Nice local irish pub that features decent bar food and a nice hometown bar feel. Have been coming here for years and always have a good time. Atmosphere is perfect to watch football or any sporting event at, as they have a ton of tvs. Their also known to be open for special events like ufc or football in Europe. Food wise, it's bar food, but the wings, quasadillas, and burgers are always good. They have a large selection of tap and bottled beer and usually have bucket specials. I threw a birthday party there. They were easy to communicate with a very reasonable prices. We got salad, beef and broccoli, chicken franchaise, penne with vodka sauce (excellent) and seasoned rice. Everything was great although the beef and broccoli needed some kind of sauce like even a premade stir fry sauce. But the food was delicious and everyone was happy. It was well run and I got the beer/wine/soda included which was well worth it. I booked the two hour package but they let us stay for 3. We brought a group of soccer playing teens and their parents here between tournament games. Though we didn't have a reservation, they had ample seating and televisions with games on (mostly American football). Everyone ordered and the food came out relatively fast. I had a burger and fries which wasn't at all greasy and my husband had a wrap. The server was a bit overwhelmed by all of the people she needed to serve but was courteous and got us what we needed. Went about 2 weeks ago for an early dinner with my wife... place is nicely redone and service was good. A big selection of burgers which is what my wife had and liked. I had the Chicken pesto sandwich that was very tasty but I thought it was a bit skimpy with only one thin chicken cutlet on the whole hero... if they want repeat customers they have to pump that up and give a better portion of chicken... my son in law ordered the buffalo chicken sandwich last week and said the same thing.... Good taste but skimpy on the chicken... it's an easy fix and hopefully they take care of it because I probably would've went back but am hesitant about the portion... let me know if that's taken care of read more

We went to the Johnny McGorey's in Lynbrook, but Yelp didn't have a listing for that location. This was our second time at this location. The first time we sat at the bar. The draft beer was cold and delicious. I had the. Thai Chili Chicken Tacos -very good, and my husband had the chicken tidbits with side salad - also very good. Service with the bartender Jen was excellent. The second time we also sat at the bar. Nicole was the bartender and she was great. My husband had a draft beer again, nice and cold. I had a margarita- excellent! We ordered the sampler, the wings were too well done as were the potato skins. The cheese sticks and tenders were good. I ordered the beef stew. It was very good, but it was more a soup than a stew. My husband had the Philly cheesesteak and salad and he liked it. We'll go back and give this place another try! My first time here for a Fri afternoon . It was clean and well lit. We sat at the bar and I ordered a B & T with the Fish & Chips .My brew had the perfect head. The fish was fresh and had the perfect crunch when I took a bite. My friend knew the bartender, she was spot on when she recommended the Fish & Chips. I'll be back . Hey I've been going here for a while, mainly for the wings on nights where I wasn't quite yet of age to drink but at the time things were different. (Talking 20+ years ago.) Needless to say I didn't really care what I was getting at the time but today that is a very different story. All the food was like a mushy appetizer you'd get at Cosco and microwaved it instead of the proper suggested cooking method an oven or deep fryer. Mcgoreys is a fine one step above a dive bar bar. In the weekends it's overcrowded with 21 year olds and sometimes the crowd is filled creepy old Men but the drinks are cheap enough and the food is regular bar food so if you're looking for a place to chill not on a Friday night, I would come by. read more

I've been to some good bars and some bad bars. This bar is probably the worst bar I've ever been to. First of all, I understand if someone breaks a glass. People are drunk --it happens. At McGorey's broken glass is the norm. Wherever you go, you'll be sure to find some broken glass. But, its a two for one offer. Not only will you find broken glass wherever you go, you'll also find the "kind of people" who like to prove themselves by breaking glasses, talking about how tough they are, and starting fights with people who glance at them in the wrong manner. Many of these people are stuck in their high school days. Now, lets talk about the beer. The tap is not changed often and really needs to be cleaned out. I'm not picky, but this is not hard to do and the staff at McGorey's fails at this. I've become a recent regular here and it's a great place minus the occasional Irish music. The staff is really nice and attentive especially Jackie Who is my favorite waitress. We went to Johnny McGorey's for dinner the staff was wonderful and they even took my hamburger off of the bill but the truth is that all of the food was over cooked. I ordered a burger medium and it was clearly well done. We also ordered the app sampler and the potato skins were burnt there was no potato I the potato skins ( burnt to a crisp). My daughter ordered fish and chips and the fish was burnt. We also ordered drinks during happy hour and we were charged full price. Needless to say we won't be going back. read more

Went last night for St. Patty's. They were serving us 12 oz. Warm bottles of Bud Light. We looked around and saw that people had 16 oz. aluminum bottles! For the same $5 price. I asked the bartender and he had the audacity to look me in the face and say they were the same size. I pointed to the 12 and the 16 on each bottle. I asked why we were being served those 12 while you had cold 16 oz. bottles. He walked away. We left after that. Sneaky. They lost 10 customers that night. read more

I use to go this place all the time years and years ago. It was, I thought, a great bar where me and a bunch of friends could get drunk, start fights and try to talk to chicks. In my mind, this was the greatest bar in the world. Unfortunately, I stopped in for the first time in years to watch my beloved Irish and my fond memories quickly evaporated. We walked in through the front and it did not look like they were seating people at the tables. And, of course, there was no one to ask. So we decided, reluctantly, to belly up to the bar. Or at least try to. The place was not packed but in order to get to the bartender we had to elbow our way through the collection of drunk grandpas who had surrounded the bar and were holding it hostage. We managed to get to the bar but not without pissing off the geriatrics. Unfortunately, the bar was staffed with only one bartender who didn't get to us for another 10 minutes. Inexcusable, especially since this place was empty, sans the old farts. We finally were able to order a drink and got very warm miller lites. Awesome. The whole afternoon was nothing but warm beer. Judging from the other reviews, it appears this place could upgrade their refrigeration units. After getting our warm beers, we retreated and quickly realized that the TVs over the bar were blocked by various decorations. Unless you were with the old-timers and were close to the bar, you weren't going to get an unobstructed view. I made due but it still sucked. Around halftime, some of the old guys decided they had enough and left. We seized this opportunity to grab a couple of chairs right at the bar. Got to watch the second half with no obstruction. Well, almost none. Turns out that the bar's drainage system must be right where we sat cause the smell was atrocious. It was like a combination of shit and urinal cakes waging war in my nose. The worst part was that the bar started to fill up and we couldn't move because we had ordered food, which under the smelly circumstances, was clearly the wrong move. I ordered a chicken sandwich with American cheese and a side of fries. The fries were fine but the sandwich sucked. The chicken was as thin as a slice of paper. Even the bartender commented that it was beaten within an inch of its life. My chick got the french onion soup and said it was different ("very liquidy - not thick at all."). McGorey's probably deserves a very poor rating but my youthful, fond memories do not allow me to do so. I am biased. At least I admit it. Probably will never order food from here again or sit where I did the other day, but I am sure I will be back even if that means warm beers. read more

From the decor which is garnished with whimsical touches like old sports equipment and such to the bartenders and waitstaff who are mostly Irish ex-pats, this joint has a chameleon like ability. During the day the crowd is a mixture of all ages, at night it transforms into a much younger ( but legal ) group. Wednesday's are big night with great .10 cent wings ( not a typo ). I've seldom sen a Wednesday, Friday or Saturday when the place wasn't packed. During most days Carol does a great job of working the bar and most nights Nil, Joe, and Kevin keep the drinks flowing. Recently renovated. More beers on tap. It's a lot cleaner in there now. I've been going to goreys for over 10 years. The bartenders are top notch and will always hook you up with a buy back. The food is the best bar food you can get. Amazing wings. Try the Cajun Irish Nachos (waffle fries, bacon, cheddar and mozzarella, green onions). Also the sandwiches are excellent. My favorite is the Favorite Chicken Sandwich (chicken cutlet, prosciutto, mozzarella, and a pink light tomato sauce). The steak sandwiches are phenomenal too. Soft bread always toasted nicely. The only downside to goreys is it can get packed on the weekends. If it's too packed there are a few other bars in that area that are good too. There is also a nice new wine bar next door if that's what you're into. All Massapequa needs now is a Za! read more
