Ruined birthday dinner. We have been long time customers , but no more. The service is getting worst each time we go. Last night they lost part of our order, our food got cold waiting, they served other tables that came in after us and they didn't show any concern for making wait over 90 minutes to get our full order. I tried take-out from here the other day. The waitress was polite over the phone and very thorough and conscientious in taking my order. I walked in to find a clean, spacious "entry room," where my take-out order was waiting (and where, I assume, guests are then escorted to the spacious and sumptuous-looking dining rooms). And then there was the food, which was amazing! I got the Yu Hsiang Pork and the Bean Curd Family Style. The vegetables were freshly cut, and the meat was tender. My husband went to pick up our carry out order which he placed through Door Dash. They would not answer the door when he knocked and mouthed "go away". He then pulled up our pick up order and showed her through the door and she just shook her head and made waves her arms to leave and made angry faces. This is directly their fault for not updating the app to reflect that they were closed today. It was just plain rude and could have been handled so differently with an apology that they were not open. We will NEVER return even though we picked up frequently from there. read more

Details matter on the menu. When you don't state that an ingredient is inside of a dish and people have allergies or an aversion to certain types of food that's not cool. At one point it was probably a great restaurant, but it looks like it has seen better days. Decor is extremely dated. read more

Absolutely scrumptious. I ordered takeout over the telephone quite late (9:15) - which was 15 minutes before closing, and the staff was so kind and the food is just as yummy as prime dinner time. I enjoyed the shrimp lo mein which was wonderful and had a ton of perfectly cooked shrimp. The rice was cooked well. The ambiance of the restaurant was great, even at a late hour of the day. Disappointing. The service and the food. We hadn't been in a few years and came for dinner last night. From the beginning the service was not good. The younger server was inattentive, forgetful and very slow. It was so bad from the beginning that we contemplated leaving before we ordered any food. We should've gone with our gut. I'll start with the positives - All of the food looked great and tasted fresh. The Hot & Sour soups we ordered as an appetizer were very good. One of the best, if not the best, that we've had. I could've eaten a large bowl of it and been happy. My husband ordered the Yang Chow Shrimp & Scallops. I ordered the Yu Hsiang Seafood Combination. Both dishes had a nice presentation, were fresh and the seafood was cooked perfectly. But the dishes were very lacking in flavor and overly sweet. My dish was supposed to have a spicy garlic sauce - as the in restaurant menu states, the online menu states it has a white wine sauce - it had neither. Not a hint of garlic, no spice whatsoever and so very sweet that I could barely eat it. My husband's dish was supposed to be spicy also. It was not at all. It was bland and sweet. Neither of us ate much of our entrees and boxed it up to take home. Although - it won't get eaten. The food - except for the excellent Hot & Sour soup - tasted like fresh food doused in cheap bottled sauce you'd buy in the grocery store in the Asian food section. Been going here for our Chinese food for years as a family . We've had the beef , the chicken, the soups, egg rolls, and plenty other things not mentioned here . I also have tried outside the area other places (out of state areas, this is my local spot every time) and this place is easily one of the best places in the city if not the state . Consistent, good food and service, and fair pricing . Did I mention quick ? They even took care of a little mishap that was beyond their control and made my night as a customer . We were a table of 6 with 6 meals ordered . After 1 hour two meals arrived. 30 min. later, two more meals arrived. The other two meals never arrived. It took asking for our check at least five times before that came. They were overbooked and understaffed. While we were there, three tables of customers left in disgust before even ordering. **** Review 58 **** Stopped in for a quick lunch, since I was told it was a lunch buffet. The restaurant has a nice are, divided by half walls, there's plenty of seating and it looks clean. Unfortunately, that's the best part. The lunch buffet is made up of about 12 different entree items, about 4 desserts, and two soups. Some of the food looked over fried, such as the Chinese donuts and the chicken wings. The rice did not taste fresh, more like warmed up left overs from the day before. Sad to say, but almost all the food tasted like it was warmed up from left overs. The wonton soup had peas and carrots, and the chives were dry and stale. The only thing that had some what of a decent taste was the mango chicken, but it was probably because it was drowned in sauce. Now to the staff, I was here for about an hour, and the only time I saw someone was when I got seated, and when I got the bill. And it was then that I had to ask for a refill. When I went to pay I couldn't find anyone, it wasn't until I asked someone, sitting at a table by the tv, if they knew who was working the register that she said it was her, she got up and I was finally able pay. Not very happy with the experience, for the $9 price, I could have gone to a different place and had better service, and better food. Definitely not coming back. read more

We always do take out from JC2, The food is always fresh, hot, & the order is always correct, I just recently started enjoying their Egg Rolls, The Fried Rice is amazing, They give you a lot of food for the price, I have tried other area Chinese restaurants but none of them compare to this family owned & operated restaurant. Not what it used to be, has really gone down hill I stopped in for lunch and they are not doing the buffet right now, which is completely understandable.  I ordered one of the lunch specials off the menu.  The Hot & Sour soup was great as it always has been. The entree on the other hand, was extremely disappointing.  It was very bland and barely any chicken in it (mainly celery).  The egg roll was ok, but no sweet and sour sauce or hot mustard to go with it (I was going to ask for it, but they never came back).  I assumed the waitress would ask if everything was ok when she saw that I only took  3 bites, but she took the plate and brought the check. This is so disappointing, I used to love this place and was usually a place I would bring out of town guests to (other people always seemed to really like it).  I know restaurants have had it very tough during the pandemic, so I do tend to give some leniency, but not asking if there was an issue when you don't eat what you were given shows me you're no longer concerned.  There were only 2 other tables during the lunch hour, so I assume other people are no longer happy. read more

Unfortunately, this place is just...ok. I was hoping that because this is in Montgomery, that it would be really good. It looks upscale, the price isn't the cheapest, so maybe I was expecting something more. I had the Beef Lo Mein. This is my "go to". and, like I said, it was ok. The flavor was good, the noodles weren't gummy and it was nice and hot. It just didn't have any wow factor. Oh well, lesson learned. I like the food here. My main issue has been that when we eat there they bring out the food in a random order. Like we got entrees way before any rice with such a delay that the entree was only semi warm by the time rice came out. Its better for us to get take out from here. I prefer the chicken dishes here, the shrimp size is pretty small for the seafood entrees. The chicken corn soup, hunan chicken, crab rangoon, singapore noodles and lo mein are some of my favorites. Great lunch buffett! Not a lot of food but dependable quality food. I have been going there for several years and almost always have the same dishes: Crab rangoon, quesadillas, egg rolls, fried chicken, sesame balls, doughnuts, dumplings and chicken on a stick for appertizers. For main dishes expect orange or black bean shrimp, kung pao chicken, moo goo gai pan (chicken), sweet sour chicken, mango sesame chicken, vegetables, spicy beef dish, pork dish with green beans (1 is always black bean), fried rice. They also have cookies and fresh fruit and hot sour or egg drop soup. Wished they had won ton soup. It is always packed for lunch and they are slow on drink refills. I never ate there for dinner but did carryout once for dinner. I was shocked how bad the food was for carryout. They must have a different chef at night. read more

I have been getting take out from Johnny Chan 2 for years and it has been basically good, but the last two visits have been disappointing to the point that this last visit may be my final one. First the good, the BoBo plater, won ton soup, and the Hunan Beef were all good, but that is where the good pretty much ended. Hot and Sour soup was virtually tasteless, the Mongolian pork was all onions and no pork, the chicken dish we got was all celery and no chicken, the combo fried rice was under cooked and also tasteless. If this was a one off event I would chalk it up as being the result of being busy on Mothers day, but this is the second time the food has not been very good, so I can only assume things have changed, and not for the better. read more

I visited Johnny Chan on a whim for lunch. Having read the reviews of the buffet (dependable quality but limited) I thought I'd shoot for something more unique on the menu. When I arrived the hostess took me to my table for one. I surprised her by requesting a menu, not the buffet, so she had to run back for one. She seemed a little inconvenienced by the request. What I got surprised me. I went for the Mango Chicken which had bell peppers, sweet & sour sauce and some spicy additions. I don't know what I expected, but it wasn't this. This was better! Thin strips of chicken thoroughly cooked with lots of large slices of sweet ripe mango and a smattering of bell peppers. The one drawback to this dish was that it was completely drenched in sauce. Billed as a good dish for the Spring and Summer I was hoping for something lighter. Perhaps next time I'll ask for the sauce on the side? This Chinese place is different than most and offers wine and beer up front. While I can't vouch for any of the other dishes, this Mango Chicken impressed me. I'll be going back soon. read more

I've been coming here for years & sadly, the service & food has been getting incrementally worse. The tipping point was my lunch buffet experience the other day. I sat down, opened my silverware to find a rubber band wrapped with my fork & knife, clearly from produce. I think it's odd that no one would've noticed that when they were rolling silver but, ok--I'll just grab another from another table. I make my plate food, get back to the table & when I'm half-way through my chicken with string beans, I find a metal shaving, about 3 inches long in a cool. I promptly got up, went to pay & was met at the front by a woman wearing gloves, snapping beans at the table. She takes my money, gloves still on & cashes me out. And, of course, she goes right back to snapping beans without changing her gloves. This place is a health code violation waiting to happen!! read more

LOVE their lunch buffet. We've been coming here for years but haven't written a review until now. If you can, try to come right at 11am when they open to ensure you get the freshest food but they do a good job of replenishing throughout their lunch service. I always start with a cup of their egg drop soup which is great. You can add in green onions and crunchy noodles as needed. They do a good job of featuring different buffet selections but some of my favorites are the orange shrimp, green beans w/ pork, beef and mushrooms, chicken teriyaki/satay, and the Chinese sugar donuts. They have a great variety and plenty of vegetarian options too. They serve alcohol and have a regular menu as well although we usually just come for the buffet lunch! This location is near my work. I have been craving Chinese food and have yet to find a good place near where I live, I guess you can say I am shopping around for my next go-to Chinese spot. I am still looking after trying Johnny Chan's. The food was just okay, nothing spectacular. I found myself adding soy sauce and hot sauce. I rarely add extra soy sauce but I felt the food was rather under seasoned. I got crab Rangoon which was quite good, hot and sour soup (which was just okay), vegetarian's delight, and chicken lo mien for my daughter. I can't say the food was bad, just very under seasoned and kinda bland which is also my complaint with my local Chinese restaurant. I wouldn't go out of my way to come back. I am going to continue looking around for my Chinese food fix. Positives are fast service, easy location, and reasonable prices. Johnny Chan 2 has long been a favorite Chinese restaurant of my family. The Szcehuan, Hunan, and Cantonese Cuisine specialty restaurant located at The Shops at Harper's Point is great for a sit-down dinner. Johnny Chan 2 also does well in takeout and offers catering and banquet services, while also serving a lunch buffet Monday through Friday, and a Sunday brunch as well. One thing that makes Johnny Chan 2 stand out is its décor and arrangement: it's decorated nicely and it's very roomy as the tables aren't too close to each other like at many other Chinese restaurants. Another thing Johnny Chan 2 offers is brown rice, which is sometimes hard to find at other Chinese restaurants. The menu consists of appetizers and soups, a nice selection of entrées, Moo Shu, Vegetables, Noodles/Rice, and Sushi, while they also have a bar near the front door. Some dishes I recommend are the Asparagus Shrimp and Chicken in black bean sauce and the Sizzling Pan-Fried Noodles, while I also enjoy the Sweet and Sour Chicken. The restaurant also says all vegetables are steamed, they use 100-percent vegetable oil cooking, and the items are generally low cholesterol as well. The service at Johnny Chan 2 is very good too, and it's a great place to head on a Friday or Saturday night. Even when it's busy, you typically don't have to wait for a table, which is great on a busy weekend when most area businesses have waits of at least 30 minutes to an hour. The restaurant is also open on Christmas Eve and Day, so stop in for a bite when most other restaurants are closed. Overall, Johnny Chan 2 is a very good restaurant with high quality food at reasonable prices. read more

I've been a fan of this restaurant since dining on their lunch buffet in the early 1990s. My wife and I have always gravitated here for Chinese because of the personal service and the much better than average entrees and presentation. My opinion of Johnny Chan's has slipped quite a bit in the last couple of visits. We're very pedestrian Chinese patrons but I still really enjoy the familiar and smoky "wok hei" flavor when the chef is putting out the best food. Our most recent visit was May 24th. We started with soup. My hot and soup tasted OK, but... too much frigging cornstarch!! That's one thing that to me distinguishes a good Chinese restaurant - restraint on the soup's viscosity. My wife's egg drop was the same. This stuff was almost as thick as crap carryout we've gotten in the past. I got Hunan Chicken for the entree... incredibly forgettable. No flavor of searing from a wok. Just bland mass produced buffet entree flavors. The last time we ate here, I got two pieces of sushi, which here I've enjoyed in the past. The sushi I got here last time (smoked salmon, and tuna) smelled way too strong and was pretty bland. So, this time, I skipped the sushi. They need a new or better chef. This person sucks. And there's no reason to drive here, IMO. read more
