Drove here to pick up a carry out order on a Saturday at about 4:30 pm. The young lady who took the order over the phone was very kind and did not shame me for my horrible Korean pronunciation. The same lovely young woman was at the counter when I walked in. She was even sweeter in person and explained that one of the dishes was just being finished which was fine as I was just on time. I ordered the seafood pancake, pork golbi, vegetables and pork in black bean sauce, sesame chicken, and combination fried rice. Young lady insisted that I needed help getting the food to the car and her mom (the cook!!) came from the back and helped me carry it to the car. Mom was just as sweet as the daughter! The food was still hot once I got it to my son and daughter in laws house where we were eating. Everything was delicious! Friday, July 14, 2023 - 4 for dinner: First time here, we have been seeking a good Korean spot in the Sarasota area. This is the third entry. We arrived and were pleasantly greeted and seated. Clean utensils and placeware. Nicely spaced and organized seating. Our server was wonderful and helpful with the menu and options. The girls had some adult beverages. We got a seafood pancake and some pot-stickers for appetizers. I got a tofu vegetable stir fry that was prepared with nice ingredients and tofu product. The spice was nice and not too overpowering. The vegetables properly cooked and fresh but they were a bit soggy. The overall sauce was a little wet and the tofu was dark and a bit tough on the outside. 6/10 Another person got a kimchi soup/stew that was amazingly hot and fresh. He commented very tasty and as expected. He said he would order this again and would also look for this dish at other Korean restaurants. 9/10 The girls both got the traditional bibimbap with runny egg. This as as expected in a smoking hot pot with all kinds of ingredients. They reported the meat was a little tough and disappointing almost a minute steak or Philly cheesteak tough product. There was a lot of rice as well proportionately to the bowl size and a few more vegetables would have been nice. The rice was almost charred and burned on the bottom and not really edible. This was not the best or highest rated bimimbap my wife has had. 5/10. We like this place and it was good compared to other restaurants but out of the three so far in Sarasota, Osprey, Venice area it is in third place. read more

I was a little disappointed by my experience at Shilla. I ordered takeout and on the phone, the girl (who was very nice btw) didn't understand my request for extra side dishes despite me asking a few times. I was told that I would get side dishes alongside what I had ordered (I got tangsooyook, jjajangmyon, and Shilla wings) so I stopped asking because there was too much confusion. For the Shilla wings, you can choose a spice level (0-5), and I like my food spicy so I ordered it at a 4. The wings weren't spicy AT ALL. I was super bummed out that the wings tasted more sweet than anything. There wasn't even a hint of something peppery which was a let-down. I would keep this in mind if you want to have spicy chicken wings. If you want sweet chicken wings, then this would be good for you. The tangsooyook was good and so was the jjajangmyon. Unfortunately, though, the 'side dishes' I was told would come with the dishes turned out to be a takeout box that was majority rice and two things of kimchi. Don't get me wrong, I am a kimchi LOVER, but I was disappointed that for three dishes, there was only two little sides of kimchi and overcooked rice (the rice was, sadly, really dry). I gave this place a 3 because the communication over the phone was more of a hassle than it should have been, the chicken wings weren't what we ordered, and the sides weren't anything special. As authentic as possible is the way I would discribe the preparation of the food served in this tucked away mall restaurant. Spouse and I both had Dolsot Bibimbap which is served in a steaming hot stone pot along with traditional Kim Chee and other pickled vegetables. Complaint our protein was very short in quantity and hope management takes note. This spot serves beer as well as traditional Korean drinks like Chunga, Makgeolli and other rice based wine drinks which are delicious. Other dishes include pork, chicken, beef and ribs as well as squid, shrimp and fish served in many different combinations and preparations. Try their seafood pancakes. Han and her family not only serve wonderful Korean food but they also make you feel like you are part of their family. Everything is made to order so if you would like to add or take an ingredient out of a dish, it isn't a problem. They always bring a chilled glass with your choice of alcoholic beverage and a bottle of water for the entire table. Finding a needle in a haystack could be easier than finding an authentic Korean restaurant in Sarasota County. We found one, hidden behind Wendy's in a strip mall next to Beals. There was plenty of free parking and no reservation was needed. Bulgoki is my go-to item at a Korean restaurant. Marinated beef in special Korean sauce, this dish was done right plus the portion size was hearty. The white rice was hot and cooked properly. A Seoul vibe inside with the restaurant broadcasting Korean TV on both ends of the dining room they create exactly the ambience you would expect to accompany your Asian meal. Service was slow, but in this case our server apologized for the Sunday night rush. She explained that other nights are usually faster to get your food to the table. However, Shilla offers a unique value which you don't easily find even in Los Angeles, CA, NYC, or Duluth GA. To me, authentic Korean food means the taste that brings back my old memories. It can be from nice restaurants, street foods, or my mom's homemade meals. That being said, have you ever wondered what is like to eat homecooked Korean meals? Shilla is one of the rare Korean restaurants in US you can experiene. Some customers might complain Jjajangmyun or seafood Jjamgppong does not taste like authentic ones. Kimchi might taste different from what they used to eat from other Korean restaurants. To me, Jjajangmyun taste brought back my memory how my mom used to make it for me (used less oil and tried to make it healthier). I knew from the first bite, this wasn't the restaurant style food but it had a well balanced flavor. Jjajangmyun noodles weren't even the restaurant style either but I knew I was eating homecooked style food and was happy. Lastly, they don't even differentiate the charge on what kind of meat used on Jjajangmyun (you can pick either beef or pork, normally other restaurants charge more on beef). They also offer a bowl of rice for free if you want it. That shows the restaurant owner truly cares her customers. I am glad they survived pandemic last year and I am sure more and more customers will enjoy their food. This is our favorite Korean joint. I'm Korean and whenever I don't feel like cooking Korean food myself, this is the place I come to. Food is always excellent; my favorite is Padak (spicy scallion chicken) and dolsot bibimbop and my husband loves their haemul jjamppong (spicy seafood noodles) and haemul pajeon (seafood pancake). There's an option for vegetarians too. I love that they serve Korean alcohols as well. It's very inviting vibe, just like going to restaurant back home in Korea. It's not very easy to find tasty authentic Korean food in Sarasota - but Shilla is the place. I've had their bibimbap twice now and it is extremely good. It's certainly very filling and very tasty. You have the choice of also getting it in a hot stone for a few dollars more. I have yet to try it that way, however. The restaurant is very simple, almost like a hole in the wall. The server is very kind and helpful with her recommendations. Keep in mind that the food does take a good amount of time to cook but I can honestly say it's well worth the wait. read more

We were looking for a place to try Jjangmyeon that was relatively local to the port Charlotte/Arcadia area and found this place on yelp. After reading the reviews we knew we had to make a trip up. It's in a small parking lot with a publix so it can probably be easily missed, but it's definitely a place we want to frequent! We got the pork mandu, tteokbokki, galbi, and jjajangmyeon. This is probably my most visited restaurant in the entirety of the Sarasota-Bradenton area, and it is for a reason! The first dish I ever tried was the Stone Pot Bibimbap back in April of 2018, and almost 3 years later, I still think it's one of the best things on the menu. However, we've since had to get our Shilla fix via takeout. Needless to say, the beef bulgogi is always an absolute winner, and I have a personal affinity for the beef short ribs (galbi).
