The service was great! The food was good & we will return. This is definitely a place to go that's close to our home.

My family and I had been at this place for a while, and it doesn't disappoint. There are two sections that I can tell, one with a bar and one without one. I believe they have a private dinning area too (one of the school events happen there). [[HIGHLIGHT]]It's a very colorful place and has an inviting atmosphere.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]The bar has a bunch of TVs, for those who want to catch the game.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The food honestly looks average, but the taste is delicious. It's also vegetarian friendly. My wife, the vegetarian, asked if they can customize the Tex-Mex Enchiladas (instead of the plain cheese version), and they did. They made her a spinach and cheese, and she loved it. Two of their bean choices were vegetarian (not the charro beans which has bacon), and I think they had two vegetarian rice option too (no meat broth added). My oldest got the stuff avocado with chicken, which she liked a lot. My younger kids got the chicken nuggets, which kept them happy. I got the Ivannita, which is a little bit of everything. If you are hungry, this is a good option, as the Crispy Beef Taco comes out first. The taco shell was freshly fried. They use to have a free ice cream section, where you can get a mini cone with soft serve, but it's not there anymore. :( Overall, this is a great place to eat at with the family. read more

Very very very surprised! I'm not Into commercial style Mexican restaurants but this restaurant exceeded my expectations. The customer service was on point but most importantly the food quality and taste was great. The mahi mahi tacos are fresh flavorful and juicy. The fish was not overcooked .and grilled perfectly . The combo fajitas chicken and beef very flavorful and not dry and the same for chicken enchiladas. This is a hidden gem in the community with a nice happy hour . read more

What a difference a year makes! I had given up on this place but yesterday as my better half and i were deciding on where for dinner i convinced her that we should give it one more try. A wonderful surprise! Stopped by this restaurant to have a quick Tex Mex meal. My kids loved the queso that came in the fried tortilla bowl! It was a bit small but was enough to hold a table of 4 over just until the meal came. I ordered a combo meal which was just enough food. I was expecting a larger quesadilla but luckily I wasn't too hungry otherwise I might have needed to order something else in addition. Service was pretty good, apart from the missing tortillas for fajitas which took some time to get. We came at 5:30pm on a week night so there was a wait or much of a rush which was a bit weird to have to wait 7-10 mins for tortillas. Tonight June 6, 2026 I enjoyed dinner and drinks here with two friends.The service and food do not disappoint. Saul was our server and did a great job including help me select a delicious tequila. I enjoyed a new item Pollo Asada that was delicious! My friends soup and salads were also quite good. One and DONE. The service at the hostess desk was very disappointing. She asked us to wait five minutes for a booth to be cleaned, just to give it to another couple that came in after us. When I mentioned that we were waiting on that booth, she said did you leave a name and number which I replied no you told us to wait 5 mins. The hostess shook her head like she never said that. Anyhoo...we were seated, at a table, I ordered the Good Juju which was ok. My Hubs ordered the classic margarita and it was good. Our appetizer was queso which was good but our entrees could have been better. The Hubs ordered Del Mar but the shrimp weren't seasoned just wrapped with jalapeño and bacon grilled. We'd eaten at the original Johnny Tamales in Pasadena many years ago. It was really good. This new location is a lot closer to home and it's just as great. My wife and I shared a Combo Matador platter. It was very tasty. Two Del Mar Shrimp, two fall off the bone JT BBQ ribs, Grilled sausage, Beef and chicken fajitas. The meal came with guacamole, pico de gallo. cheese, rice.....we substituted more refried beans for the rice...and flour tortillas which are made in house. We shared a JT frozen peach margarita, it went down real easy. Discovered they do chicharron (low carb option instead of chips) so we got some. The complimentary chips and red and green salsas were very good. The chicharrons came with two more sauces, one of which had some serious heat...me likey! We kept driving by and kept saying we have to go and try them out... Well, that day was yesterday. We wanted to have a nice lunch out on a Sunday afternoon, and It was a beautiful sunny day outside. There were seven tables next to big windows, five of those were booths that would have been a great fit for my wife, my son, and myself. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Instead they seated us at a very oddly shaped table in the darkest corner of the restaurant . On a bright Sunday afternoon at a table in the corner and no lights. I could not even see the menu without having to stand and turn my menu to the windows.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]The food did not look appealing in the dark. And when I looked at other people eating their food looked great under good lighting.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] It was not a pleasant dining experience. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The oddly shaped table, like a half circle roughly 6 foot across meant me and my wife had to reach full arms length to grab for a chip and dip for salsa dripping at all across the table and over everything on it.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Since we are on the subject of chips -- this is the only Mexican restaurant that I have ever been to that serves cold chips. It like they keep them in the fridge. One of the best things about going out to eat a at a Mexican restaurant is the fresh piping hot chips. I was graving Chili Relleno but they put bacon on it, then I was thinking Chicken Chimichanga but they fill theirs with ground beef. I ended up ordering something that sounded much better than it tasted having more sauce than sustenance. All of their beans have pork in them so my food only came with a small side of rice. They didn't even offer me extra rice to replace the beans like anyone else would have. They could have made this 100% better than what it was by asking us where we want to sit, of asking us if we have a seating preference like any other restaurant. Try serving hot chips, offer vegetarian option for beans do you not know roughly half the population does not eat pork products for one reason or another? And why on earth would you put bacon on Chili Relleno? Did I mention they are over-priced, meal for my wife, my kid, and myself was just under 100.00 with a 20% gratuity out of courtesy. read more

It is our neighborhood restaurant and we pass by daily. Decided to try it during holidays. Surprisingly it was near empty. This was a 5/5 all around. Starting with the food: queso was tasty. It wasn't anything too crazy but good, fresh queso. The salsa's were really good and tasted super fresh. The halal fajitas for 2 actually fed 3 and they were piping hot with lots of onions under. The fresh tortillas (you see them make it there) were soo good. Both corn + flour were amazing. Complimentary unlimited chips + tortillas + ice cream makes this place feel like you're taken care of right. Jonno's service was really great. Unbelievable! I was billed $2.25 extra because my daughter wanted bbq sauce instead of ketchup with the fries. The waiter said his manager told him to charge it that way. The fries were super undercooked, just completely white. Service was very poor today. Disappointing! read more

Johnny Tamales is a go to for my family. All 3 of us love their steak tacos. The meat was cooked perfectly. The restaurant is nicely decorated. The seating area behind the check in desk has these pretty big decorative balls hanging from the ceiling. They have free vanilla, chocolate and swirl ice cream. The service was pretty good and we were greeted by the manager. Such a friendly atmosphere. My drink was nice and strong! Came here because we saw they have halal options. Upon arriving we were seated immediately but the server wasn't notified that she will be serving another table and it took a while to get service. After she finally made her way to us we were directed to the halal menu. We ordered fajitas for 2 which comes with sizzling beef and chicken fajitas and beans, rice, guacamole and pico for 2 in two plates. Our daughter had the chicken quesadilla. The halal menu takes longer to cook. The food was amazing, the guacamole tasted fresh, and they also give free self serve icecream which is in the front. Plenty of parking. Went on a Sunday around 6 and it was already packed. Nice decor inside and nice bar seating area. Service was great, many different servers came by our table to check on us throughout the night. Really enjoyed the salsa that came with the chips. Seafood enchiladas and fajitas were both good, perfectly cooked and flavorful - definitely would recommend! Probably one of the better tex-mix places in the area. I'll start with a positive note for this review. The service was excellent. The hostess was very nice and welcoming and had me seated right away. My waitress was kind and attentive. The restaurant is really pretty inside and nicely decorated too. Our waitress brought water out right away and made sure to let me know that she was ready to serve us whenever we were ready. The menu is pretty simple and basic. It's very Tex Mex for sure. The chips tasted like they were store-bought. The only dip I cared for was the salsa. They bring out two bowls of salsa dip, one red & one green. The red one was OK, and the green one was flavorless and cold. Not very appetizing. I chose to play it safe and ordered a bowl of soup and salad. The soup was a tortilla soup, which was pretty good and had a good amount of chicken in it. The salad was about as basic as the ones you buy from the store that are premade. I added chicken fajita to the salad, but I probably would've done better just eating it plain. The chicken literally tasted like the frozen kind that you thaw, microwave, and add to your dog's bowl for them to eat. The chicken was rubbery and not good at all. I felt so bad because my friend who had invited me to meet her here was so excited to have me try it and I was not so excited once they brought the food out. I don't think I'll be returning to this place unless they decide to change their entire menu and serve authentic Mexican food. read more
