The food is GREAT here! The service is ok. The vibes are iffy. Definitely more of a touristy place

Hubby and I were in Myrtle Beach for one night for a formal event. We woke up wanting breakfast and I originally wanted to dine somewhere else. We checked out of our resort and he wasn't feeling the menu so he hopped on Reddit and found that a lot of people highly recommend Johnny D's. I was reluctant at first but eventually agreed. I'm so glad we tried this place because it did not disappoint! My husband got the jambalaya omelette with a short stack of pancakes and I am a Benny girl, so I had to get the pork belly Benedict and upcharged my side from grits to the homestyle fries (crispy potatoes). Our food came out hot, fresh and so good! Portions are generous and prices are very reasonable. My pork belly pieces were huge, perfectly crispy and moist. My husband's omelette was stuffed and had plenty of filling. The meat on my Benny was so plentiful that I only ate half of my meal. Our server was sweet, kind and very attentive. The atmosphere of this entire place is clean, lively and the perfect amount of noisy but quiet. We can't wait to bring our kids back here to try the food. I tried Johnny D's Waffles and it was honestly so worth it. The menu has so many good options, and everything we ordered was delicious--definitely lives up to the hype. Just a heads up, it's a smaller restaurant with limited seating, so the wait can get pretty long. But even with that, our food came out surprisingly fast once we were seated, which I appreciated. Most restaurants in this area, especially pancake places, seem dated and tired. I assume the owners are just taking every dime for themselves, not putting money back into their infrastructure, and thinks nobody will notice. I was at this location yesterday, and most of the windows inside had flies sitting on them....it tells me there is either a sanitation issue, or their back door is open close to a dumpster. Either way, their pest control is lacking. Lastly, the help seems oblivious to this or any other issues within. Food is nothing special, and average at best. read more

We stopped at Jonny Ds on a Thursday at 12:15 while waiting for our vacation condo to be ready. We were able to be seated without waiting. Our server was friendly. We were quick to get our food. Sat at 12:15, food was in front of us by 12:30. Restaurant was semi full. Food was good tasting. Good amount of food, filling amount. Plenty of options. We also tried the mimosas. Early morning breakfast here on our last day at Myrtle Beach. Coffee as so good. I love that they give you a carafe and leave it on the table. Delicious corned beef hash and eggs. Grits were cooked perfectly. Husband loved his Denver omelet. Service was outstanding. Big Breakfast Very popular place so we had a bit of a wait, but it was expected. Tables were turned over as quickly as possible. The brisket skillet was exceptionally good (meat was so tender and the jalapenos complemented the dish well). I was a little disappointed int he "cinnamon roll" french toast". It was basically a cinnamon roll...it seemed like it was not dipped in french toast batter before being grilled. Nonetheless, it is a place I would recommend and eat at again. Johnny D's did not disappoint! Love the cinnastax pancakes. Personally I think they are better than the waffle. They have more stuff on top and I just really like their pancakes also - light and airy. The breakfast sandwich was good. It could have used a little pizzazz. The home fries I will not repeat. They were soft and had a little seasoning (maybe Cajun), but I just didn't care for them. My son had the western omelette without the home fries in it and really like that. I've been coming to Myrtle for years and years and always assumed this was a basic diner with traditional dishes, but after reading other reviews I was convinced to give it a try. So glad I did! It is DELICIOUS and the service was so quick, especially considering how busy they were. It's very clean and cute inside. Parking is easy. I had the Jambalaya omelette with pancakes and the flavors were perfection. My friend got Chicken and Waffles and it didn't seem to have anything particularly unique or mind-blowing but was tasty. Got here about 9:30a Saturday morning and while full there was no wait time we were seated upon arrival. Staff was friendly and service was fast. My family and I were looking for a good breakfast!! We passed this place on the main road and pulled in. There were 4 grownups, 2 kiddos and a baby. Way overpriced and under flavored. I ordered a waffle meal and a Diet Coke. Wife got a classic Benedict with home fries. Her potato's were bland and mushy. The ham on the Benedict was tough and cheap. My waffle was chewy just like the lousy bacon it came with. All this for $44. Oh... my. Okay, this menu is ridiculous in a very good way. This place is definitely a place to come back to, just to be able to explore all the great options on their menu. Had the Irish Skillet with a Short Stack of Pancakes and a Short Stack of French Toast, a warm Egg Nog, a Pork Belly Benedict, and a Country Fried Steak. First, the Egg Nog: it was 50ºF outside, and having it warm instead of cold was the right choice. Delicious, and strong. Woof. The yolks on the eggs on the skillet were warm but still liquid, the pancakes were fully cooked but still light and fluffy. The French toast was good, but if I were making them, I'd let them soak up just a little more custard, as the slices are thick so the centers were a bit dry; still, delicious, though, just my preference. Country fried steak was excellent, and the gravy was peppered just right. The pork belly benedict was tasty, the eggs poached just right, but the pork belly was a bit on the dryer side; again, preference, would have preferred them with a bit of fat still in the meat to keep them moist and soft, but I know a lot of folks don't like the mouthfeel of fat and collagen, so this was no surprise. Again, the menu is absolutely fantastic, with so many delicious options. Even though this was in South Carolina, it had the spirit of our Jersey diners back home, elevated to chef levels. Such a great spot! I stopped in for breakfast and ordered the red velvet waffles -- they were delicious and surprisingly filling. I added a side of sausage patties, and it all hit the spot. My server, Brandy, was incredibly sweet and helpful. Even though the place was busy, the service was quick and smooth. I also had the banana drink, which I really enjoyed. Delicious breakfast this morning all around! Service was attentive and pleasant. I had the classic eggs Benedict with home fries. Nicely done! Hollandaise sauce was very tasty. They are open every day from 7:00 AM - 2:00 PM. The menu is massive so it took me a few minutes to decide what I want. I finally decided on the Chipotle Bacon Skillet. It consists of home fries, scrambled eggs, bacon, jalapeños, mushrooms, and cheddar jack cheese. It's topped with Chipotle and served with guacamole. Delicious! The unique combination of ingredients gave this dish a lot of flavor. My friend ordered the Banana Bread French Toast. It's topped with fresh bananas and powdered sugar. So good! The most annoying thing is having a waiter come to your table 4x to take your order. This was definitely our situation although my wife is to blame for her indecisiveness largely a result of the multitude of savory breakfast/brunch options. True compliment to the Chef and our poor waiter who was simply trying to maintain the restaurant tempo. Speaking of tempo, we went this Sunday at 0830 and had a 10min wait and as we were leaving an hour later there was a line. Fair warning to you all but Johnny D's is well worth the trip and as advertised, AWEsome!
