Clockwise: mixed grill, chicken shawarma fries, chicken platter, chicken quesadilla

Chef on the Run Halal is a middle eastern style food truck located near NRG in the Hotel Ylem Parking lot. Owner, Muhammad, hails from Egypt where he told me if worked for decades in various restaurants. Moving to US 5 year ago, he decided to take his experience and passion for good food and open a food truck to bring Houstonians halal friendly delicious meals! My husband and I went there on a Friday night. We did not order ahead so we had to wait about 15-20 minutes for our food. All the food they cook is made to order so you may end up waiting but your meat will be fresh and juicy. Trust me, its worth the wait. But if you're in a rush, I recommend calling ahead of time and placing your order. We ordered the fresh lemonade with mint which was honestly one of the most amazing lemonades that I have ever had. Much more like a slushy, it was blended with ice and there was a LOT of mint. It was super refreshing for the Texas heat. We ordered Chicken Shwarma Fries. These fries are loaded with chicken, cheese, garlic and hot sauces. They are listed as an appetizer but one serving is more than enough of a meal for 2 people. Its HUGE. My only complaint was that the cheese was a bit overcooked (not burnt) on the loaded fries and became hard. But lets be real, cheese is always delicious. We had the chicken quesadilla which was served with a side of pickled vegetables. Be sure to ask for more garlic and hot sauce on the side. The chicken platter which came with 2 giant grilled chicken breasts served over rice with garlic sauce and pickled vegetables which was perfectly grilled and moist. And finally, the highlight of our meal was the mixed grill platter which came with rice, pickled veggies, chicken and lamb. Hands down, the lamb at Chef on the Run Halal is worth every minute of the drive to this food truck!

What can I say? It's freaking delicious. I got the beef shawarma and that's what I recommend. I got the plate which came with some veggies and rice and a delicious garlic sauce. I also tried the hubby's chicken shawarma, which was also delish! The hummus was good too, but they didn't provide any bread or naan to go with....boo! And this was weird, they served eggrolls. They were good too, ha! But definitely a very weird option to have on the menu. Anyway, the food is amazing and well priced! Talk about eating a very tasty meal for under $10! Chicken over rice with red sauce

Well y'all, I stopped by this food truck late tonight. I was eager to try some Mediterranean food from here. I've been searching for months, to find Mediterranean that's actually seasoned well. Well, tonight I finally found a place! The man who helped me was very nice. I decided on chicken over rice and substituted the white garlic sauce for the red. WOW, that red sauce was great! It was creamy, had a little kick and was just AMAZING! Anyways, I waited maybe 10-15 minutes for my food, which is not a problem at all. My food came out HOT and fresh. The chicken was cooked well, it was seasoned well, the rice was nice and wasn't overly seasoned or salty. The quality of food was great for less than $10 and the portion was HUGE. I will definitely have about 2-3 meals from this one plate. I will come back and let others know about this hidden gem.

Great food and great service from the owners!

When we entered the vibe was relatable to the name of the restaurant but after a few minutes we heard Bollywood songs and I love Bollywood songs but I feel like the vibe of the restaurant should relate to the cuisine and ambiance. It automatically gives an impression that the restaurant isn't Greek or Lebanese for example. Anyway, we had ordered kibeh and lentil soup for appetizers. The lentil soup was the worst lentil soup I've ever had it was frozen we asked them to heat it but it still tasted disgusting. I couldn't eat it. The kibeh was alright the dip with the kibeh was good. For entrees, we ordered the chicken shawarma plate and combo kebabs. The plates came with a salad the dressing was interesting but I'm not a fan of feta cheese so I didn't have the salad. The shrimps and chicken kebab of the combo kebabs were not bad I really liked the shrimps. The hummus was okay and the rice was very bland. The service was quick I believe because everything felt like it was pre-cooked except for the kebabs but the beef kebab wasn't cooked entirely one of the pieces it was raw. The shawarma was not good at all! Very disappointing Our bill was $60 and we were charged a 2.5% fees for credit card!

When we arrived on a Tuesday evening, it was empty other than maybe one other family. When we entered we were told to pick a seat and then given the menus. The second I saw the menu it seemed a bit expensive- I was looking at the vegetarian plate where you can pick 5 which was for $25 I think- I got falafels, tazeki, hummus, another spread, pickled turnips. They didn't have many other options that were appetizing- I'm not into the eggplant or okra. While waiting for the food the waitresses were sitting on their phones chatting laughing, I thought it was unprofessional, that's not what you want to see when you go to a nice place. We were given salad- the salad already had dressing on it which was spicy! Me and my friend could not figure out what it is - it was tangy spicy I think from garlic more chemically tasting rather than Cheyenne spicy. A bit too spicy for both of us. I would have wished they put the dressing on the side so we can add on our own. The food arrived and was given pita bread as well which was nice. The food was not flavorful, the hummus tasted Bland, falafels were actually pretty good but only were given . The pita bread I was hoping was gonna be fluffy but this was so thin and chewy didnt like it. Everything wasn't to my liking or lacking something except the falafels which I only had two of. I think the falafel wrap might have been a better option but due to the price I won't be back.

Had to call over the server to order after chatting for a bit, so I appreciated that it wasn't pushy in terms of needing to get the patrons to order food quickly. The waiters were all very attentive and friendly. We ordered an appetizer that came with kibbeh, fried cheese wrapped in an eggroll wrapper, and falafel. I'm not usually a falafel person, but this one changed me. The kibbeh and the fried cheese was incredible as well!! As for the main dish, I got the shish kabob combo and was served a hefty portion - honestly enough for 2 people. The rice was so fluffy and the shish was moist and cooked wonderfully! Total was around $28 with taxes excluding tip - so quite hefty of a price tag but really delicious food worth coming back for.

Officially the authentic Greek restaurant without going overboard. Wait- the homemade 3 layer chocolate cake and the lemon cake! Actually bought a whole one for a large birthday party and everyone wanted to know the bakery name- just Athena's homemade cake! Remember, Greek food is fresh with best ingredients. ORDERED VEGAN GYRITO AND GOT LAMB!!! #DISGUSTED…read more I ordered on DoorDash so I can't speak on the ambiance. However, I got y'all on the food and service. I got to be real with y'all if they hadn't messed up my order I would've given them a 4 star rating. Shall we???... I ordered a Gyrito (Burrito) with [Half Turmeric Rice and Half Spicy Rice, Avocado Hummus $2+, Falafel, Tzatziki, Red Hot Sauce, Garlic Alioli, Pickled Onion, Jalapeños, Chickpeas, Black Olives, Lettuce, Onion, Cucumber and Bell Peppers] from Gyro Republic in Sugarland @9:17pm for a total of $20.50 including service fee and tax. I received my meal at 10:03pm because the DoorDash driver picked up another order on the way to me (ANNOYING BTW) but not the worse part. I had my girlfriend go meet the driver and tip him in cash, although he didn't follow my instructions; to contact me upon arrival to meet in lobby. When she got down there he was trying to take a picture to leave the food at the front desk. Anyways, she comes upstairs with a bag that looked different than the bag that was taken upon pickup. Brushed it off, checked out the bag and food, everything seemed fine. Off initial looks the gyrito was HUUUGGGEEEE! I was so excited to dig in. I love Mediterranean food I've been hooked since moving to CA years back. I love to feed my girlfriend so I gave her the first bite, she's chewing it.. then, I go ahead and take my bite. BOOOM, it's really saucy (*IM A SAUCE GIRL *), the flavors are flavoring, like they should....then, I taste something that immediately had my radar go off and I spit everything out. ITS LAMB!!! I'm like this is meat. I go to check the rest of the gyrito; there's indeed meat throughout the entire burrito. I call the restaurant told them the issue and y'all....they had the nerve to tell me they ran out of falafel for the night and that's why LAMB was put into it. WTFFFFF???!!! Why not just add more chickpeas since that's what falafel is made of???? Make it make sense. The problem is my girlfriend and I started to feel queasy because we've been doing a fast and parasite cleanse so our intake of meat has been extremely LOW for the last month. So I was HOT! Overall, I'm disappointed in the carelessness!!!
