This place is tucked in a corner near the very busy intersection of Hwy 92 and Hwy 278 and can somewhat blend into the background. It is a hidden gem though! Homemade BBQ sauces on the table like a NC Vinegar sauce, smoky sauce and the amazing mustard based South Carolina sauce. I got the half chicken, Brunswick stew, fried corn and garlic bread. The Brunswick stew was rich and meaty and was the absolute star of the plate. I would be happy to curl up with a bowl of that stew and a grilled cheese sandwich on a cold day! The fried corn came with a little drawn butter and was really good. The half chicken was nicely smoked and delicious. Perhaps best of all was the service there. If the girls in the dining room can't make you a happy customer then nobody can. I came in on a cool Friday evening and the restaurant had a steady stream of customers but it was relatively quiet and was a pleasant dining atmosphere. We went in with zero expectations since it was Easter Sunday. They were slightly busy yet all the staff were extremely helpful and courteous. It was typical BBQ set up inside with plenty of walking space between tables. The interior was well lit and super clean. We got the Angus Beef plate with fried okra and potato salad, as well as the pulled pork plate with stew and baked beans. Everything was delicious with good portions for the price. We had to sample their yellow jacket hotdogs that did t disappoint The Angus Beef was chopped and moist. Their sweet bbq sauce was perfect. We did get to also have their peach cobbler and banana pudding. They were both good. The only problem we experienced was my biscuit was still slightly raw. The two young ladies at the front counter were quick to greet us with a smile and an offer to help carry our order out to the car. The food was perfect! Angus beef has been elevated. BBQ sauce too. The local spot is overworked and understaffed. That said they are still delivering delicious food. If you dine in, your food is made first. It's an order at the counter, then sit place. That means if you forget to order something, you go back in line to add it on. Angus beef was phenomenal. Order. It. You will be happy you did. Chicken was juicy and fall of the bone. They have many other options for meat, will have to try them all. Sides. Get the beans. Coleslaw was large cut now. It's ok. Do not order the cream corn. The baked beans, Mac and cheese and sweet potato fries are all great sides! For bread options I have had the cheese biscuit and garlic bread. Personally, I like the garlic bread better. All are really flavorful and good. I am just a sweet bbq sauce girl. You order your food at the counter when you walk in and they come to your table to grab your cups for drinks and then bring your food out when it is ready. I've picked up food to-go from here a few times now. The first time we got a whole smoked chicken. It was delicious and I'd get it again. The second time we decided to try some other items. He got a beef plate with a cheese muffin and some type of fried corn casserole. He thought it was all pretty good but eyed my plate hard. I got a pulled pork plate with garlic bread slices, mac and cheese, and fried corn on the cob. It was delicious, all of it. I had plenty of food for lunch the following day. We have visited Happy Hawg BBQ twice in the last two weeks. First time we had two great sandwiches pulled pork on toasted sour dough the meal came with a side choice of steak fries and we enjoyed them. Server was was so efficient and she had a great personality!!! The second time we got a salad with pulled pork to go and it was delicious. However, they charged for a second dressing and we did not receive it. The only complaint we have was the hostess/order taker/cashier was not welcoming to the restaurant. This person took the order with absolutely no personality or suggestions (might be nice since it was our first time). Same person happened to be that person on both visits. We could have easily given 5 stars but the first person you see and last person is the same person which left us thinking..:do the owner a favor and move on. I really enjoyed their barbecue! It was very fresh, and tender. They also give you a variety of sauce to choose from at your table. I enjoyed the service (even though almost everyone is a teenager) they were very nice and professional. I ordered bbq beans, loaded potatoes , fried tomatoes, fried okra , potato salad , sausage and bbq shredded chicken. It came with cornbread. Honestly, the meal was generous in portion. I was however disappointed about the bbq shredded chicken. It was awful. It was dry, overcooked and tasteless. Think of a bunch of strings , stiff - then cover it with some bbq sauce. I couldn't bring it back to life, I had to toss it. I haven't tried the loaded baked potatoes as of this review, but I pray they are good. I truly enjoyed the Bbq beans, brought me back to my childhood. We have a handful of good bbq spots but after two trips to Happy Hawg, I am happy to say the better has arrived in style. Their new facility is in a much better location and the food is wonderful. The first time we got the Pig Out sandwich and the Hand Chopped sandwich with fries, coleslaw and bbq beans. This time out we got the Hand Chopped plate, 5 tenders in lemon pepper, cheese fries, Brunswick stew, mac-n-cheese, coleslaw, and fried green beans. The sandwiches were pulled high and the dies were plentiful, especially the fried green beans. We enjoyed everything with one exception. The Brunswick stew is puréed. The flavor was really good but it was a texture thing to me but the waitress swapped my stew out for bbq beans without question. Huge helpings at a very reasonable price. I was so excited to order from this place after such good reviews. But my Philly cheesesteak was missing the green peppers, onions and mushrooms as advertised. The cheese was also very light. This was the worst Philly cheesesteak I have ever had. The potato salad tasted stale. The grilled cheese sandwich is underwhelming. It was ok. It didn't knock my socks off like the last time I ate when I visited. This time around the fried okra was chewy, the fish over cooked, the potato salad had lots of oil in it- not sure why, the fries weren't crunchy, the potato said was a disaster. I've been here several times and never been disappointed. The pulled pork is excellent, even without the sauce. The wait staff are always polite and efficient, you definitely get good service. While I'm not a huge fan of the repaint and slight remodel, I'm sure it will grow on me, and the food is the true star. read more

First, the bad news. They do not require masks. The meat was dry. They do not offer curbside. The Brunswick Stew was inedible. The first bite had a large chunk of some kind of fat. It was the grossest thing I have ever eaten. They didn't give me my drink, in fairness I didn't ask for it. They didn't have any instructions on curbside so you are forced to make your way through a Trump ralley to get your mediocre (at best) bbq. The plus side- the sauces are pretty good. Everything that came out of the fryer was decent. The fries (my daughters, I fell for the stew trick) and the tender my daughter left on her plate were pretty good yet still a tad dry. The pork and beef could be good, my family didn't order it so I don't know. The place looks cool, if there's not a pandemic I would try them again as they are only a couple of miles from my house.
