This is about my 3rd time ever at Johnny Napkins. Each experience has been a good one. No issues with the staff, they're just here to make a good food & that's all that matters. It has a semi-typical pizza spot interior. The walls are plastered with their mascot, which is pretty cool. Lots of fun & funny sayings. Food service is pretty fast for pizza, a reasonable time for prepared dishes. I've had their penne vodka in the past, & it was very good. Today I just had slices. They're on Morris Ave, which is a very busy main road. You can park at the curb out front, or in a lot around back. There's a door to enter from the backlot, so no need to walk around the corner. My wife and I were in the area after stopping for an event. We were there from 11:00 to 1:30 without lunch and we're pretty hungry before heading home. I opened my yelp app to see what was local and saw the place Johnny napkins. From the name and location I assumed it was a college pizza place with subpar pizza. But after eating some reviews it seems like it was definitely worth trying. They had parking in the back which was convenient. The inside was pretty nice, they had a few booths and then a couple tables and then some counter seating. The pizza was on display and their case and they did have a lot of choices. I ended up going with the sweet chili chicken and cheesesteak which I really enjoyed. The woman behind the counter was also friendly and she brought the pizza to our table which was helpful because we had a small child with us. The only downside was the slices seemed a little small but I was full after eating too and splitting some garlic knots to my wife. So maybe it's just the shape in which they cut them. All in all I would come here again if I was in the area. The place is pretty nice inside. They had some lunch specials during the week or I think they took a couple bucks off entrees if you wanted to do that but their pizza was pretty good. I'm happy we stopped. OK.........my sister-inlaw raved about this place. I often pass this place and see people going in. I thought they were going into the dry cleaners right next door. Anyways,,,,,,,,,I decided to go there. I ordered a small pizza with onions, peppers and mushrooms to pick-up. By the time I got home and warmed it in the oven, I was starved. Well,,,,,,, the pizza was just OK. Not great but just OKAY. The pizza was cut haphazardly with small (tiny) and large slices. Very weird. The cheese-to-tomato ratio was wayyyyyyy off with chess at five times more than tomato sauce. The crust was very thin which was good. But, the edges were thick with baked in finger marks where the dough was pushed and edges rolled with fingers during the pizza making process. Don't get me wrong. The pizza was OK, not great. Kinda average mall pizza. I'm not giving up on them though. I will try them again. Exploring the menu. Tasting, observing and experiencing. After which,,,,I'll report back. If you order from this place, you might wanna think about picking it up yourself because their delivery person is constantly delivering pizza that looks like they tilted it completely sideways. You gotta go through all kinds of crap to complain to Uber, but it still doesn't fix the pizza that you now have big clumps of cheese in the corner of the box so I'm hoping that you will get Johnny napkins soon pay attention to the delivery people in the crappy way they're delivering pizza to their customers. read more

First time here and I was pleasantly surprised with all the different kinds of pizza squares and triangles. Their chicken and broccoli was fresh and delicious. The sauce had a nice sweetness to it and the crust was almost buttery. They are not huge but what it lacks in size it makes up in flavor. I was able to see a chicken parm and it looked amazing and a real foot long. Definitely will try it next time I return. read more

Stopped in here for a very quick to-go pickup after a long morning conference. With a ton of traffic on Morris Ave I was glad they had parking around back. Place smelled great when I walked in and while the pizza wasn't your normal Jersey/New York pie (smaller pies...thicker crust) they looked good. I was helped right away and was in and out in just a few minutes....long enough to heat up the slices and throw in a bag. I ordered a Margherita slice and a vodka slice and both were pretty tasty. Neither was too oily or sloppy which allowed me to eat them while driving. Why three stars? Place was clean, service was good, slices tasted good, but the slices were a little small and the thicker crust wasn't what I normally like. SO...there's NO reason someone else might not give them five stars, but it just wasn't my type of pizza. That said, I would definitely come back if I was in the area. read more

Johnny Napkins is the pizza spot my school always ordered from (Kean University) so I was familiar with the taste, I just haven't visited myself until recently! I decided on ordering the Johnny Sottosopra Pizza and the Cheesy Garlic Bread which was a HIT! The Sottosopra was absolutely delicious, and the slices fill you up. It fed my sister, my dad and I AND we had leftovers. The cheesy bread came in a box as well with two marinara dipping sauces. The price is great for the amount of cheesy bread you get, it lasted us a while too. Oh, and the service?! Great as always! This restaurant is in my neighborhood, my family orders for pickup quite frequently. Pizza is very good with many options to choose from. Place is clean and comfortable if you want to stay to eat. Has gotten somewhat pricey recently, but, then again, what hasn't? I have one major gripe and that is they consistently exaggerate the wait time, even when the order is done at the counter! Because I know that, I always show up at least 10 minutes early and 9 out of 10 times, my pizza is sitting on top of the oven and my hot appetizer on a shelf. As close as I live (less than 2 blocks) I have to put the pizza in the oven and the app in the microwave - infuriating. I've asked why they intentionally exaggerate the time and I was told (this week) they don't know how long it will take because they get so many orders! I have to believe there must be an algorithm or similar way to estimate. Makes no sense to me. How about tracking how many orders are in the cue, which must be part of their POS system, and being able to estimate timing based on that? The other night I was told 30-35 minutes, when it was actually done in less than 20. read more

Oh.My.God. I love this place! My family and I are new to Union and we had to look for our new go to pizza shop the offer other great items. I honestly never had the chance to take pictures of their pizza because of how quick we go through it but, we I was able to get one picture of my latest meal. I ate the "Go big or go home" burger which is a 1 pound burger and I was able to finish the whole thing in one sitting. I think if I could, I'd eat there everyday. I had a cheeseburger from jOHNNIE napkins, I must tell you that this is the most disgusting hamburger I have ever seen. It is no more than 4 ounces. It comes on a roll. It looks like a doughnut the small little tiny 4 ounce patty on a giant roll, I must say it was disgusting. $12.45 for something that wasn't worth $.50 and there was the size of a white castle hamburger I don't know how people get away with selling some crap like that. They should go out of business no wonder people go to Wendy's and McDonald's at least you know what you're gonna get. The pizza here is AMAZING! Fresh from the brick oven; a beautifully orchestrated process to guarantee each pie is made to perfection. When I return I will have to try their pastas. The service was polite, patient and considerate. That being said, I think front of house could acknowledge the guest that wait at the counter. I and others would stand waiting for someone to see us and say 'Hey there, we'll be with you.' -- but eventually someone did ask was I being helped. I told my mom she had to try this vodka sauce because it was so good . This time , I ordered and went to pick up our vodka pastas because I wanted to see the place . The store looks nice , clean , esthetically pleasing , and made me want to visit again because the pizza on display look delicious . Once getting back home, my penne vodka with shrimp was still delicious like before and this time the noodles were perfectly cooked . The penne vodka with chicken , the chicken was overly tough but the sauce and noodles were good . I would go again , as the vodka sauce is top tier .
