Awesome experience today stopping by this landmark Bar-B-Que location. The restaurant is very clean and collectibles line the walls and benches. It's neat to look at memories from the past. The service is outstanding. They are very attentive to your needs. They always greet you with a smile and are very friendly while serving you and the food is amazing. The barbecue is some of the best the fries which are homemade or top notch and the salad was very impressive. I was very disappointed with my experience. I ordered the brisket sandwich, and it was disgusting. The taste and quality were so bad that I ended up getting sick and threw up after eating it. The restaurant really needs to pay closer attention to food quality, freshness, and preparation. Brisket should be tender, flavorful, and served at the proper temperature. I also recommend better quality control before food leaves the kitchen to make sure customers are receiving meals that are safe and enjoyable. We are new to the area and have been wanting to try this place for a while after one of our friends at church have been recommending it! We finally made it in this evening. The atmosphere is incredible! It's like an old country store with some good old-fashioned barbecue! Reminds me of a fun family reunion. The server was awesome, she was very kind, a young girl, maybe college age. I like to see all of the young employees working there serving tables! On our way to the restroom we met who I believe to be the owner. He was a very kind older gentleman and was a pleasure to speak with. Our food was quite delicious, no complaints. One of the best BBQ spots I've had. Their hot sauce is very good and very spicy. It's on the table so you don't have to ask for it. The chili cheese burger is very good the fries are always a bit soggy but always enjoyable with some ranch dressing. The service is very nice and fast. You get to seat yourself and a waitress/waiter will be right with you. I like the decorations like the coke signs license plates and antique car parts and more. read more

Black Friday visit, about 4pm, three tables filled in the wholl restaurant. Waitress took the order of four of our five and walked away. We reminded her that she forgot to take the last order and she said, "he'll eat what I bring him". The manager approached and apologized for the teenage waitress, offered a free meal, but we turned it down. You can't speak to consumers any way you want for the price of a cold pork player of food. Manager was nice enough, but he seemed to think his waitress and her attitude was ok by him. Hard pass! read more

It's very sad I am forced to leave this negative review. By the way lots and lots of negative reviews from other dissatisfied customers here and on Google. I called ahead on July 3rd to get out annual July 4th barbecue and placed an order for a family pack. The online menu lists the price at $35.00. When I arrived to pick it up I was told it was $41.00 instead. I showed the counter staff the online Google listing with their menu and pricing. She went and got the owner. He came out and stated he does not honor the pricing listed online on his Google listing. Now he didn't say I an sorry or apologize just stated matter factly he would not honor the quoted price. I tried to reason with him that the customer should always be right and he said no and a older lady staff member behind him scoffed "right" and laughed at me for what I said. With the businesses I own I have always treated the customers as always being right. Not this owner nor his staff. So sadly a long time customer will never return. My grandparents and father brought me here as a young teen and my family has patronized thus restaurant for over 50 years. My family helped build Powder Springs into the community it was in the 80's and 90's and since. I brought my 7 children here many times and this was the go to for bbq for New Years, 4th July, family celebrations, even my father's and grandparents funeral celebrations of life. Food is horrible. Fried pickles are cooked in a bed of soggy heavy breading which is more like funnel cake batter and not in a good way. Pull chicken has zero flavor. Burger might as well be a bubba burger. Chicken fingers are frozen. How hard is it to bread your own chicken fingers...guess I should have know by the pickles. Coleslaw came from a can. Tried this place on a Saturday night, we ordered hickory potato sweet potato fries and a rib plate. Every piece of food is cooked earlier in the day and reheated so my roast in my potato was extremely dry. I asked if I could send it back and was told no take home for later. I was trying to be nice, because not only was the meat overcooked and warmed up, but there were no seasonings involved in the cooking process at all. The place was very dirty very greasy floors. I see why this place tries to sell so much stuff. I can't imagine people come for the food. The management is super rude, and could care less if you come back they don't care if the food doesn't taste good they'll still make you pay even if you haven't eaten it!!! read more

I am not sure where else you will fine a slab of ribs for $13.99. Similar to a Sonny's BBQ if your local. If your looking for that low key spot with quality smoked meats and amazing bbq this place is not for you. The good news: affordable prices, friendly waitresses, and quite a few options. Bonus: you can also pickup a pair of cowboy boots, knives, overalls and bird seed during your visit. Bad news: low quality meats that are a bit on the dry side and covered with sauce. No brisket, and not many vegetable options. Overall I would recommend Jim and Nicks, never thought those words would leave my mouth but I am a quality over quantity kind of guy. After reading a outstanding review we gave this place a try. We invited guest to join us and I was so embarrassed. I have only two thing good to say about our experience. 1. The gentleman working the floor was so nice and outgoing. 2. The waitress was so efficient and sweet personality. The food was the most disappointing warmed up left overs we have ever had to pay for. Also the cleanliness of this restaurant would be enough to not go back. If you do choose to go to this establishment be very careful of the tile floor it is so greasy someone is bound to fall. Barbecue was more vinegary than sweet, but good. Just the right amount to go with my baked sweet potato. Had to take off a star because waitress went to her next task and forgot to get me a fresh ice tea to go. When I got up to the register to ask for her, she came to apologize and got me the tea. I used to eat at Johnny's a lot. We tried it again recently with friends. While some elements were still good (hamd cut fries, homemade dressing, hamburger steak) the bbq sandwich was not that good. It was clear the bun and meat were microwaved. Meat was dry and had no sauce at all. I'd try it again because of their strong history but I hope the owners see this and take it as feedback to not "phone it in" on the que. read more

The country folks here are sweet as pie. The decor is awesome and there's even a train going around the whole top border of the restaurant. The food is good too! I give their sweet tea a 7/10 Bc it could've been stronger and sweeter it was a tad watery for my taste. The prices are also very reasonable. We will be back weekly I'm sure! read more

Food was just okay, not much really to say, positive or negative. Tonight was my first time trying Johnny's and I was skeptical as the recent reviews have been mostly negative, but I didn't have an outstandingly bad experience. I ordered the chicken tenders with fries and coleslaw. Everything was relatively tasteless. While I enjoyed the texture and softness of the fries, they were a little too greasy and had next to no salt or seasoning whatsoever on them. The same seasoning issue is present with the chicken. Speaking of the chicken, the breading wasn't really crispy at all, it just seemed mundane in comparison to other chicken tenders I've had (although this is a barbeque joint, not a chicken joint, so I'll give them a slight pass on that). The coleslaw was, again, lacking in any depth and was just okay. My whole meal can be summed up with "okay". I got honey mustard with my order and ended up using quite a bit of it to add flavor to the fries and tenders, but I'm a firm believer you should be able to eat a meal with or without dips/condiments and it should still have some degree of flavor. This meal didn't. I can't really comment on the service or ambiance of the location itself as my meal was delivered to me, but from what I've heard it's a homey place, and I was a little disappointed that my meal didn't really stand out like I thought it would. Maybe next time I'll order barbeque, but as for this meal it's a solid 3/5. read more

This place reminded me of the BBQ places back home in Texas. I had the ribs and chopped beef sandwich. The ribs were really good. Did not need no bbq sauce!! Awesome ribs!! But, the chopped beef sandwich had a strong vinegar taste. I am not a big fan of vinegar bbq. Next time I go there, I will get TWO racks of ribs! The reason I gave it a 4 instead of the 3 was due to the awesome ribs, and due to I did not sample there sausage, and I do not think it would be fair to really penalize them on the vinegar based bbq due to that is an individual taste preference on style of bbq. read more

I found this place online, and it was really close. I recently had ribs and a baked potato and it was amazing (not from this restaurant) so I wanted it again. The ribs were actually smoked which I thought was a good sign but they were missing lots of flavor, and to make matters a little worse they were cold. :( The sauce in the plate had potential but it was very watery. Johnny's Barbecue in Powder Springs has been around a good number of years, though it's changed hands several times during that time. The atmosphere is typical "Old West Cobb". Very rustic and basic inside, with a wait staff that is a cross between the crusty, and girls who Hooters would not hire for whatever reason. Patrons can vary from "city folk" who have moved further into the burbs to avoid the city issues, to entire families dressed in hunting camouflage, fresh back from killing things dead (yeehaw). Sometimes it's fun to put up with the food just to people watch. The food is typical BBQ fare - grilled chicken, BBQ sandwiches, beef, etc. While the meats are ok, the fries may times come out dripping with grease - enough to cause any cardiologist to have a panic attack. I mean.. GREASE. Several people I know locally joke that when they're having problems um, "being regular", they just go to Johnny's and eat the fries and poof - problem solved! I choose not to. Service from the hooters... er.. waitresses, is ok. When it gets busy they get kind of scatterbrained. I've seen worse. When eating in, it's considered by some to be one of those, "well, there's nothing else close by", types of places. The biggest problem is ordering takeout from this place. Of the last several times we've ordered things to-go, there have been mistakes on every single order. Sometimes it may be something as minor as asking for extra sour cream and they actually put less than normal in the bag. Sometimes you order a baked potato (which they seem to run out of regularly) and you get fries instead. A few times you get an item that is entirely different than what you ordered. They also put takeout potatoes (again, when they have them) in your box still wrapped in aluminum foil, and then cut them open from the top - these leaves small aluminum shavings inside the potato... YUM! Just what your digestive track ordered... metal in your intestines! Um... no. Ok, so, the place is cheap, the food won't KILL you (other than metal in your takeout potatoes, that is), and it's not the worst stuff in the world. I just can't rate them any better than this. There are far too many issues with takeout and grease in some of the items to give them more. I give it a "eat at your own risk and I told you so" kind of place. read more
