I have had a couple of pairs of pants shortened, which they did well, so I brought them my favorite jeans that had a broken zipper. Now they are as good as new. They do excellent work for very reasonable prices. The only reason I can't give them 5 stars is that they smoke in the shop. A lot. So you have to wash your clothes after you pick them up. I dropped my pants off a week and a half ago to have them taken in at the thigh and tapered down to the ankle, he said come back in a week. So I did, I get there and he hasn't even touched them, he says " come back tomorrow". I came back the next day and he still hadn't touched them. I came back and he said the same thing. Went here bc of reviews and it was horrible!!!! 1) it reeked of smoke. 2) i brought my bridesmaid dress there to get altered. And he did a terrible job. He told me it was going to be 100. Ridiculously expensive for average work. I'd have been shocked at the cost for even the best seamstress to do the work but this is just OK. BEWARE SORORITY GIRLS! DONT TRUST THIS MAN WITH YOUR FORMAL DRESS!!! My roommate went a week before her event to get a dress hemmed an INCH!!! This guy charged her $38 dollars and wrote her a card that said come back on Thursday. When she went back on Thursday, he turned her away and said that the dress wouldn't be ready until tomorrow and that she got that day mixed up. (even though he gave her a card with THURSDAY) written on it. When she picked up the dress on Friday, he handed it to her in a bag and didn't ask her to try it on. My roommate doesn't get things hemmed often so she didn't know that normally you try things on when you get them hemmed. Once she came home she tried on the dress and realized that ABSOLUTELY NOTHING HAD BEEN DONE TO IT. All of us girls gathered to inspect the dress, and it looked exactly the same. There were still inches of fabric on the floor with her heels on. The dress looks untouched and her event is tomorrow. Also, the dress REAKS of cigarette smoke. Do not use John's Custom Tailoring under any circumstances. I brought my new suit to him for tailoring and he completely destroyed it. I needed it brought in slightly and he not only botched the fit but and seaming but, when I took it the original shop I purchased it from they informed me that it was beyond repair due to the amount of fabric he cut away and that the quality of the work was the worst they had ever seen. When I went back to the shop to ask for a refund on the work he refused to admit to his mistakes and would not give me back the value of the work he did on the suit. I would give him less than one star but it is the lowest I can go. read more

The workmanship is reliably good--I've gone a few times now--but the prices are really high compared to my previous experiences with tailors. I would go again for a tough job, but I've been looking for a less expensive alternative for easy jobs like hemming pant lines. read more

My wife and I have had used John's services several times over the last 10 years. We have loyal customers until now. I dropped off a suit to be altered for a wedding. We told him the date we needed it by and it was agreed upon. My wife went to pick up the suit and he had closed shop for a few hours. A co-worker of hers went later to pick up the item only to be told it was not ready on the date we had agreed upon. The professional way would have been to place a phone call to tell us it was not ready. My wife called the following day, the day of the wedding and explained we needed that morning. By the time it was finished there was no time to try it on and alter it if needed. I will never aging use his services. read more
