The owner was the nicest gal. Then it got rough. What nail salon doesn't have the correct tools to remove Gel polish these days? It took her 40 minutes just to get my old polish off. She didn't trim my cuticles at all. I do keep my nails tidy but they can always use some touch ups. Then the new polish job is chunky, splotchy and looks horrible. She sent me packing with a steep bill and not even a moisturizer on my hands to counteract all that drying Acetone. They even still felt sticky and a little gooey when I left. Maybe because the ultra violet light was so weak that I had to put my nails in 4 times between coats? Sorry for the not so great review but you may need glasses and a new bottle of polish??? What salon doesn't have Bubble Bath for a color option? I had to go pink and now I need to pay a different salon 50$ for a color change and repaint.

In the past year, I've become well versed in coloring my own hair with salon quality products and have perfected my technique over several years. TBH I was nervous to book a place for a cut only, because I was worried I'd be shamed about the fact that I highlight and tone my hair myself. This has been a necessity due to our budget and the fact that I have two kiddos and a hubby who works very hard, so it's hard for me to carve out 3-4 hours every few months for a hair appointment (yeah that's how long it normally takes). Jacque was very warm and inviting, super friendly. I was completely honest about my hair journey and the fact that it's naturally wavy, but I sometimes flat iron it, curl it with a curl iron, or do the heatless curls. Sometimes I wear it my natural texture. Life has got in the way so much that's it's been a full 10 months since I last had my hair done. She was honest with me that I needed to cut off at least two inches to cut off the damage which is normal after nearly a year of heat, no trims, and chemical damage. She had a lot of tips and tricks for me for when I color my hair at home, which I appreciate so much, as well as some tips and tricks for me for styling and using my newly bought velcro rollers. I appreciate her so much. I felt like I was having my hair done by my favorite auntie, she felt like a friend instantly. In the past 20 years that I've lived in Indy I have come across a small amount of salons that were snooty and I felt so out of place. Jatas was simple, clean, warm, and inviting at a great price. With two kids in daycare right now, I appreciate the affordability of this establishment and I rebooked for a few months from now. I have what is almost Asian hair: thick and straight but with enough bend that it just naturally begins to form a "bob" once it grows past my chin...and I have lots of it! Jenn is the only person I have found who can cut my hair the way I like it no matter what the length-of-the-moment is for me. I think she is a genius when it comes to short do's - I ALWAYS get tons of compliments when she gives me one of her super-short, spiky wild coifs. She has even managed to take my better half from his ultra-conservative, $7 walk-in hair studio do to decidedly more modern and flattering look...not an easy task considering his baby-fine, thinning locks. Jata's is not too big and is conveniently situated on the west 86th St. corridor, just down from Trader Joe's, so you can shop after for goodies after your runway redux! The salon also has nail and spa services. I've not partaken of either yet, but the nail and skincare estheticians appear to have quite a loyal following.

Yesterday morning I called and asked for an ASAP sew-in appointment and was told by the owner, Neesheka, 5pm was the only time, to which I agreed. After several scheduling calls, the situation escalated when Neesheka, called again at 2:29 to demand that I drop what I was doing and come in at 2:30, instead of 5pm like I was originally scheduled. I wasn't able to make it at that time, to which Neesheka verbally harassed me saying that I could either come immediately or not be styled at the 5pm appointment because she was "holding the store open for me". I said that was never my intention and asked why she would offer me the 5pm to begin with and also if there were any times that reflected the work I wanted done. She snapped at me and said since I wasn't satisfied I should just not come in at 5pm or at all... this weekend or ever again. I explained that I wasn't arguing, but I was confused about the appointment time and subsequent style. I still needed the appointment because I'm getting married and she begrudgingly booked me for an 8am appointment today, very clearly quoting me "$150" (I know this because she spelled it out like I am an idiot '1-5-0.'). I arrived at 8am with the hair detangled, separated by wafts and washed. I then had to wait 20minutes for my stylist to arrive. I received a SEW-IN NO STYLE THAT TOOK 1.5HOURS, and a LEAVE OUT INSTEAD OF A CLOSURE. Regardless, I accepted the style without complaint, thanked the staff and proceeded to the front. Upon check out, I saw the stylist quoted me $180 for the service. I politely asked the owner about the difference in price, explaining I had expected the $150 originally quoted, she snapped at me YET AGAIN. This time Neesheka loudly proclaimed that I was "HAGGLING, and DIDN'T have the THIRTY DOLLARS", it was my "FAULT FOR NOT ASKING THE STYLIST THE PRICE BEFORE" and she "OPENED EARLY FOR ME" (the appointment time she offered) and so I "SHOULD JUST NEVER COME BACK". This owner is extremely unprofessional, and made a scene in front of at least 20 people, causing me to TEAR UP. Neesheka called me 5 times yesterday to set up an appointment, clearly showing that she didn't have a handle on the situation and then grew irritated that I wasn't able to accept half a service or come in at the drop of a hat. During this interaction she treated me, the customer, with such disrespect that even her HUSBAND looked ashamed of the behavior, repeatedly stepping in- an attempt to deescalate her lack of respect and aggressive communication. I had already planned on not returning after my hair was fried to a crisp, only coming in today due to the availability, but the behavior of the owner(s) solidified that I will never return. Neesheka's ghetto attitude, quickness to grow loud, and inability to properly schedule is detrimental reflection on both her business and character. !!WORST SALON I'VE BEEN TO IN QUALITY AND PROFESSIONALISM!!

The first time I got my haircut, which was the same time I dyed my hair, I mentioned it was uneven but the way my hair was cut previously, when she would check it, it look like it was cut evenly. When I woke up and showered the next day, I realized it was pretty uneven and I called them and they told me I could come in and get it fixed for free. They were very helpful and listened to my suggestions about how I wanted my hair and then did the best they can to give me what I wanted.
