Went around lunch time today , sat on the empty patio. Took 15 mins to get drink order taken and the lady couldn't do our food. Drinks were wrong when they came and we were halfway thru our drinks before we could order. Food was disgusting. I ordered chicken tacos and it looked like boiled chicken thrown in the tortillas and soooo very bland. My husbands ground beef tacos also lacked seasoning. This is my second time coming to vaqueros and it will hopefully will not be my last! After getting in late from Dallas my friend and I decided to order take out instead of sitting in. We checked out their extensive menu online, which was full of various tacos, burritos, fajitas, quesadillas, appetizers, and more. I was torn between their chicken el carbon tacos and nachos. The taco platter came with three tacos and rice and beans. The nachos came with grilled chicken, onions, beans, guacamole, lettuce, tomatoes, and cheese. They had a half and full order, so after a lot of thought I decided to order the nachos. I called the order in and the total for my nachos and my friends order of a half appetizer was just $19.99! When we arrived our order was already waiting for us! I decided to order one of their famous margaritas while the game was still on. It surprised me how light in color the margarita was, but was super strong in flavor! The alcohol did not hit me until a few minutes later, so I am so glad I was not driving. A couple of those and you are good!! When we arrived home unfortuantely my food was a little cold, but it was still delicious! Sadly I have to make this review but one of my favorite go to's is a never go again. The food was nicer the highlight of the place but the service atmosphere and the margaritas made up for it. However my last two visits have sealed the deal for me and after reading other reviews I see this is the case with other regulars. We always order the margarita especial(special) which is the house margarita with a shot of grand marnier. However they don't use grand marnier but a cheaper brand called grand gala. At first this wasn't so bad but over time it tasted more like medicine or cough syrup. No problem. I would special request the actual grand marnier. No problem much better. On this last visit, same story but when they brought out the version with the grand marnier it tasted the same as the previous grand gala drink. The waiter insisted it was grand marnier and I explained I'm pretty sure it wasn't since I tend to enjoy it quite often as a compliment or just straight. I asked that he remove the drink from my bill as I wasn't going to drink it and he said he would send over a manager who never came and the waiter explained he's not coming and there's nothing he could do. I couldn't believe the disrespect and dismissal after the countless visits and as many groups as I've brought in before. I've always tipped generously and never had any major issues that weren't corrected without incident but these last two visits were very similar in lack quality and service. Unfortunately, I don't see myself returning with so many more new options. It won't be hard for me to pass this place by. This was my very first Southern Mexican food experience. I have heard plenty about chile con queso when I was in Los Angeles, and interestingly, no one can describe exactly what it is. I was intrigued. Last night, my curiosity was fulfilled. Casa Vaqueros is a nice little establishment in the suburb near Sugar Land. The parking lot was packed even on a Tuesday evening. The interior is nice, clean, warm and welcome. We were greeted right away, and seated quickly. Food came out in timely manner, simple and fresh. My queso is yum, it is a great cheesy twist on tortilla chip. I enjoyed it more than I anticipated. The beef taco is very different from what I was accustomed to, it was not heavily seasoned. It is shredded, light, and fluffy, topped with pico de gallo and fresh salsa, ummm, hmmm good. I would say I have enjoyed the dessert more than I should, the light taste of Baileys Irish cream, the layer of cream cheese lightly sweetened, and a hint of chocolate syrup with whipped cream, I would be in heaven if I could also have a cup of hot black coffee to go with it. After driving past El Vaquero on his way to work everyday and seeing the parking lot full 24/7, my father finally decided to get the family together and try a new restaurant a.k.a "be adventurous". El Vaquero is very much a cafe style restaurant; not much in the way of decoration, and the service leaves a not so great impression. But the food? Pretty darn good. Like every Tex-Mex restaurant, they provide unlimited chips and salsa. Their salsa is, in my opinion, especially good. It's a little more zesty than other places tend to be, which is right up my alley. For 4 people, we ordered the regular beef fajitas for two and the Poblano Fajitas for two. Honestly, an order of fajitas for 2 can stuff the bellies of 4 people just fine because the portions here are HUGE. I have never seen a restaurant put so much meat on one platter before. And they provide each person with an individual plate of rice, beans, guacamole, and pico. And the portions aren't just huge, they're also really delicious. The meat is grilled really well, so that it's still juicy and spiced well. Overall, great place, reasonably priced, and give enough food to feed an elephant. read more

Ahhh...non-Tex Mex Mexican food! My happy place! This is a no frills, but very popular, local place. Not much to look at, but reminds me of the Mexican places I loved in California. And if I'm honest, there is Tex Mex on the menu if you do need that. The food was fresh and tasty-I had a taco salad with chicken and Hubby had fajitas. The salsa has a kick, as did the margaritas. I think most people come here to drink, which is fine. The parking lot is always packed. It's storming outside and there was easily 15 people waiting to be seated as we were leaving. They have added or updated their patio. I don't drink, not anymore anyway lol. So this review is on the food which I'll describe as borderline cafeteria level flavor wise and the service. Now that I think of it the food tasted about the same as Lubys. Service is horrible. Waitstaff looks at you like they wish you weren't there. Or that you are not their table, then it always turns out you are. The lady serving water and chips was very nice. The manager eventually came to take our order. I rarely come here. I love how the waiters are really nice, the hostess is not much on the friendly side but ehh. Anyway, I have been here several times. The first times I didn't really like the food I had ordered the chicken with mushrooms on top, it was a bit too thick and seemed undercooked but I just don't like thick chicken breast, the second time I got the carne asada, it was way too spicy for me and I don't remember what I ordered the other time but I don't think I liked it either and by the way I never liked their rice, it had cumin and personally I don't like it that way. So, I stopped going for like a year after trying it a few times, just recently I went again and I ordered the fajitas and they were very tasty and tender, I think they changed the rice recipe because it was better this time and I went again today to try their baby back ribs which were AWESOME! My father-in-law introduced us to Casa Vaqueros recently as one of his favorite go-to Tex Mex restaurants. The food was good, if a little expensive for Tex Mex. The restaurant is free standing with its own parking extending to three sides of the building, but, due to its popularity with the neighborhood diners, you can expect some serious parking shortages. Spaces were tight and even with his smaller sedan we had to get out of the car before we parked to avoid hitting the cars next to us with our doors. That's said, it's still worth the trouble so don't give up. The parking lot jam make leave you feeling that the wait will be long but there is more room inside than you realize. We only had to wait 10 minutes for a table for a party of five. Because my father in law was treating, I didn't want to pick anything too pricey. Since the prices were a bit high I limited myself to the beef tacos and a Margarita. Chips and salsa came to the table and were refilled without asking. Hooray for that! The beef tacos included two tacos with ground beef. They were a little watery so the second shell started to fall apart before I could finish the first. Hello knife and fork. The rice was good. Place is cleaner than your typical hole in the wall Chinese restaurant bathroom and they take credit card. The green salsa so good, but you have to ask for it! Chips and salsa are free! Was having the best time at this restaurant today. Food was great. Margaritas were great. We were on the porch. The few people that were out there were enjoying the music we had on my friend's cell phone. After TWO hours, AFTER we paid and tipped $50 on the bill the MANAGER ERICKA, who we hadn't seen the entire time we were there, asked us to turn our music off. We put the speaker up and it was lightly playing on our phone. She stalked us and demanded we turn our cell phone off. We asked if anyone complained and she said know but she was rude, argued with us, told us we were wrong and breaking some invisible rule about playing music on the patio. Meanwhile, CNN is forced upon the patrons inside, but we had our cell phone on medium, enjoying our day. The people on the porch were just as shocked as how rude Ericka was. It wasn't even my phone but she snapped at me personally, both times. Like I was the leader. I told her it wasn't even my phone and we weren't doing anything wrong. They don't even have music on the patio. If you DON'T want to have fun, go there. Ericka has a huge power trip. When we asked for the manager. She came out. We asked for her bosses name and she said, "I don't have to tell you". Life is too short honey. Never again. I've been eating there 20 years and couldn't believe the level of rudeness out of this lady. I now see, that Ericka is rude to several people. The owner should rethink who is overseeing his restaurant. I guess since they serve the strongest margaritas in town, you just get everyone wasted, so they don't notice how rude your manager is. We went to Vaquero's on a Saturday night at about 6:30. The parking lot looked full when we arrived, but there is plenty of parking around the back of the building. We were seated almost immediately and our waiter came to our table within a few minutes. We ordered beef enchiladas and chicken flautas. Both dishes were delicious. However I just witness a man walk up to 1 table in particular, and tell them to tone it down. When noise is coming from a totally different table. Then the a hole customer gets a manager or hostess involved. There's multiple table causing noise pollution. So why target one table??? I'm sure this restaurant has lost the table that was around a party of 8 but, they have lost my business as well. I will spread the word of how poorly management handles the situation tonight. Went there for lunch for the first time today. There as a large group of us, about 17 people. The wait staff was on the ball. They did a fantastic job. The food was some of the best I've ever had. This is a hard post to write but it was made easier by my experience on Wednesday evening. I have been coming here for years on years on years. Ilove the margaritas and the food. However, over the last couple years I've noticed that the servers seem to have a preference as to the customers they want to serve. On Wednesday we sat on the patio and no one even acknowledged us. The waiter came to check on another table but evidently didn't see us sitting by the door. I had to go in and ask one of the ladies at the register for service. after that the server showed up. Even as we ate we watched the server walk by us with his head turned in the opposite to avoid looking at us. We actually watched him do this twice. Were we being unruly? no. Were we being demanding? no. We were simply eating dinner and talking to each other. Why am I writing this? Because like I said earlier, I've been a regular patron and have introduced friends to this establishment and spent a lot of money. I've always been a good tipper, even when people I was dining with weren't, I always have been. But because of the service I've been receiving, I've started tipping in accordance with that, a direct cause and effect relationship. I think I understand why, but what's done is done. I know if several people who have stopped going there for the same reasons and experiences. I don't feel appreciated or valued here. With that being said, I won't be returning and I will also not recommend them. Please be aware that this was not my first experience like this, just my last. The reason for the 2 stars? My daughter and I ate here for the first time. Everyone has their own tastes for certain Mexican food and I'm about the pickiest person when it comes to TexMex. We like cheese enchiladas with the chili gravy and not the red sauce. Fortunately, this place serves their enchiladas with the chili gravy. We were served hot chips and a somewhat watery salsa. Not bad, but we've had better. I ordered the Cancun dinner. The plate came out steaming hot. I know, most Mexican food restaurants serve their food on oven hot plates, but my plate of food had steam coming off of it. The rice had a nice blend of cumin and other spices. The refried beans were good, but needed a little more flavor. The enchiladas had a good mixture of cheese and chili gravy. The beef taco was good as well. My daughter had the enchiladas and she too liked her food. The only complaint I have is what appeared to be the owner/manager. We were seated in a section with no one around. All of a sudden this guy comes into our section talking very loud on his cell phone. He did this throughout most of our lunch. He sat in a chair about 15 feet from us. News flash! Some white people know how to speak Spanish and we don't need to hear every word you have to say on a cell phone. Even if I couldn't understand Spanish, the guy was talking so loud it was very distracting. Even though the manager seems to be clueless about restaurant etiquette, we plan on returning to try their fajitas. That's the do or die as far as I'm concern. If you can't cook beef fajitas, then that's an X on you. Overall, El Vaquero has some good TexMex and we will return. read more

This place has made its way back to our top neighborhood pick for fajitas. They don't mess around with the Fajitas Mexicanas. The menu does describe them as spicy and they deliver - your eyes will start to water from the smoke coming from the platter as it is placed on the table. If you can handle the heat, add some of the chiles on the platter as you wrap them in fresh flour tortillas, but even if you avoid the chiles, you will taste them in every bite. [and if you don't do heat, don't say I didn't warn you... go for the regular fajitas instead.] Service can be spotty, but usually prompt. Margaritas are strong. I consider my self and my family regulars here at this location. Couldn't think of a better place to spend time with family or friends and enjoys great food amongst a very friendly and comforting environment. We have gone to this to this location forever and the owners even gave my dad a Christmas gift to show thanks for our loyalty and that showed they truly do care about their costumer service. From the mangers down to the host everyone has treated us with plenty of respect and hospitality. My and my family have been going every Thursday night for as long as I remember. This is by far my favorite place to eat, not only Tex-mex but just in general. I have been coming to Casa Vaquero well before they changed the named from El Vaquero and this place has been very important and special place for me and my family. I have celebrated many family and friends events and every time there has been no complaints. I'll start off by saying there is no place that gives you better offer of food at very reasonable price. If your of age me and my family claim they have the best frozen margaritas around and are a table at their restaurant. With that being said this is great place to bring the family as through my experience it is very welcoming and not too noisy and you can easily enjoy your time with your friends or family peacefully. The service definitely could speed up but I rather the food be hot rather than it being rushed. As mentioned I have had many of the servers their wait on me and the food is always done right and we are taken care of throughly through out the tile we are there. Not only is my family fond of this place but this is most certainly the most talked about restaurant's between my circle of friends. It was a tradition for me and my bare all team to eat there before baseball games in high school and casa vaqueros has always left me satisfied with my experience. Came here one night with my family. We all loved it! The beans and rice were great, seasoned well and nice and hot. I had the jalapeno shrimp bacon thing. Good, spicy, even though the shrimp was a little overdone. My husband had the cheese enchiladas and they were the perfect Tex-Mex cheese enchilada - mild red sauce, red tortillas, and yellow cheese. My daughter had a kids cheese quesadilla and the flour tortillas was freshly made and the cheese was stringy and white. My son had the beef taco and the meat was perfectly seasoned and not at all greasy nor dry. The service was fantastic; even our busperson was very attentive to our needs. I've only been for lunch and they get packed but have only like 2 servers (one of those servers is also the bartender). But the food... it doesn't taste like tex mex! Both the corn and flour tortillas were rubbery and tasteless. My wife had to dip her beef into the Charro beans to give it flavor.
