June 6th 2026 - 2 for dinner we went TO the restaurant and ate in before a play in Sarasota at the FST. Onion rings. pretty good and nice clean deep fryer so they tasted fresh and not too wet, dark, or oily. My wife thought too thick a fried coating = thicker than the onion inside. 8/10 We got the cheesteak hoagie this time IN. My wife ordered so luckily we got the plain authentic roll by default (not a fan of the seeded rolls) but unfortunately I prefer the American cheese taste and flavor and consistency on the steak. We got cheddar I guess by default (love cheddar just not on a sandwich and cheesesteak) This was a very good cheesesteak - especially for Florida! (well especially also for NY/Long Island for the 16 years I lived there - their attempts are really poor) However next time with the American cheese. We both do not like the rolls here (Liscio's Bakery in S NJ?) as much as Amoroso. A good 9/10 with the American cheese. We also got the pork broccoli rabe provolone cheese with the Johnny long hots. I picked the hots off and actually ate them separately as I wanted to have a Tony Luke/(Tony & Nick Steak now) style pork sandwich as close to my Philly memory. In my first take out order they were out of broccoli rabe and subbed spinach? so that was disqualified. This sandwich was just plain not that good. the broccoli rabe was way overboard, soggy and wet. I am a vegetarian, vegan Planted based mainly eater. I love veggies, and eat broccoli and other veggies every day multiple meals...... but this was about 50% a tube of chopped broccoli rabe (see picture) - too much and too wet and mushy over stewed/boiled. The pork was very salty and just not to my liking. And for the second time the roll is heavily toasted and must be dropped on the grill into butter as its is soaked and toasted into the roll. This is NOT a Tony Luc style hoagie with a soft plain Amoroso no frills tasty roll. I dunno, too buttery/oily/greasy, too wet broccoli and the pork was also all chopped up and stewed/wet. I feel like I am complaining, but I guess I am. Not what I expected or wanted. I am not going to order this again if we go back. 5/10 My expectation are steeped in 45 years of Philly living, high school and college downtown at Drexel. Pat's, Gino, Tony Luke's / Tony & Nick's Steaks, Jim's, Jersey Shore etc etc. Simple food for simple working class folks. They have all the ingredients and the rolls are good and fresh and some of the best in the area...... just not great. NOT Amoroso and NOT Sarcone's. This was our fourth time at Jonny long hots, first three times everything was good, nice seeded roll. (If you want, they also offer plain rolls.) nice sandwiches in a timely fashion. We are not sure what happened today but our single cheesesteak with a side of mushrooms took 30mins, the roll was past its prime and the meat and cheese filling was clumpy and just not as tasty as it had been. It's also frustrating when you can see your sandwich sitting in the window and have to ask the counter person to simply turn around a hand it to me. Meanwhile hearing the cooks in the kitchen yell at the counter staff for ringing in orders wrong. Not saying I won't be back, but probably won't be back on a Thursday, or even for a while. Hopefully they can turn their GAF level back up because today was a poor performance. read more

The restaurant was neat and clean, with a distinct Philly-inspired atmosphere that added to the experience. Denise welcomed us with a friendly smile, answered all of our questions, and made ordering at the front counter easy and pleasant. The menu was extensive and appeared to offer something for a wide range of tastes. What We Ordered: * Cheese Steak with American Cheese & Onions * Italian Hoagie with Provolone, Genoa Salami, Peppered Ham, Pepperoni, Capicola Lettice, Tomato Cheese & Onions, * Crinkle Cut Fries * 2 Cokes Food Quality: Denise brought our food to the table quickly, and we were immediately impressed by the size of the Cheese Steak and Hoagie. The hoagie ingredients were fresh and appealing, and my Cheese Steak was so full of meat that it was overflowing. Everything arrived hot, flavorful, and in such generous portions that we needed a doggie bag to take some home. Even the fries were excellent. Summary: Johny Longshots really impressed us with its friendly atmosphere, attentive service, and large servings. Denise also shared a bit of the restaurant's history, explaining that it has been there for about 13 years and was sold a while back to Mike Pano, who expanded the menu to what it is today. Jammed packed waiting. Line out the door. Wait time varies from 30 to 45 minutes on a Sunday first week of opening. Sandwiches smell amazing. Peppers are ready for you to add on the side with napkins and to go extras. Two hands, and a fork with plenty of napkins. Flavors are great! People just kept on coming in and phone kept ringing. Wow STRAIGHT FROM PHILLY and this is a MUST! The place was completely packed with Philadelphias and "wanna be" Philadelphians and with the line was out the door! They have roast pork, hot links, hoagies and other Philly specialties but the star of the show is the Philadelphia Cheesesteaks! They have provolone, American, and "cheese" WIZ for cheese selections and the WIZ is a Philly tradition. I know because I am originally from Philly! They beat out Pats, Gino's, DAllesandro's but they are is "neck and neck" with Jim's steaks on South street! The owner was named Michael is friendly, professional, and truly goes out of his way to make sure every person who walks through the door is welcome. He greets all his customers, and high fives anyone from Philly like they are part of the family! Great food, great place, and the service spectacular! Went in a couple of weeks ago. Staff and owners energy and eagerness to assist was awesome! Sandwiches were good but I did not feel it was that special until a couple days later when I ate a Philly at another local hoagie place and I realized the quality difference. It was noticeable that the Philly at Longhots was real beef and high quality. My only negatives are that it's too far south and that I feel their menu is too busy. It's a personal peeve that I think they should stick to what they are good at and keep their menu smaller and easier to manage. Lastly fountain soda and fresh brewed iced tea is so much better than bottles. None of this weighs down my 5 star review! Look forward to going back. read more

The best tasting and quality cheese steak that I have found in SW Florida. Great menu, set up and staff. Plenty of sandwich choices on the menu to satisfy everyone. I have tried the cheese steak with onion, peppers, mushrooms (provolone and mozzarella on separate occasions) and the Italian hot dog. Cheese steak hands down what I would expect from any Philly enough Jersey sandwich shop. The Italian hotdogs was great tasting as well. Only wish it would come with just a little bit more potato's in the roll. The staff is great and the owner communicated both with staff and welcomes his customers with a great smile. I only wish they had a location in Venice, a 25 min ride isn't bad, but for non inside dining, I prefer something closer. Franchises are Available ....however, I just retired in 2025 and have no intention of working again!!! I give them three stars because they're trying. they're trying to educate people who have no idea what a Philly cheesesteak or a roast pork tastes like. it's remnants of the real Philly sandwiches. not really a duplicate at all. no hard-crusted rolls. the rolls are very soft like an amaryosa roll. any respectable Italian nose? they're junk but the people down here probably have loose teeth and false teeth so they're like the roll. it's nice and soft for them to eat them. it's not a bad roll. it's just not a Philly roll. it's not a New York roll. there's no hard crust personally. I was disappointed in the roll but that's me. the meat could have used more meat for $16 for a sandwich. pull a little more meat in it. you're representing Philly. it was tasty though. I got a Philly cheesesteak and a roast pork. I ate half of each but the other half away for what I'm really really hungry. roast pork with all the flavors and sharp provolone. it did have a good taste however those it need it. it was lacking garlic, pepper and rosemary like an Italian roast. pork should taste but with all the flavors together it wasn't bad. in my opinion it was just okay and for me that's pretty good cuz I'm very hard on people in the restaurants. I expect the best guess I have to go back to Philly for a real roast pork or cheesecake. unless I bake my own bread and make my own. everybody knows roast pork. Italian has the Rosemary, the garlic and the pepper. forget about it. long hots I got I had the ask for was almost $2 0 of pepper. they weren't hot. I was a little disappointed in the pepper me. I'm very spoiled some tough on people. when they represent my hometown sandwiches it's got to measure up. they don't measure up to Philly sandwich but they have the flavor. the remnants of a Philly sandwich. they educate people and they probably do pretty good business most people à combination of flavors the Italians taught the whole world to eat so they're on the right track. in my opinion, they're not giving you a fair sandwich for the price. more meat hard crusted roll more spice in the pork. It's taken me a bit to write this because I have been trying to find the right words to describe our experience at Johnny Longhots. It was nothing short of amazing! We, unknowingly, walked in minutes before closing and were welcomed with wide open arms! Not only did the staff not shoo us out, but they let us take our time to ponder the giant, amazing menu. While waiting for our food the owner came out and schmoozed us up, telling us all the great things he's been doing and has planned.
