A Ketchum classic for locals and tourists. Great to grab after a day on the slopes or just a quick lunch. Several items on the menu are all delicious including the chicken parm, chicken Caesar, and meatball sub. Staff is always so kind and friendly. It was especially busy this last time we went so they gave us a free cookie for waiting just a little extra. Vibes are great inside with pictures of all those who have visited the shop.

Best sandwiches in Blaine County. Johnny's super nice and all the staff I've ever interacted with have been the same. There's not really a lot of competition, but even if there were, I think this place would come out on top. Nothing is really remarkable or special. Just really well done and good. Also, insanely low beer prices. read more

I have the number two with a mixed berry smoothie. The bread was toasted it was a nice touch compared to most places. The atmosphere and setting was very laid-back and pleasant. Highly recommend. read more

The folks in the shop were quick with the order and the sandwich I ordered tasted exactly what a great Sub should taste like. The bun was gently toasted and wonderful. The owner used our names three or four time and called many other customers who came in by their first names. A great lunch experience! read more

Johnny G's is the quintessential snowboarder/ski bum place to eat. They have reggae playing in the background, walls covered with skiers jumping of insane cliffs and have some awesome subs. I was a bit overwhelmed at the choices of delicious sounding combos they had and look forward to trying each and every one of them. The owner (?) seemed super chill and nice. Probably the only drawback is that either they are shortstaffed or the person making sandwiches is going at a super chill pace. You can be waiting longer than avg to get your eat on. But, no matter. Either call your order in or have a seat and watch some ESPN they have turned on. read more

As a person with a severe peanut allergy, I have never eaten there given the self serve peanuts in their dining area. I called and they were exceptional regarding my allergy (maybe the most allergy friendly I've ever experienced). The food was amazing and one of the few places I could say I could eat every day. This place is amazing. Huge menu with like 20 awesome sandwiches that are massive. Great bread, great beers, great ingredients. Doesn't get better than this. The owners and staff are all rad. We were skiing at Sun Valley for the day and stumbled upon this amazing sandwich shop. This place is so good and so affordable, especially for being in a mountain town. I was happy that they had a gluten-free option for sandwiches. My boyfriend got a sandwich and clam chowder. The soup was hot and delicious! The staff is friendly and quick. Wowzers! What a delicious sub! For my first visit, I ordered the special which was brisket, provolone, red onion and an onion/bacon jam. It was smoky and sweet and melty all on crispy toasted bread. One of the best sandwiches I have ever eaten. Plus, super-friendly service. I hope they are open on Memorial Day, so I can get a sandwich to go on my way out of town. read more

Johnny G's Subshack has hands down one of the best sandwiches I've ever had in my life. Definitely a place everyone should visit while in town, especially after a nice long bike ride. People can have a bad day, and I never want to cast negative light on a small business, but this experience warrants a review. I ran into the store quickly with my 3 year old for some raw products and side dishes for dinner ...a super quick $100. When I got home 15 min later, I realized one of the items I had been carrying around the store was not in my bag. Since I had gone there particularly for that item, and specifically remember taking it out of the refrigerator when I first got there, I wanted to call and make sure they could put it aside for me if I had been charged for it OR that I hadn't accidentally left it out in the store not refrigerated and unnoticed. Since I wasn't provided with a receipt, I didn't know, but I did know that I took it out of the refrigerator and placed a few things on another table near the register as to not block anyone while still grabbing and dashing! Charged or not, I felt I had left it out somewhere and wanted to make sure it got back to refrigeration and didn't go to waste! You'd think this would be a simple conversation with the store owner. So I called the store to let them know. I tried to explain that I'd gone up to the counter with raw creamer, but it didn't make its way into the bag, so I wasn't sure if I was charged for it or not but it should be somewhere around the cash register area regardless! The owner curtly interjected while I was mid sentence that she did not charge me for creamer. I tried to explain again that I had taken it out of the refrigerator and she might want to check on the table with the soup containers bc I had placed things there before getting to the register. I wasn't trying to argue that I had paid for it. Her response was, "we did not charge you for creamer. Do you understand that??" I am not exaggerating, she said it just like this! To a customer!! Very shocked at her response and tone, thinking there must be some huge miscommunication, I tried explaining again that I was positive I had left it in the store, out of the fridge, regardless of being charged. And told her where I thought she should l check. I thought for sure this would resolve the conversation and it could end on a good note. I was not being confrontational at all b/c there was nothing to argue about! She then accosted me again and told me I did not "get charged for creamer" and then HUNG up on me!! The OWNER!! Acted like this!!! Over a customer trying to tell her she left the creamer out! Such a disappointment as the store was a great resource for me. I absolutely love supporting small businesses and local farmers, but can improvise elsewhere after this experience.

The owner also served them with a unique salsa that was "a little bit spicy but very delicious ". Even though it was lunch the portion was more than enough for two. I liked the setting inside a train car. Cozy and quaint, but a little stuffy on a warm day. If they could've opened a window it would've been perfect. They had plenty of outside seating however so if eating al fresco is your thing they have it in abundance. I'd definitely eat here again.

Otherwise, this is a unique spot worth checking out.

The secret is clearly out, because even for an early dinner in the off season there was about a 30 minute wait. They offered us wine while we waited which took the edge off. There were seven of us and they seated us at a table that was probably too small, but it was better than continuing to wait. The dining room inside is small, and there is also outdoor seating, but I overheard people complaining about bugs outside. I was happy to be crowded inside rather than bugged outside. We were told the dishes tend to be small and to order plenty, so we did. With the small table it was a little awkward to place and pass everything, but we managed. We ordered a lot of dishes (see photos, though I still think I missed a few). The standouts for me were the dumplings and the noodles.

But there was a slight complacency in the air. The staff lacked the hunger and drive that makes a restaurant truly great. Ambiance was great, another 4.5 stars. The food fell short of the mark, most certainly below the prices paid. The pork chop was beautifully cooked, but under seasoned and the sauce accompaniment was reminiscent of A1 steak sauce, and it just didn't work. The mash potato side (and additional $16) was somewhat bland and grainy. It tasted as though it was cut with a root such, as a turnip, which made me long for that true Idaho potato taste. I was in town for the mt bike races the other weekend and ran across your sandwich shop. My friend ordered the veggie and I had the delbello (the best!). Staff was very friendly, food fantastic. The place was packed with visitors - all of whom seemed to be enjoying the food and nice outdoor seating. I heard that there were over 1000 bikers in town for the race so anyone who ate anywhere in town that weekend no doubt found the wait longer than is probably average. While there were many younger people at Johnny G's, we found people of all ages sitting together and enjoying great conversations. Nice to find a place that suits all ages. I just read Alison M's review - seems to me she is more bitter about the attention her sister got at Johnny G's and therefore her review is a little tainted. I am in my late 40's. I did not feel "old". HIIGHLY recommend this restaurant to any who love a great sub sandwich. read more

LOVE Subshack! We always make time to eat here when we come to town. The Delbello is my favorite, but the kids always go for the Middle School Madness. Fresh baked bread and the soups are fantastic. Some of the most friendly people who work there and the owners are always around. Highly recommend this for one of the best subs we have had! read more
