Best when they are first brought out. Meatloaf is great. Salisbury steak is not good. Beef stew with gravy good. Best Ever Fried okra and fried green tomatoes. Collards great. Green beans taste canned. Potato salad and cucumber salad great. Good salad bar. Breads good but not hot. Soups okay. Haven't tried desserts as they never look appealing. The food is seasoned well and actually tastes pretty decent for a cheap buffet; however, there was a roach crawling on the booth seat next to us. It was a small German roach so I'm sure there are many more. We informed the waitress and she killed it. The place probably needs a really good deep cleaning as it doesn't look extremely dirty but definitely not the cleanest either. The waitress was extremely kind and attentive. Excellent service, lots of variety, food was hot. I came at about 1:30pm. Place was fairly busy and you can tell it's a local favorite. Nothing special about the decor or ambiance. Seemed like a mostly female staff and they were all friendly and welcoming. Highly recommend a try. read more

The beef stew is worth the entire experience. Lay it on some rice or mashed potatoes and you got a world class meal. Green beans, roll or cornbread with butter. You are correct to assume on sight that the orange Mac n cheese is not spectacular. Also good salad ingredients and the desserts look strong. Can't beat buffet with tea for $13! read more

Can we talk about their fried catfish? And their fried chicken? And their baked chicken? I am that person that you never want to take to a buffet because I never eat my money's worth but I definitely ate my money's worth here. Everything was so good. I know buffets can be iffy depending on the time you go but so far every time I've come everything has been ideal for me and I've always left happy and full. Went the other day for my yearly inoculation of black eye peas and collard greens. Both were just what I had hoped fo r, fresh and tasty. The fried chicken was eatable but desiccated and overly greasy. Everything else was good and while the strawberry cobbler lacked eye appeal and doughy it tasted wonderful with vanilla ice cream. This is my favorite buffet in Cobb and Paulding. Even at 3pm, the food is hot, fresh, and full to the brim--the kitchen guys are always changing them out regularly. The servers are the sweetest (especially Cindy) and never let your drink go empty. *by the way, the sweet tea is ALWAYS perfect* I'm not sure if the prices are the same on the weekends, but it's only $9 for a meal and a tea here. These have to be some of the most amazing people I have ever met. Everyone was so warm and loving, I couldn't handle it! They greeted me and treated me like family which shocked me. Any positive thoughts you get from thinking of Southern Country cooking are what they exuded. And the price for the buffet was awesome! I had so much food! Everything tastes great, but my favorites were the lima beans, deviled eggs, meatloaf, cheesecake, green beans, and ribs. We love exploring local places, M & J 's Country home cooking was recommended to me by my brother. It's a "regular" spot for his family for the past 7-10 years. My niece and nephews know the servers by name, they honestly have stories for days.. We initially wanted authentic Mexican tacos for dinner, but the traffic on Austell was a nightmare. Right as you walk in you're greeted, instructed to pick out any table.. Cindy was our server, she was sweet, prompt with the refills and clearing out plates. It's a southern style buffet with entrees, sides, soups, and desserts.. The big kicker your drink is included $9 total, tax included!!! We noticed on the way out that there was a piece of paper with the daily rotations of the buffet bar menu, which means it's never really the same "ol thang." I've been eating at M&J for about 3 years now and love it. We actually use it for special occasions (birthdays, etc...) because there is always something to satisfy everyone! The menu/buffet changes depending on the day of the week. I love to go on Mondays and get the country fried steak. Eat it over rice with gravy or slice a roll and eat as a sandwich. Delicious!!! They have it another day of the week, but can't remember which day. Also worth mentioning: the fried green tomatoes! The food is down-home cooking and the service is always great. When we first started going, it was always easy to get a table (we usually have a large group), but now the place is really full during peak times (which I love....means they'll probably be around a while). We've only had to wait more than 5 or 10 minutes once - but we had about 12 people...so had to wait for some tables to clear out so they could push a few together (and I don't knock the restaurant for that...they asked if we wanted to be split up at various tables, but we opted to wait). We knew getting there at 6:30 with a large group might cause a wait - so no big deal. Excellent food for the price!! read more

Without going to Mary Mac's Tea Room in Atlanta, this is as close as you can get without standing in the kitchen all day and cooking it yourself. Fried chicken is cut weird, but it's good. They also have either fried green tomatoes or fried eggplant. Had never had the eggplant, thought it was fried green tomatoes that went bad! Lol! Once I realized what it was, I loved it. Mac salad, deviled eggs, potato salad, cole slaw...all the typical southern veggies...a few desserts and you walk out of there only spending $7.50 including your tea. You really can't beat it if you're wanting typical southern food at a good price. I work just down the road, so I end up coming here about once a week or once every couple weeks. I'd probably go daily if I wasn't worried about my weight. They do have the occassional bbq or grilled chicken, but I can't keep my hands of the bad stuff, so I have to keep myself away! Its a nice sized buffett bar that sits on one side of the resturant. Lunch was packed and as a previous poster stated goldie oldie heaven, its full of canes and walkers. I went friday, which was fish day. Hush puppies, butter beans, mac n cheese, green beans, potatoes, cold salads, macaroni salad , deviled eggs, potatoe salad and a apple salad my grandma use to make before she passed. Its not hard to tell what is home made on the bar and what is from a box. The desserts are ok, taste like mainly frozen goods except for the peach cobbler. The chicken was overcooked and dry, the green tomatoes were flavorless, the fried okra was great, the rice was mush, the mac and cheese soaking wet with water in the pan yuck, the collards were cooked by someone who does not know how to cook them, the country fried steak was ok but only with the gravy, the desserts were mediocre at best strawberry cobbler was not great. So suffice it to say I was hoping for some good home cooking and I didn't find it here. The Waitresses were nice and efficient and the tea was really good. I had fried chicken (ok, but publix is better), fried catfish (very good), a yeast roll (very good), greens (not good), mashed potatoes (not remarkable), mixed veggies (ok), banana pudding (not good), melons (tasteless), and pecan pie (fantastic, probably prepackaged from Sysco). So you can see that it is a mixed lot, kind of hit or miss. For 8 bucks, the all-you-can eat aspect makes it a great value, especially bringing my teens here and they actually leave full. If the owners really want to see how this home cooking is done right, they should take a field trip to Arnold's in Nashville. It is phenomenal, and the line wrapped around the building attests to it. read more

I had gone here a few times, especially when they have fried catfish on Fridays. Even though this is a buffet restaurant, you can do to go plates based on weight. There is a minimum of 2 pieces of fish. Anything after 2 pieces, is charged per piece. I've noticed when I go in there, the owner is always watching while I fix my plate. Not sure why because she has to weigh it anyway. I never liked this as it feels like she thinks I'm "stealing" food. I packed my food as usual and went to the register. She asked me how many pieces of fish I had and I told her "2", as usual. She said "I thought you had more than 2 pieces" and proceeded to open my plate top. This pissed me off. Due to Vovid, I should've refused the plate and left it there. But I didn't. I paid, threw it away and will never go back. If you think people are stealing damn FISH, you shouldn't have a to go buffet bar!!! I haven't been back since then and I use to go every Friday for the fish! This is not country southern food y'all. The bread is hard as a rock. The cornbread is tasteless. Half of the items on the buffet were unidentifiable. The health grade here is 80%. It is not worth $10 a plate. The food was cooked without any seasoning whatsoever. no flavor. Green beans appear to be from a can. The collards were not cooked with any fat. The squash casserole and mac and cheese seemed to be cooked with a non cheese product. The squash casserole was watery and tasteless. I am giving 2 stars, because it would be a good place for someone that cannot have seasoning on their food. I know this is an issue for the elderly.
