Went to Johnny's on Saturday night, Super Bowl weekend. The wait around 9 pm was about 45 minutes, which wasn't bad. You could pay $40 to move ahead of the line, or wait and pay $10. Very reasonable. Parking was 10, because of the Super Bowl, again very reasonable. The place was packed, the staff professional, my girl and I had a wonderful time. This place is fucking trash. The cover is because you would not want to be here long enough to finish a drink. Give me 40 year and I may fit in with the 60+ crowd. Two negatives right off the bat. 1) The valet parking service hijacks the parking lot when all the other businesses close. Total money grab. It is in a low end strip mall with lines painted on a flat open parking lot. No need for Valet parking at all. Just be honest and say that you have a cover charge, instead of making me let some college kid nose around in my car and expect a tip for the privilege of doing so. 2) It smells like an ashtray. This is the 21st century. Do the owners really think that most people who want to go to a club also want or expect to have to suck in other peoples smoke and have to pay to have their clothes dry cleaned afterwards? This place is going down! If there were negative stars i would give it a -5. We went there last night and the waitress and security guy were as rude as F*&^!! We are paying customers and should be treated with some kind of respect. It was overly packed that moving was a problem. I think Johnny's is a lot of fun. I have been about 4 or 5 times now. Yes, it does have an older crowd, but Adam R. who commented before was ridiculous in his assessment of the men and women there. They are a fun crowd who don't mind dancing and having a good time. I have been asked to dance by older (sometimes much older) men, but they are polite and gentlemanly. This place is usually packed. If you want a table you had better get there early. By 10:00 it's usually standing room only. The music is played is all 60's, 70's, and 80's which I think is great. I haven't tried the food and the drinks are a little on the pricey side, but I have always had a good time here whether I went with a group of girlfriends or with my husband. read more

Surreal. A parallel universe. That's the only way to describe it. It's like walking onto the set of a John Waters movie. The chintz decor dates from the 1930s and most of the clientelle look like they're dressed for Halloween. My first and so far only trip to Johnny's, was as a relatively naive, callow 49 year old male, albeit with the physique of a 30-year old. Before I knew it, I was blushingly averting my eyes from young 30-something babes who were winking at me but almost immediately, I somehow ended up in the vice-like bear hug of a woman around my own age. Within what seemed like the blink of an eye, we were French-kissing on the dance floor. My wedding band appeared to arouse her, as best I can remember. I eventually staggered out of there around midnight (just as more people were starting to arrive), perspiring and covered in lipstick and in a general state of dishevelment. If you feel like getting totally messed up and aren't bothered by being groped by complete strangers, I highly recommend this place. read more

Security is not concerned about the drunk guys harassing women, and the bouncers are not enforcing rules at the line with people that come drunk from other bars, people skipping the lines, and people being taken advantage of by bouncers, etc... We've caught one of the bouncers accepting cash-in-hand from drunk patrons, and pocketing the extra cash, and sending patrons to pay $10.00 at the window (asked for his name on our way in, his name is Cameron). Next time, we're going to record the corrupt transaction on his part, and post it online. We've also asked Cameron for the name of the owner (Chris). Cameron is either related to Chris, or Chris (owner) needs to know about his conduct, so that he can look into his actions. read more

The new DJ here is an absolute JOKE. He plays mostly new music - aka crap and not what Johnny's is known for or about. He's probably catering to all the gen z frat f***s. This is just crap music that you can't even dance to or swing your hips to. Half the time people were leaving the dance floor (even the younger people y'all THINK you are catering to), because this clown sucked so bad. I nicely requested for him to play older music and he got butthurt and I got kicked out - insane. I've made requests to other DJs there and there's never been an issue - they've always been cool. Does he even have the authority to do something so petty? Is he bipolar? Obviously he was overly offended because he knows I'm right. ‍ I know I hit a sore spot. PLEASE hire a better DJ! I've been coming here for 10 years and have never ever received treatment this horrible, or heard a music lineup this bad. Absolutely disgraceful. It makes no sense. And he has TERRIBLE DJ skills. DO NOT GO HERE !!! Came here with my wife on our anniversary we were haveing a good time just ppl watching ,and dancing, we are not big drinkers I had 4 beers all nite and the last one was sitting full when this happened. my wife had 2 drinks and was drinking water most of the night. One of the bouncers came up to my wife and said something about what she was wearing . I thought this was ridiculous and told him that. (I later figured out the "B" bartender got mad we were sitting there ,not ordering from her but going to the other bar) we would not had done that had she waited on us. I told the bouncer I wanted to see a mgr . We argued a little , then it was over ,we agreed to disagree . But is was over he started to walk away . He got maybe 5ft when the other bouncer with the beard came over and started cussing me ,dropping the F word every other word. By now the original bouncer turned back around and came back. I listened to this young idiot long enough and told the 1st bouncer "now I do want to see the mgr" at that time the bearded bouncer grabbed me from behind with an arm bar and neck hold and told me I was out. I did not resist I just let him walk me out that way.he gave me to the police man outside and told him he wanted to file criminal trespass warren on me. FOR WHAT? Because I asked to see mgr? I am a fireman and showed the cop that so he refused to do it . It pissed the young bearded bouncer off. a little fact : Bouncers do not have the right to put there hands on you. They are no more than a cook or a bar back. Unless they are a cop then there is no way they would do that. They can ask you to leave the bar but they can't physically throw u out. I went here this pass Saturday with two friends. This was not my first time here and one of my friends loves oldies so I knew she would love this place. The night started out really well. Guys were stopping and buying us drinks constantly, we were dancing and having an overall good time. Out of no where I am approached by the bouncer who says we were "losing the bar money". I was shocked by this because from the moment we got to the bar there was a constant flow cocktails to the point where I didn't even have to tell the bartender what we wanted because he knew. Being a bartender myself I know the name of the game so I made sure he was getting his tips and we weren't just taking up space. And as I mentioned before guys were consistently buying us drinks so it really wasn't a hard task. I was utterly shocked and surprised by his statement. I explained to him that this could not be the case if anything we have made you money tonight. Then he said well you guys are making to much noise. I replied interesting cause the ladies next to us are doing the very same thing we are and yet you consider us the problem. I felt no matter what was said or done his intent was to come over and kick us out. I sat down and explained again that what he was saying did not make since and he had no cause for giving us a hard time. He proceeded to call the police! We were escorted out of this establishment. For what I think was complete discrimination! I will not ever give this place another dime of my money or business! I was not at any point loud or pointing my finger in his face or any other stereotypical things some ppl may think. Will never go here again. Security at the door checking ID's was overly rude (I am way over 21) and while we had a a table reserved he made us wait while he sat a group that had come in after us. Inside security guys are on some kind of power trip and just plain rude. Drinks were watered down (very obvious when ordering tequila shots) and smoking is allowed inside so be prepared to breath secondhand smoke and have your clothes reek of smoke when you leave. It's a dance dive for friendly and nice people who don't mind literally rubbing elbows with an eclectic & diverse bunch of other really friendly, over 40s, party people. That's it! You can go alone and find tons of people to dance with because everyone at Johnny's is partying together! When I say "everyone" I mean everyone, all inclusive and desegregated. Our group of 5 women, left our men at the table drinking, and merged with a group of transgenders on the dance floor, all dancing to "It's Raining Men" by The Weather Girls. So, it ain't over 'til it's over! If you had a blast partying in college or clubbing in your 20s, are now over 40, but still enjoy great music, dancing, drinking and a fun night on the town, you many have found your new home. Warning: the staff are accommodating and behave very professionally, like club staff used to in the 80s, so have your identification on you and be prepared to have fun or else! They know how to dispense with troublemakers who ruin the night for everyone. Twenty-Thirty somethings can complain about Johnny's being for fossils and cougars all they like. All ages, races, genders, sexualities are made to feel very welcome at Johnny's, but if it's too mature for you, you have Tongue & Groove, Krave, Shout!, Cosmolava, Compound, Halo, Opera, Quad and literally dozens of other places to party at in this city. I used to go to Johnny's for a laugh--it's one of the few dance clubs in Atlanta that feels unique and personable and isn't overloaded with silicone--but now that I'm in my thirties I apparently qualify as a 'cougar' and can't walk onto the dance floor without being hit on by smug, butt-grabbing frat boys. Most people who have reviewed this spot have hit the nail on the head by naming it, Cougarville. It really is a place you can enjoy a strong drink with some personable bartenders and people watch until you get up and join the crazies on the dance floor. I went in knowing to expect to see anything...Some people were dressed to the nines while a couple literally walked in with their pjs on. I thought the Dj was quite comical because their was no rhyme or reason to his song transitions. He played mostly old school songs but of different genres interrupted by the occasional hit from the early 2000's. It was bipolar on the 1's and 2's! There was a small cover fee and valet parking. People arrived early around 9:30 pm and stayed dancing all nite long. There was a psychopath or two who seemed to get beyond their drink limits but provided for more entertainment. I tried to go to Jonny's tonight with some friends, and because I had print on my shirt, I was not allowed to enter. I told the bouncer I thought that was a pretty ridiculous rule, and he charged at me and (tried to trip me and throw me on the ground, although he was unable to) and I had to leave. He very quickly escalated a situation that was initially two people talking. I was not drunk. Its amazing these people get away with this... I will never ever go back. I hope you don't either. For what I know Johnnies has been, I hope always remains. If you find older people doing the same thing the younger clubs doing offensive, stay out. And for those of you that come to make fun, the same. If you like great bands, DJ's playing a wide variety of tunes and you love to dance, this is your place. Then get charged a cover to walk in to a bar that has not a single decent beer on tap and beer that is typically two dollars a bottle is over four. I went to Johnny's Saturday night with a date. I had been to Johnny's a couple of years ago when it was bursting at the seams with 50+ patrons. The dark lounge was cheesy to me then, and men older than my father were eyeballing me to the point it was creepy. I'd define it as a "meat market" for the older generations. But last night was something shockingly different. I didn't want to go, but my date insisted, so we arrived at 10:30 p.m. There was a line outside of people waiting to get in. $5 cover. Once inside, this dark cave of a lounge was jam-packed with people. Don't misunderstand....not crowded..... I mean the firecodes were on the verge of being broken. You stood shoulder-to-shoulder with people. The crowd was a range from the very old to 20-somethings. The later it got, younger people arrived. There were well-to-do ladies in church hats seated at the bar. Cute 20-something preppy couples smooching in a dark corner. 40-something soccer moms dressed like hookers....trying WAY too hard. If you like to people watch, it's great. It took at least 20 minutes to order a drink from wait staff or the bar. We each had a vodka tonic with lime that was weak. We ordered a second round later in the night....again weak. Unless you arrive at 9 p.m., expect to never sit down while there. Rude people shoulder you aside. I actually have a bruise on my bicep where an older woman shoved past, elbowing me. My date had a guy shove him aside and knock his glass into his lip, hurting him. At one point a older man who looked like the Crypt Keeper stood about two feet away from us staring at me until finally my date suggested we move. Uh, mega-creepy. We danced twice simply because there was no room on the dancefloor. Ever. It was beyond packed with wiggling bodies. Dancing up against strangers is a bit more body contact than I like. The only positive was the valet parking. The young men were polite, opened the car door, took great care of my sportscar, and when I was ready to go STAT they wasted no time getting my car. read more

This place......This place....... Is quite awesome but you must have a open mind when you enter because it's quite interesting! For starters when you walk in, you enter a dark lit establishment with a Frank Sinatra theme. The bartenders are older than your grandma which means they know how to fix a strong stiff drink, because quite frankly they probably invented the concoction. Now I myself can appreciate a good dance party, and if that's you then guess what? What? This place plays the best jams from the "golden error" that will allow you to display your best moves, but if you can't dance or you are shy then get yo ash off the flow!! That's right flow! On the contrary there will be no nae nae , whipping, stankin leg, or any of that new school propaganda going on! A bit of twist and shout, uptown boogie, and moonwalking will definitely be your best moves to display! As most people stated if this sounds like a place you can appreciate then get there early because the line is crazy and they do hold the line to accommodate the high rollers whom will pay the dubb ($20) to get in, but me, bish I'll wait and pay the five! The clientele also stated, range from late 40's and beyond however as the night roll into the morning more 20 and 30 something frequent the venue as the next door bar Ivy dies out, but if you there for a good time then fuq it go grab you a cougar them young girls come and go!! That's what I prefer, but that's me. Oh the dance floor is small and you're more likely going to be bumping into everyone so leave the drinks on your table, which are also first come first serve, so again get there early. My only con is it is very smoky and if you can't handle menthols, Virginia Slims, and Winstons then this place may not be for you. I don't smoke, but honestly it is not unbearable as the smokers tend to stay in the back of the establishment. If I missed something then keep scrolling I'm sure some one have already covered it. Warning!! My wife and I went dancing at Johnny's Hideaway last night and we clearly had some sort of "date rape" drugged slipped into my wife's glass of wine while we were on the dance floor. We made the stupid mistake of leaving our drinks unattended while we danced - a mistake we won't make again. What ever drug was used was strong and my wife and I were sharing her glass of wine so we both felt the impact. I am truly, truly racking my brain as to why anyone would give Johnny's less than 5 stars! This is the most fun you will ever have in Atlanta- guaranteed! Johnny's is a tradition, an institution, a way of life! You don't go here for the food or to have a deep conversation...You go here to drink, let go of your ambitions, celeb watch, dance your back out and maybe eat the world's most delicious tater tots at 2am. Leave your ego at the door because just like any other worthwhile club you go to in ATL, you'll have to wait in a line, show your idea, fight for a table and be patient when you order your drinks. Cover charges range between $5 and $10 but the cheap drinks balance the cover charge out. The demographic here is SO eclectic- old/young, black/white, good-looking/ and well not so good-looking! Their dance floor is always packed (just don't forget to put your drink down before you step on) and the variety of music they play ranges from Frank Sinatra to Frankie Goes to Hollywood to Frank Ocean! DO NOT GO!!!!!! After being born and raised in atlanta my entire life, i have never been so disrespected in a bar/nightclub as I had been here. We came here for my sisters big 30 birthday and it was a disaster within the first twenty minutes of being there. Some stupid girl who obviously knew the owner or someone there had a few remarks to say then attacked my sister. I stepped to seperate them which followed by a police officer pulling me aside. After being scolded for intervening, i was spit in the face by a fulton police officer then escorted out by the staff followed by the remaining 25 individuals in party. So let me get this right, some random girl attacks my sister and then ask all of us to leave because we pull this pyscho off. Then you have a officer do that.....Rediculous.
