Do you know that feeling when you are on the highway, far from home, and all of a sudden your car…read morestarts making a horrible shrieking sound? I hope you don't. It's a terrible feeling. But should you ever find yourself in such a spot, the answer is simple. Slow your roll. Exit the highway as soon as possible. Find a mechanic to patch you up and get you back on the road. Oh yeah, and pray to god it's not Saturday, since most reputable mechanics take their weekends off. Well, on a recent Saturday such a fate befell me and my poor Mazda5. The car is old, but in good repair. It's serviced regularly, and just recently got a clean bill of health. So that brain twisting screeching sound was really quite a mystery. Did I mention I know nothing about cars? Still, I pulled into a nearby Denny's to look under the hood to see if anything was clearly broken. I looked under the wheel well to see if some piece of metal snapped. And I saw nothing. So I hopped on the Yelp app and found that the Meineke next door was not just open, but also well reviewed. The team there saved my life. Not literally of course. As it turned out, my life was never in danger. But they were able to get my car on the lift, and take it out on road, all within about an hour of my showing up. They determined that it was nothing. Maybe it had been something. Whatever small piece of road debris had gotten into the wheel well, had apparently worked itself out. They could have told me something was wrong with the bushings. I could have been taken for hundreds of dollars at that moment. But instead, they sent me back on the road with a smile, and refused to take any money for their time. Sure, they didn't actually fix anything. But their trained eye gave me peace of mind. And that's worth a lot. Thank you random Meineke. You guys rock.

I ask if they found the hole in the tire and they tell me it's the TPM sensor and it's gonna be expensive to replace. I've been filling the tire up with air every 2 days for weeks. Either they didn't even look at my car or they don't know what their doing. If you don't got time at the end of the day to look at my car that's fine, but don't lie to my face. *Update* Went to another mechanic and they said I had a bad tire valve stem and replaced immediately.

I had a very disappointing experience at Mavis Tire in New Windsor, NY, and I won't be returning…read more I made an 11:00 AM appointment on Friday, July 3 to repair a slow leak in my front right tire. A simple tire repair should not have taken 2 1/2 hours, yet that's exactly how long I was there. What I don't understand is why the technicians spent time opening my hood and inspecting mechanical components that had absolutely nothing to do with the reason I came in. I wasn't there for a vehicle inspection or maintenance--I was there to have a tire repaired. My tire should have been fixed promptly, especially since I had an appointment. To make matters worse, I was charged $43 to repair a tire with a nail in it. Most reputable tire shops charge around $20 for a standard plug-and-patch repair. The biggest disappointment came a week later when the tire started leaking again. I had to take my vehicle to another tire shop, where they repaired it correctly. While waiting, I also noticed that the customer experience left a lot to be desired. The restroom was dirty, the waiting room had uncomfortable chairs, and the television was broken, making an already lengthy wait even more unpleasant. So, after waiting 2 1/2 hours, paying what I consider an excessive price, sitting in an uncomfortable waiting room with a dirty restroom and broken TV, and then having to pay another shop to repair the same tire correctly, I have to ask: Why would I ever go back? Based on my experience, I cannot recommend this location.
