info before even piercing me and were great with all the questions I had. Let me start off by saying, I was VERY IMPRESSED and VERY SATISFIED. I just got my nose pierced, and when I walked in the receptionist was very welcoming. She helped me right away to find nose jewelry. Then she got to work on my paperwork for consent. I had to sit and watch a 5 minute video about aftercare. I went to the back with John to get started. He walked me through the entire process of what he was doing. I appreciate him educating me about the process to make me feel comfortable. He was really chill, but was very much ready to answer any questions I may had. I'm terrified of needles, but his voice was calming and by the time I took in my deep breath the nose ring was inside of me. It happened so fast and quick. I recommend anyone looking for somewhere to get pierce, GO HERE. You will be very happy. He is pretty straight forward. He's going to give it to you straight, he doesn't sugarcoat. I wish that there was a way to give more than five stars. This was my first time getting pierced professionally (my three lobe piercings were done at the mall with a gun). I got two forward helix piercings (one on each side). I told him that I planned to put crystal studs in and he was honest and explained that with the way my ears are formed, the studs would not point directly forward like I would want and so perhaps I should reconsider. I opted for rings since I can always have rings with crystals on them later. I have a needle phobia and was very nervous going in. John was very understanding. He let me know exactly what he was doing and if he was going to touch me so that I wasn't flinching and thinking it was the needle. He never let me see the needle ("There was no needle! It was done by magic!") He knew exactly how to keep me calm and even had lavender oil for calming effect. He is very thorough with his aftercare options and makes sure to talk you through it to make sure that you've payed attention and have a plan. He even sets up appointments to check in so that he can make sure that things are healing properly. TL;DR: He knows exactly what he is doing and if I get more piercings in the future, I wouldn't even consider anyone else. read more
