What a neat hidden gem! This was my first time going to the bars in this part of town. We went for the Doctor Who Trivia Night (dream come true)! They have trivia twice a week each week for free and there are prizes for the high scoring teams. Their food and drinks are overpriced, but that's to be expected with DC bars. The chips and guac were delicious as well as the happy hour margaritas!! They were strong but delicious! The service was excellent, both the servers and the trivia host. Johnny Pistolas is the spot to be in Adam's Morgan! The food is great, the customer service was great, and the ambiance is a vibe. Stopped by here for a friends baby shower in the day time (you can rent out the upstairs for private events) and ended up coming back on other nights for food/drinks and good vibes. They have some of the best espresso martinis I have had. They also have a Speakeasy called Riff Raff in the back! Will have to come back to try that. Definitely a chill spot to checkout. There's a reason why these folks were (according to Uber themselves) the most chosen drop off destination in Adams Morgan/Columbia Heights. Their tacos are LEGIT especially the fish and shrimp ones. And for our Halal friends, the chicken they use is halal. Staff is amazing, drinks are amazing (and priced insanely well), and in the evenings if you're into dancing and mingling it's always a great time. The ambiance is great. Really nice entrance floor with an extremely spacious second floor. If you haven't been yet you're likely hiding under a rock or are a hermit (awk!). Go already! read more

Thanks for the response, Johnny. You've made me aware that I put my secondary concern first, which seems to be misleading or confusing. My primary concern is the non-standard and misleading pricing for your burrito the way it was presented by whomever took my order over the phone, and the way it's listed, at least on the GrubHub menu (which Yelp directs to for late night ordering). Your employee didn't mention that meat - chicken - is a $6 upcharge. And as previously stated, the GrubHub / late night menu fails to mention up front that the base price includes no meat (or plant based meat alternatives). Both of these you could partially blame on the customer not very thoroughly reading your menu, however, the fact you have a vegetarian burrito listed elsewhere on your menu is a huge logical indicator, as well as standard menu practice / lifelong customer experience, that if you have a veg burrito and a classic burrito listed separately, that the classic is not going to be vegetarian. I mean come on. This is really basic logic. And if you're going to structure your menu in such a way, the restaurant industry standard is to mention either in the ingredients description or next to the price that the classic burrito includes no meat nor meat substitute when you have a vegetarian burrito listed separately. You'll find people less annoyed by the price if they are clearly made aware of it beforehand. read more

This could have easily been a 5 star, based on the food. The food was great. We had a party of 10, with 4 of them being kids. But everyone really enjoyed what they ordered. I had the fajita rice bowl, with chicken, and my wife had the classic burrito. We also had an order of chips n salsa. Everything was awesome. But the reason they drop to 4 stars, was the service. Maybe we just caught them at the wrong time, or there was an issue beyond their control. But from our side, it was not very good. We were only there for a little less than 1 hour, and we had 2 different servers. And when we finished our meals, neither was anywhere to be seen. After waiting a good 10 minutes, my daughter finally when up to the bar and grabbed the Manager, who checked us out. And pay attention when you're cashing out. They add a 5% charge for their staff, which is stated on the menu. Then when you get the device to swipe for payment, it will also offer you the typical 15/20/22% tip options. So you could end up tipping 27% if you're not paying attention. With all that said....give it a try. The food is great. read more

For one of our group events, we were happy to be accommodated here. The first floor is cozy with wood floors and soft lighting, a big bar along the left and various sizes of tables. Customers here seemed very happy. They have a selection of Mexican style foods like burritos, and many drinks and mixed drinks. Upstairs there are two levels, a middle bar area with open floor, and a top area that can be used for private parties. My main issue was the higher we went, the worse the beers tasted, mostly due to dirty tap lines. A few friends and I tested this theory and ordered pitchers at the downstairs bar, which all tasted clean and delicious. (If a staff member reads this, I'd have a professional change and/or clean the lines of the upstairs bars.) Regardless, we had a great time here! They allowed us to have separate checks, which is great for families. I ordered the burrito, which was delicious and served nicely - very filling for the price. I ordered a hazy IPA upstairs, and a DC pilsner pitcher downstairs to share. Prices on beer was a little high, but worth the fun times. Not bad but the service was confused and confusing. They were so busy trying to find a way to charge our party as much as possible for us being a group of 7 people that they couldn't listen to what we were trying to order well and it led to items not showing up and/or coming extremely late. They're disorganized and don't know how to handle groups. They just want try to force everyone in the table into the $48 per person option to make their lives easier. The food wasn't bad. It was actually decent and I'd eat it again but on the principle of their service, it's highly unlikely that I'd go back. My recommendation is to just go (during brunch anyway) with a group who's all dead set on dining fully and doing the specials. read more

I came here seeking pescatarian friendly tacos before a local DJ set and the night was a big disappointment. They did not have half of the menu so coming specifically for pescatarian-friendly tacos hurt my heart. There were some logistical issues over the week causing this. I settled on the vegetarian fajita bowl, and it felt like 45 min to come out, only for the rice to be hard. While our server Rob did his best, they had him serving the entire first floor. My friend had a mushroom and pollo taco and reported they were delicious, I am in no rush to come back. I only had chips and salsa, and the salsa left a lot to be desired. read more

Went to Johnny's to celebrate a friends birthday dinner. The environment was great and lively while not being too loud to talk, especially for its location. We had some different apps and mains. I ordered a torts and found it to be wayyyy too salty but everything else was good. All of their mains don't come with protein, so you do need to pay additional for them, making everything about $16 on average. A little overpriced I think, but not horrible. Margaritas were delicious. Our server Donovan was amazing and I'd return just for him. He made my friend's birthday so fun and we had a great time celebrating because of him. OK! I've got such mixed feelings about this review! We went to Johnny Pistolas for the St Patty's Day drag show! Let me start this out by saying the drag show was AMAZING! Whew the performers WORKED it and it was definitely a show! This was not the issue though. According to the event details, it said you needed to arrive at 11 to be seated and the show started at 12. We arrived at 11 and the staff seemed dumbfounded as to why we were there so early. They weren't ready and were not prepared. They told us to hang out at the bar and and we could start with a few mimosas! Great! When they flatly were ready, they had one person scanning cards and the line to get upstairs and grab a table was ridiculous! This was annoying bc we were the first people there! We tried to brush it off and have a great time! However, that was hard to do! First they didn't share what bottomless food they were providing. I have a dairy allergy and unfortunately have to have customizations. They never asked!! In fact we missed out on almost all the food. The bartender would serve one side of the room but would run out before he got to our side. He kept saying it was coming but it never did! and nor did the dairy free options except once and it was underwhelming. They served about 5-6 dishes and our table was served only TWO! It's a no for me next time! Or atleast until they get some organization going in the kitchen and service staff. So disappointing bc the show was epically fabulous! read more

I got in line for happy hour ten minutes before it was over on a Wednesday. The bartender intentionally moved slowly to pour drinks for the 3 people in front of us as well as us, charged us after she made the drinks and said she does not honor happy hour because the deals are automatically turned off after 730 (it was 7:32). I questioned this and the bartender gave me attitude like I was inconveniencing her by paying her. When you order three drinks and the happy hour deals combined for them combine to the price of another drink, not to mention an automatic 15% gratuity, this guarantees I will not return to this bar. This is financially predatory and borderline fraudulent practice if bartenders are stalling so they can make another buck. Truly a despicable practice. read more

I went here for the first time as part of a group. I don't go into DC much but thought I'd do something different. It was bachata night and I like the music and dance so was interested to go. The food was kinda cold when it got to me s as bad the tortillas soggy so o couldn't pick up. Maybe use two tortillas for the tacos. I can get the same tacos and better margarita in old town for $10 cheaper. The dj and music was good but started playing music loudly a little early so hard to hear yourself talk upstairs before the class starts. We visited Adams Morgan for the weekend from Philadelphia and stumbled upon this gem of a spot. As big fans of tacos and Mexican food, we were thrilled to have found such a great place on a whim. It has such a great dive-y bar type of feel, which we easily recognized and loved. These sorts of places always seem to have the most underrated but unreal food. We started with the elote (served in a bowl), which was incredibly savory with just the right amount of spice! The cauliflower tacos were hands down some of the best we've ever had. Most places batter and deep fry the cauliflower, so it was a refreshing change to have it perfectly charred. Next, we tried the braised short rib birria tacos, a must-try wherever they're offered--and these did not disappoint. The beef was so tender it practically melted in our mouths, and I could've happily drunk the consomme straight from the cup. The service was top-notch, with staff ensuring we were well taken care of throughout our meal. The manager even came by to check in, which added a nice personal touch. While they were out of tamarind for one of their signature cocktails, I ended up having one of the smoothest mezcal margaritas I've ever tasted. My partner opted for the spiced pear margarita, which was the perfect balance of fruity and spiced. Despite the minor hiccup with the tamarind, everything else made it well worth the visit. Friends invited me to a Drag Brunch here at this location. I must tell you it was one of the best brunch experiences that I have ever had. The drinks, food, and entertainment stayed in heavy rotation. The food was served by table and not buffet which was a plus in my book. I came here for the first time on Friday and I absolutely love this place. The drinks were really good, I had the raspberry spritz and the pumpkin spice espresso martini. The tostadas were good as well. I also had the oyster mushroom taco and I absolutely love it. The mushrooms were crispy and cooked to perfection.
