We ordered a burgers and milkshakes. It was very tasty. The service was slow compared to the amount of people there. I feel like it shouldn't have been as slow because there was only 4 tables filled. This is the first time me and my fiancé have ever tried this place. The FOOD was amazing, the SERVICE was absolutely amazing we were served in a timely manner and [[HIGHLIGHT]]the restaurant was very clean and well put together.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] 10/10 would recommend this place if you're on vacation, work trip, or even as a local. This is our second trip to the island and we've stopped at Johnny Rockets each time. The first time was a last minute stop just 30mins before closing. They sat our group without a problem and our young waiter was so sweet and gave us great service. The food was great! The second time was the exact same- great food, great service and it's not packed like all the other restaurants. We also love that they make vegan shakes of any flavor! They're delicious! We'll be coming back each trip for sure! read more

Our server Kaden greeted us the moment we entered with a smile and polite. The shakes and cherry Pepsi were amazing and fresh! Then the food came out pretty fast and super fresh and so good!!! I walk in at 9:40pm. They close at 10. I sat at the bar and was promptly, and politely, informed: "we are only doing carry out." No big deal, except there are literally 5 tables seated and being served. Maybe they stop dine in at a certain time? I don't know but it was weird. Anyways I got my food and left. Ate outside on the walk back to the hotel. Ordered a classic burger. It was delicious. I don't understand why they add pickles and relish. It seems one or the other would be fine. But no big deal I just took off then 9 pickles and ate my burger. Very yummy. I'll be sure to go earlier next time as to not inconvenience the paid staff :( read more

I stopped here after just arriving to SPI, there was only one other couple in the restaurant. We were seated right away and greeted right away by a kind young man. Pretty nice place. We arrived with a party of 5 and were seated promptly. Drinks came fast and the shakes were delicious. Restaurant was clean and staff was friendly. Food was tasty and like others have stated it's fast food but more on the sit down and dine experience. Restaurant was a very short walk. I had the onion rings and they were cooked perfectly. I had the smokehouse burger and cheese fries with bacon. The food was ok. The bacon on the burger wasn't completely cooked. The service was ok too. The biggest disappointment was "why do you go to Johnny Rockets?" The singing and the dancing along with the meal. None of that at this location unless you count the tv commercial on in the background with the volume off. read more

Atmosphere was hot, customers were fanning themselves. 15 customers. Three hard working,cooks 2 slow servers on scene third missing. Was told to wait for that server, she would be arriving soon? ‍. Arriving? After 15 minutes, were not even offered drinks even when sitting in front of server at the bar. Walked out. Disappointed. Not the same Johnny Rockets atmosphere where I've been too. Manager, what's going on? I'm glad I'm not Lee Sanders (on vacation) and witnessing this. Wish I could taste the food. Looked like the cooks were at least motivated. read more

This was the most disgusting hamburger I have ever eaten. I love Johnny Rockets and have been to a few of them around the United States. I ordered an original and it was soaked with either mayo or relish that looked almost white or a combo but I threw that half of the bun away. Then went to bite into the burger and it was not fresh at all. I should have known to move on I guess cuz I ordered on Uber Eats and it got cancelled after 40 minutes and then I reordered to pick up. My Husband's burger was soggy too. We gave it a 1 cuz the onion rings and tots were good. GROSS and soooo disappointed!!! read more

I have had a troubled history with this franchise. The first time location I visited was at the outlet mall in San Marcos. After waiting 45 minutes I asked the waiter about our food. He did not have an answer, so I went inside to ask a manager. The manager was talking to our waiter and told him that he gave our order to another table. I approached the manager and asked if we would be next and I was told no, that I'd have to wait 15 minutes, so I left. The second time I visited this franchise was in South Padre Island. I asked for a grilled chicken with mustard instead of mayonnaise; however my sandwich was swimming in Mayo. The manager apologized profusely and they cooked me another chicken. Sandwich was tasty hence my 4-star rating. read more

Overall Rating- 3.7 SUCH GREAT FRIES, and the burger was pretty good too! Also, the restaurant was very clean which is always a plus. Our waiter, was very polite and attentive. This place reminds me of a "Freddy's" or "Mooyah", but the burger patty just wasn't as great, in my opinion. Still, the burger was pretty good. I tried one of their milkshakes as well which was pretty good too. Definitely will come back again if I'm ever in this area again! read more

SLOOOOOWWWWW!!! In town for vacation came for dinner. Took them 15 minutes to take our drink order then another 10 minutes for our drinks to come. I usually don't settle for a fast food chain when I'm out of town, and this place reinforced my logic behind this. The food wasn't great, and for a place with only 10 total customers, they took forever. I love burgers. People have a love for pizza and I think nothing is better than a burger and fries. The burger was great and it tastes as you would expect a big burger to taste. The fries were lame and lacked seasoning. I also ordered the Philly fries and you shouldn't waste your time with them. Simply put for you all... average food, slow service, typical burger chain and way overpriced. I'll stay away from this chain from now on. read more

The chicken-fried steak plate was a hit, I didn't even get a chance to take a solo photo. We had no room for desserts, and leftovers were taken home and appreciated. For dessert, I ordered a crème brûlée, which was absolutely delicious. The custard wasn't too sweet but had great flavor otherwise, and it had a thick, crunchy sugar topping. The dark spot on the topping may have been burnt just a bit, it wasn't bad, but I did not enjoy that as much as the rest. Overall very tasty. My wife ordered the Italian cheesecake, which looked absolutely stunning. A very large slice of a ricotta based cheesecake with a blackberry topping. It was smooth, rich, and absolutely delicious. I started with the mozzarella sticks. They were exactly what you'd expect--nothing particularly memorable, but they satisfied the craving. For my entrée, I ordered the deep-fried seafood basket with all three options: shrimp, oysters, and fish. Everything was perfectly seasoned and fried to a crisp without being overly greasy. It came with cocktail sauce, tartar sauce, and a small serving of coleslaw that balanced the heaviness of the fried foods nicely. The jumbo shrimp were sweet, plump, and succulent, while the oysters and fish were also delicious--exactly what my soul ordered. What truly elevated the evening was the atmosphere. Live music and a spectacular fireworks show over the water. The singer's rendition of the national anthem was absolutely beautiful and gave me goosebumps. Between the food, gorgeous ocean views, live entertainment, and fireworks, this was a memorable dinner and a great way to spend a Friday night on South Padre Island.

My biggest critique was that the soft bagel, warm egg, and lox lacked a bit of textural contrast. Even so, the individual components were delicious. The SPI Breakfast Platter was hearty, well-executed, and exactly what you'd hope for from a classic breakfast. I'd love to come back the next time I'm in South Padre and try their lunch menu, the dessert case was very enticing.

The only slight issue we had was spotting a cockroach crawl from under one of the chairs when we pulled it out. Johnny Rockets was a highlight of our trip to South Padre Island! The food was so good that my family and I ended up eating there three times--basically every day of our stay. Service was really efficient and nice -- the lady working the front counter was super helpful and very nice. The place was clean, the restroom was clean, plenty of tables for large groups, and a large bar area. I also noticed they have happy hour specials. The one downside: the salsa/sauce selection was pretty much nonexistent -- just Tapatío, and the sauces that came with the hook-and-cook were a low-end cocktail and tartar sauce. Honestly that's the one thing about the whole island -- nobody seems to have any good salsa. In general, if you're doing a hook-and-cook, I'd suggest coming here. Would recommend for that, and I'd return if I were doing it again.

Trying new places in the area around SPI - 1 of 2…read more One night, I was craving something like meat loaf. One of the long running restaurants on the island - Padre Rita Grill - used to have it on their menu, at least one night a week. Padre Rita Grill has closed. It was a 3 to 4 star kind of place and it would have been convenient. In hunting around for diners, I found Bayside Cafe. It's close to TX 100, beyond Port Isabel in the direction of Los Fresnos and Harlingen. They get very good reviews and they had a meat loaf special one day of the week. I got there in time to make sure they didn't run out. So, I think I've figured it out: Taco Tuesday, Filet-O-Fish Friday, and Meatloaf Monday are all alliterations so that they are easy to remember and work with. Bayside Cafe is exactly what I expected: small, quaint, and folksy. If it's comfort food you want, they have it. The meatloaf was a good sized portion and the mashed potatoes helped. I enjoyed it. The price was appropriate. The service was much like the locale - quaint and folksy. In other words, that means they were friendly. I'm going to bring this up because, while funny and predictable, it took away from the meal. Upon entering and being seated, I saw that they had Fox News on. People started to leave and the restaurant thinned out. Some of the remaining seated patrons made comments along the lines of how Fox News leans and one or two of the employees agreed with some understated but still understandable banter. It never fails. With a waitress in San Diego who looked like she had majored in saving the whales at UC Santa Cruz, she was curt to our table because I, or we, looked like "the establishment." Here, at Bayside, sporting short hair with no facial hair, and wearing clean jeans and a polo shirt, I must have been seen as tribe, so people just proceed to talk about their spin on current events in front of me ... or directly to me. Both parties would have guessed incorrectly. I look at these anchors up on the screen whose silver spoon factor is off the charts and you've got small town Americana, who they would probably snub, helping them succeed? What's up with that? I had a feeling that, as the herd was thinning out, this experience would come down the pike before I left ... and it did. Check it, please. You get up and pay at the register when you leave if using a card. I had a good meal, got the meatloaf I was looking for (and isn't as easily found as people would think), and headed back to the island. I think I understand the dynamics. Bayside Cafe isn't on the beaten path, so not on the island nor even in the shopping areas of Port Isabel. It's a little ways up from TX 100, so my guess is that they pull in more locals, which includes retirees from nice subdivisions, and fewer tourists, and "understand" their demographics through that lens.
