Thornton Road in general seemed nightmarish in terms of traffic. We ended up going about a half mile north, doing a U-turn at the next possible light, and coming back. However, then it was unclear where you should turn. We turned too early and had to detour on some road in back of several business. To make it easy on future visitor for navigation, if you are heading south on Thornton Road towards I-20, the Olive Tree is between the McDonald's and some seafood place with a large sign called Cod Tail. After you pass the McDonald's you can turn in and access the plaza where Olive Tree is located. It was NOT easy. Parking is in a shared lot for the plaza out front and was adequate. Once we actually made it inside, things were great. This restaurant reminds me a lot of Provino's, a small chain of Italian places around the north side of Atlanta. The Olive Tree is like Provino's half-Greek cousin. Some of the dishes are similar, the background music is similar, etc. The menu is split fairly evenly between Italian and Greek dishes. We ordered one each (lasagna and ghanoush). Both were good. We also split a salad. They also had a dessert case as you enter, though we did not indulge in one. They also have a full bar (which we didn't try). Prices were reasonable. If we lived closer, I could see becoming a semi-regular here. If you are in the area, it is definitely worth checking out.

While our server did the best he could and remained attentive, it was completely unacceptable that he was left to manage a group our size without any visible support from management or additional staff. No manager checked on our table, offered assistance, or ensured that things were running smoothly, which is basic hospitality -- especially for a large party celebrating a special occasion. What was most disappointing was the manager's behavior. When he was asked to comp one slice of cheesecake, his response was, "This is not my house, I just work here." That statement alone reflects a lack of ownership, professionalism, and customer care. It became even more inappropriate when he proceeded to ask one of our guests to help carry dishes to the front. Asking paying customers to perform staff duties is completely out of line and frankly disrespectful. The food itself was mediocre at best, which only added to the overall negative experience. The only bright spot was our waiter, who truly tried to hold things together despite the lack of support around him. Management sets the tone for any establishment, and based on this experience, there is a serious disconnect in customer service standards here. My fiancé and I visited this restaurant last night, and unfortunately, our experience was not only…read moredisappointing--it was extremely disrespectful and, in my experience, racially motivated. When we arrived, we were told our food would take approximately 20-30 minutes. We sat at the bar and ordered drinks while we waited. After about 50 minutes, I asked about our food. The young lady went to check and came back saying it would be another 10-15 minutes. I asked again later for an update, and eventually our food came out. The pizza was cold, the bottom of the calzone/stromboli was burnt, and our salad was missing. At that point, I asked to speak with the manager. Instead of trying to resolve the situation, the manager came out with what I felt was an extremely rude and dismissive attitude and basically told us that everyone had been waiting over an hour, so there was nothing she could do. Things escalated because of the way we were treated. I left the restaurant, and my fiancé remained behind because he was still trying to pay for what we had ordered. He was repeatedly told to leave. He explained that he was trying to pay, but they continued telling him to leave and said they would take care of it. We eventually left. The restaurant later contacted the police. The police spoke with us about what happened and told us that our stories matched and that there would be no criminal charges filed. We were, however, told that the restaurant did not want us to return. What makes this experience even more upsetting is that we felt we were treated differently because of our race. Nobody should have to walk into a restaurant, spend their money, wait an unreasonable amount of time for cold and burnt food, and then be treated with disrespect when they ask for the problem to be addressed. There were multiple opportunities for management to simply apologize, correct the food, and treat us with basic respect. Instead, the situation was handled in a way that left us feeling humiliated and unwelcome. I am sharing this review because customers deserve to know what happened to us. Poor service is one thing. Being made to feel discriminated against and unwelcome because of the color of your skin is something completely different.
