    The Godfather

Delicious foot sub. I ordered the Godfather. It was my first time here. It came to $16. A bit pricey but I would come back

I went there for a breakfast sandwich. Maybe breakfast isn't their thing, but the meat in my breakfast sandwich was old. It tasted old and gross. It made me sick. Inside the place was not well kept. The guy behind the counter was friendly.

I've had both the sandwiches here as well as some of the "under the counter" offerings. Haven't had a bad sandwich here, and the dirty rice/spicy chicken combination has always been a winner. The owner can come off as a bit gruff, but that doesn't bother me in the least, he still seems like a good guy. Only dings against the place is the size (small = crowded) and in the summer heat, the next door chicken business gives the area a, uh, "distinct" odor. Still hasn't stopped me from visiting though

Finally had a chance to eat here. Let me tell you the food is tremendously good. This deli does a booming business. I tried the chicken cutlet classic. It was a huge chicken cutlet with lettuce tomato and a generous slice of American cheese. It came on a delicious seeded kaiser roll. It was fantastic. The chicken cutlet was so large it stuck out of the roll by 4 inches. They have daily specials and also do catering. I had a chance to talk to the owner whose name is Russell. He told me most of his customers get their food to go. The place is not big but the grinders are huge!!!. They have some indoor seating. I noticed that Johnnie Salami has won a few awards. If you ever get a chance, give this deli a play. You won't be disappointed.

The Ciccone family has origins from Naples, Italy. The family-owned market specializes in fresh produce, freshly baked breads, prepared dishes, various Italian imports, and catering services. In 2009, the Ciccone family purchased the Orange Street Market in New Haven's East rock neighborhood and turned it into P&M's second location. A third location opened in Hamden in 2022, but it closed down the following year. In recent years, Mario & Maria have taken a step back and let their sons Bruno and Joseph "Pino" take over. Bruno handles business at the original Branford location while Pino runs things at the New Haven location. Pino also owns Enoteca Cassanova (a liquor store), which is right next to the New Haven location. My family and I just visited P&M Orange Street Market for the first time. This was our first visit to either of P&M's locations. We really liked the market which featured a lot of great fresh foods, prepared dishes, and other products. But the main reason we came to P&M was for their pizza! Beginning in 2024, P&M began hosting "Pizza on the Patio" every Wednesday from 4-8pm throughout the warmer months. Their pizza trailer parks in front of the storefront and slings up delicious wood-fired pies. The chalkboard menu changes up every week, depending on which ingredients are fresh and available. After looking over the menu, we ordered and shared a "Cheese Pizza", the "High Heat" (Margherita w/ cherry peppers & hot honey), and "The Charmer" (circular panini w/ burrata, mortadella, arugula, cherry tomatoes, topped w/ EVOO, balsamic glaze & crushed pistachios). Holy moly! This pizza was fantastic! Excellent sauce and just the right amount of char around the edges of the crust (which you don't always see with wood-fired pizza). All of the toppings tasted super fresh too! "The Charmer", which was essentially a panini-pizza hybrid, was very interesting. The friendly staff told us that it was the first time it was ever featured on the menu. We really enjoyed our experience at P&M Orange Street Market and hope to return for another pizza night soon!

The place had a few people in, but I was quickly helped! I placed an order initially for the chicken, broccoli, rabe, but they were out of some ingredients (which makes sense, looks like they were processing some large orders) so I instead opted for a chicken bomb, one of their hot sandwiches. I went for a sub (over a roll) and got a drink, my total came out to around $22. I grabbed my drink from the side fridge, and was told it would take a few minutes. There are a few tables and a TV playing, so a nice place to wait, and eat if you're in a hurry. There are also several tables outside which would be nice to eat at in the warmer months. Quickly, my sandwich was ready and warm! The person working gave me a bag which she had added napkins to. The sandwich was significantly bigger than expected. Honestly for me, two meals but easily could have been three. Generous with portions of everything too. I will definitely be back to try more of their sandwiches and their pizzas!

The market carries a variety of products including olive oils, canned tomatoes, antipasto specialties, pasta, and various Italian imports. However, they really shine when it comes to their prepared foods. The market makes a number of dishes in house which include fresh bread, deli sandwiches, hot Italian sandwiches, wraps, soups, salads, pasta dishes, stuffed breads, calzones, and even New Haven-style pizza! Del Monaco's also offers catering services. I recently stopped at Del Monaco's for lunch. I had been there once before and I remember that their sandwiches were pretty good. I haven't been back in a while because they have VERY limited hours: only Tuesday through Saturday from 10:30 am until 3 pm. I happened to have a day off from work, so I was able to get to the market in the early afternoon. I ordered their "Chicken Cutlet & Broccoli Rabe" sub on fresh Italian bread with melted mozzarella. It was phenomenal! I decided to make the most of my visit and ordered a large "Mozzarella Pizza" to bring home for my family for dinner. Not long after ordering the pizza, I overheard a staff member yell out, "No more pizza orders." They had run out of dough for the day, and I got my pizza order in just in time. My family and I were also planning on going to the beach the following day, so I decided to order a couple of more deli sandwiches to bring along. I ordered an "Italian Dream" (prosciutto, fresh mozzarella, roasted pepper, Stella table cheese) for myself and an "Italian Combo" (ham, salami, pepperoni, provolone) for my wife. My family and I all enjoyed the pizza later that day for dinner, and my wife and I loved the sandwiches at our beach trip the following day. There aren't too many Italian markets like this left. Del Monaco's is a real gem and I highly recommend stopping by for one of their delicious Italian sandwiches or a tasty pizza pie.

They failed to accurately present the price of an item, I pointed this out at the counter to the entirely polite cashier. The cashier told me that an item (package of single serve Oatly packages marked to be sold together with a single expiration date on the package) was meant to be sold individually not as a package as it was marked, and he wasn't sure how much it was. He called the manager over. I point out that the highest priced Oatly was a little under $6 where they had packaged it and that their sign by the cashier clearly states that if an item rings up for a higher amount they will give the item for free up to $20. I was happy to pay the amount it was marked for or the amount of the highest listed Oatly. The manager, who is rarely in the store, told the cashier it was twice as much. I calmly told the cashier that I had been coming here for a decade (he knows me) and if this is the way he is going to do business I will not shop here for at least 3 months. Once I said I was discontinuing the business transaction, while the cashier remained a calm, normal human being, the manager began yelling, shoving his finger towards my chest, waiving his hands like a maniac, bitterly yelling at me for deciding not to shop there anymore. I respectfully told him, sir, please calm down, you made a business decision and I am also making a business decision not to shop here for at least three months given the false advertisement. The manager spiraled into a threatening tantrum and followed me out the store into the street. I would like the store owner's contact so I can report the incident. I do not tolerate threatening bullies when I trying to shop, especially at night.

The two had worked as butchers when they first immigrated to New Haven. When they heard that a local sausage company named Phil's Sausage Kitchen on Congress Avenue was going bankrupt, the brothers borrowed $1,000 to purchase the location. The Hummel Brothers had both trained as 'wurstmachers' (sausage makers) in Germany and wanted to make the finest products available to local consumers. Thus 'Hummel's Premium Quality Provisions' was born, and it didn't take long for the company to become a household name. They moved to their current larger location in the 1970s. Today the company is run by their grandchildren. The company's best-selling product has always been their hotdogs. Hummel Brothers were one of the first sausage companies to stop using red dye and make hotdogs with their natural color. Varieties they make include Natural Casing Frankfurters, Skinless Frankfurters, All-Beef Frankfurters, Red Hots and Cocktail Franks. Hummels' Hotdogs are widely available at supermarkets and restaurants throughout Southern Connecticut. If you buy a hotdog from a hotdog vendor in the area, chances are that it's a Hummels' Hotdog. Hummel Brothers also make a variety of other meat products including bratwurst & knockwurst, kielbasa, spiral ham & ham steaks, corned beefs, and various deli meats. They also have a retail store and deli at their production facility where you can buy delicious sandwiches. I recently stopped in for a delicious Pastrami, Egg & Cheese breakfast sandwich. Hummel Brothers have been very special to me for as long as I can remember. The first hotdog I ever ate was a Hummels' Hotdog and I rarely eat other brands. I also have a family connection. My great-grandfather Heinrich "Henry" Klein was a trained butcher and immigrant from Cologne, Germany.
