Found this hidden gem thanks to Yelp! A small, cozy, hole in the wall, lil mom & pop that is obviously well known to locals. It was full upon arrival at 11:00 AM. Our waitress was very friendly, helpful & prompt. Our food took a bit of time (20-25 mins) as advertised on a sign above the register (fresh food not fast food), so I can't complain. That being said I wouldn't recommend it on a time crunch. But, it was delicious & very well served so it's worth it if you want a home-style meal & have the time. Looking forward to coming back & trying more.

This is our go to place for breakfast. The breakfast menu is pretty extensive. We love the breakfast tacos, which are large. Be prepared to wait on weekends, it's that busy. If you do have to wait it is well worth it. They make their own hot sauce red & green. Green being hot and red not so much. The prices are very responsive. Five read more

After going to this establishment for months ordering same plate. I was treated horribly. Even bullied by male waiter saying I had to pay for my plate even if it was not what I ordered. He said this when I didn't have a plate in front of me I had sent it back because it was wrong. I never touched or consumed food and was told I had to pay for it. All along owner behind counter with evil smile on her face. On previous visits was told by two employees how owners were very unfair and mistreated staff. No customer service at this place. The customer is not right at this place. To threaten and bully a customer with obvious consent of owner is not acceptable. Do not go to this place, no food is worth this treatment. Me and people I shared this with will never give our business to them. Too many restaurants in Weslaco to choose from, who do know meaning of customer service. If you don't believe me try to get your order corrected and you will also experience this unjust treatment. I never complained before even when I got hair in my food but this was unbelievable. read more

Went with my family to eat at this place. Worst mistake we could've have done. Our experience was awful. Starting with the chips and salsa to my main dish. Ordered a popular plate here in the valley, the Tejano Plate. Yesterday's leftovers and preheated meat from the carne guisada was unpleasantly dry and cold. The separately added discolored gravy blanketing the stew meat made it look worst. The addition of overcooked potatoes and carrots was to much to handle that I had to return the plate, which I still payed. Won't mention the other plates, but this is not a recomendable place to eat. This place gets crowded on the weekend so be prepared to wait or time your arrival different from when I did. The breakfast taco I had was sooo good. Be sure to ask for homemade hot sauce as well. It was pretty crowded and our waiter forgot one person's food and got another order incorrect-one star docked for that! read more

Decided to stop here because we had been on the road for hours and it was close by and had breakfast. Pleasantly surprised! Small, family run business. Friendly waitstaff. Food took a little while to come out but was worth the wait. Definitely fresh and homemade. Menudo is top notch! Everything was delicious. And the kicker... a meal for 4 under $25! If I could leave no stars, I would. I understand the low staff and wait time for fresh food. Took 10 mins to get acknowledge by a staff member. Waited over an hour and never got our food. We asked several servers to check on our order. They said they would and never gave us an update. Many parties came after us and they all got their order. Ended up having to leave because our food never came. read more

To establish an honest review about Janie's Cafe, I have to start with saying that it's very much, just another restaurant. From the moment I stepped in, I recognized that it anything but well-kept. The bathroom doors were wide open, the tables were wobbly, and I witnessed other customers looking upset and annoyed with no food on their tables. The customer service was nonexistent. Walking in, I didn't know whether I'd be seated or if I had to sit myself and was unacknowledged by the servers when standing at the front. After seating ourselves and ordering, it took 45 minutes to receive the food. Throughout this time, no refills were given and they didn't ask if we wanted chips to wait, which is more than common at a Mexican style cafe restaurant. After the long wait, we received our food, and we were less than satisfied. The tortillas were cold, the eggs were mediocre, the only thing good we got was a waffle, which me and my girlfriend ended up sharing. P.S. Stay away from the biscuits and gravy, it leaves a film in your mouth from being so fatty based. read more
